but your sucking of a flat bottom most of the bedrock your sucking off is uneven ground can ya do it again with a load of flat rocks and place the nug between them. though myself i think it will still work.
@VoGusProspecting
@VoGusProspecting 3 жыл бұрын
Makes no difference to what we are talking about. We are talking if the pump looses gold that has been sucked up, not if it cleans the bottom 100%. These are two different questions. The pump will spotlessly clean the bottom if you dedicate the time to preparing the bedrock. And it will hold onto that gold once its in that tube over 6ft.

I see your point. I see this as vacuum vs distance. The only real difference an uneven surface could make is how far up the pump the gold would reach before the vacuum would level back to zero, due to the added area of flow.
@VoGusProspecting

Exactly, it'll have a maximum pulling distance and that will effect its overall distance.
@justpanit9872

Iv actually wondered this myself. If it holds that many grams for 6 feet an with only water, also no other objects in with it to slow it down an hold it inside for longer, So that gold has maximum fall rate an still made the distance. I must say Chris iv never watched anyone play gold long jump before. Cool vid mate 👌

I have used and made lots of what you call yabbie pumps. I call them gold suckers. I built and sold over 4000 of them. My favorites are the 2" and 3" super gold suckers. They are a yabbie pump, but there is a 45 degree elbow on the end, and a short 6" nozzle. After the suction stroke, a quick twist of the barrel point the nozzle up, and everything stays inside the barrel until you point the nozzle down. What I like about the super gold suckers is that after testing an area, I can set up a sluice and then use the super gold sucker to directly feed the sluice instead of filling buckets. I have a classifier set at the head of the sluice. Lots of times I would use the 3". You might ask why a 3". Because every rock that it will suck up, I don't have to move by hand.

That's impressive results, but the video I commented on you were moving material from one side of your body all the way to the other side (like 2:56) and _nowhere_ near as fast as this (I suspect because you were pretty worn out by that point, not fresh and at home, in controlled conditions), at least a half litre of water had discharged from the nozzle by the point it went in. Also one thing you have to take into consideration here is that using a giant nugget will NOT assist in testing it. The fine gold you deal with mostly does not have the same mass as that giant nugget - meaning the upstroke on that would impart far more inertia into it especially given it's immediacy to the point of suction, giving it more 'hang time' within the barrel before gravity takes over and does what gravity does. You don't know, you _might_ have a picker, or a half dozen 20 mesh or ten 40 mesh's coming up in the last ml of water you're sucking in that barely made it up. And for 20c for a PVC cap end with a 1 inch hole drilled in it (that also significantly improves your suction and allows multiple sized nozzles to get into crevices) to allow you to have a suck side and drop side by rotating the pump is it worth losing even a speck? How many specks over a lifetime, I wonder? It may be nothing, really, all up. I may just be paranoid, the same reason I run a sluice on my sluice so I can prospect while I prospect! But either way I'll get my pump out and throw some mg's of fines up it and post the result on the coming weekend - unfortunately I'll have to borrow your dog for it to be an authentic test. >_>

@piccolonijel 3 жыл бұрын
Fair examination. I was thinking very similarly that if you loose water, potentially you loose gold. Then we could say also that if you suck some clean water while raising up the pump, as last movement, you can increase your chances of not loosin gold
@procrastinator1727
@procrastinator1727 3 жыл бұрын
I think it's inevitable that you'll lose some gold during the process which is why it's important to try and position the pan not too far from the extraction point, and also try and limit spillage into the same area so that you improve chances of sucking anything lost back up in successive attempts. It's not as if it all has to be captured in the one attempt, just gotta be thorough. Though I agree using a capped end does offer additional protection and benefits of being able to use nozzles... however in many circumstances it's just far more efficient to clean a bigger area much quicker without any attachments, and then use cap/nozzle to get into smaller cracks/crevices at the very bottom
@whynotdean8966
@whynotdean8966 3 жыл бұрын
So glad you did this test. It's something that's also been worrying me :) Obviously you're gonna lose some miniscule amount whenever water leaves the tube before it's over the pan. Nothing is ever 100% efficient. But this is closer than I expected!

Pumps do lose gold. I’ve seen a nice picker fall out onto clear bedrock from mine luckily I found it again. My theory is when it sucks up gravel the gold is at the bottom so it’s the last thing into the pump and the first to fall out Think the losses are minimal though

The yabby pump is the weapon. It gets gold off the bottom, you can suck out the gravels in gaps between boulders which can help in removing hard packed gravels to allow the boulders to be moved. If you dont have a yabby pump, get one.
@petermoncrieff2578
@petermoncrieff2578 3 жыл бұрын
A yabbie pump is a hand dredge and if you have the experience, practice and have the right motion from suction to pan like Chris has then losses are very minimal just like any high banker, river sluice or a small dredge you are always going to loose a percentage of gold but how much is up to your experience and consistency. Good demonstration Chris 👍

More a matter of time than distance. Although certainly there is a correlation with distance. Very nice shot of it coming out. I am lucky to find 3 grams in a year, not happening in one piece. This debate is like the dream mat one, super dependant on the actual material and how the miner moves. Basically if your slow with that pump, yes you loose gold. If your quick no worries ❤ I rammble. Cheers guys 🍾

@rohantregear3921
@rohantregear3921 3 жыл бұрын
I've thought about this myself and I reckon it's all about momentum. The gold, having a higher density, is more likely to keep moving towards the top of the tube due to the suction force before gravity overcomes that momentum. So it's actually more likely that lighter material will be lost out the end.

Another thing to consider is that if the pan or bucket that he's transferring into is in the area that he is cleaning up with the yabbie pump then all he needs to do is work from the outside in and he'll suck up anything that might have dropped out as he comes closer to the bucket.
