If you liked it please click on the Thumbs up icon under the video.
As you start solving more difficult puzzles being able to spot a 3X3 is essential. if you spot a 3X3 in a row, block or column, you can safely eliminate other small similar numbers in that particular row, block or column which are part of the 3X3. . Watch for this in difficult puzzles.
Ooops Did you notice that I missed a ramification at 7.54 of a 6 which could go in Block #3
NEW you can now go to my web site and see an INDEX OF VIDEOS under strategy headings. Click on the number and it will take you to the video of interest. www.sudokuguy.com
This is important for those who speak another language.
You can turn on captions and have them automatically translated into the language of your choice.
At the bottom of each video click on the cc in a little square then click on the settings gear next to the cc on the right. Here you are able to select the language of your choice so you can read the captions at the bottom of the video in your chosen language.

Robin sir, Your method of explaining is fantastic. I am 61, a medical doctor, and was always at my wit’s end while solving the puzzles till about a month ago. Then I came across you channel on KZbin and I believe that there has been a tremendous improvement in my ability to solve the puzzles with varying degrees of difficulties. I take out time to see your tutorials in the limited time that I get, but they are really amazing. God bless you.

First off thanks for the videos as i'm recently getting into doing these Sudoku puzzles and they're really enjoyable and your videos are really helping me getting some techniques to do them. I was wondering if you, or anybody else could help me explain something in more detail so that i can understand it. At about 20:00 (20 minutes in) you have a 3x3 on box 1 and 7. The missing numbers are 4,8,9. You figure out that the 8 is on box 1, but then how do you figure out which cell the real number 9 is in? as you have two cells that are possible 9s. Thank you for your videos, they're great! :).

@@SudokuGuy Cheers for the answer! I figured the most i could of done with that situation is that i could of gotten a 4-9 matching pair. I thought that you used some super technique that i didn't know about. I'm glad that the case is different and that i was on the right track. Much love from Sweden! :).

I love this soduko guy. Funny and explains very well. Now my question is why not make an app for soduko. I fly a lot and I look forward to solve soduko on a plane from United magazine. It was difficult to put the little numbers while solving when you have a small space. That is why an app would be better.

... When you completed the first column: I agree that the 8 goes in the 2nd cell, I thought the bottom 2 cells of the first column would become a 49 matching pair at that point as I couldn't see anything that automatically confirmed which would be the 9 or the 4. Is this a mistake or can you explain if there is a rule I have missed? Many Thanks :)
@SudokuGuy
@SudokuGuy 8 жыл бұрын
+Wilma Millar Hi Wilma. You are right. I jumped ahead instead of putting in a 49 matching pair at the bottom of column 1. My apologies as I missed a step. If you look at block 9 you will see that by using LCR a 4 will go in cell 7 column 8, thus I jumped ahead and put the 9.in cell 8 column 1, because the 4 goes in cell 9 column 1. No you didn;t miss a new technqiue, I just jumped ahead. Sorry.

I am a beginner and still working on easy to moderate puzzles. I am having trouble with matching pairs. I want to put a third number there, like 964, 964, and 9... I want to put the 9 in both other spots that you may claim is a "matching pair". Can you explain matching pairs differently?
@SudokuGuy
@SudokuGuy 3 жыл бұрын
Good question a 3X3 is 3 n small numbers which can only go in 3 cells. We don't initially know which number will go in which cell, but usually once you get one number you get the others. re matching pairs .... only 2 little numbers can go in 2 cells e.g. 36/36 No other little numbers can go in those cells at any time. Look at lessons 3,8,11,14. Also go to my web site sudokuguy.com and scroll down to the index of techniques and tricks. You will find many more example of tutorials which cover matching pairs. One of the great features of a matching pair is that if you solve 1 number then you know the other number in the other cell. All the best You can do it!!!

11:09 8's can go in the top centre block in either the central square or the right bottom cell as two little eights. But you'll probably come across it again later. 11:48 3's running across the bottom row blocks; because the centre bottom row is already full a three has to go in either of the top two row cells. Which means that a 3 can only go in the bottom left corner cell of the bottom right block. Immediately after the 3's because a four can go 4's in the top right block two central row cells the ramification of that is a 4 has to go in the top right block bottom centre cell. I think your teaching method must be working: I am starting to talk just like you. Lol

10:33 Dealing with "6's". You can put in "6" in bottom line (middle cell) left and right cells, as you have top line ruled out by the "6" in middle right block, and the entire dead centre column has a "6" in it already. And you would have to remove the "6" from the pair in bottom line of block on left hand side (in middle, vertically). That would place "5" in bottom row, left column, centre left block. Therefore, "5" being used, top cell becomes "7". Left Column, middle cell becomes "7". And in your next move about "7's", that eliminates "7" from middle block, top centre cell (where you have little "37") , leaving "7" to go in dead centre cell of that block. Oops. Big Oops.

In systematic horizontal/vertical set of blocks scanning "There is only one N , leave it" is a misleading guideline alone, it is not a sufficient reason for there not being new numbers to be spotted, it gives rise to too many missed opportunities, as you could use 'cross technique' (or perhaps some others) to eliminate cells, and establish new final numbers or mere candidates, in some rare cases even when there are no Ns. I am surprised that you don't apply 'cross technique' here as in other lectures (several double candidates and at least one final number are missed here). Or perhaps you just wanted move along faster to the core teaching of the video, or for a similar reason. When you say "Too much information" in 10:30 on, strictly speaking should not the correct expression be "Not enough information": the more semantical information we gain, the more impossible or uncertain cases, here cells, are being ruled out, that is, by narrowing down our search space of cells, our uncertainty decreases, hence more informed we become. Thank you for the videos (and sorry about the rant but "There is only one N , leave it" is not a good advice).
