One of my fans Dean Kramersh sent me this puzzle.and asked me to make it a tutorial. It is a good example of how solving one number can lead to many other numbers being solved.
It appears easy to begin with but becomes much harder later.
When you have the habit of looking for ramifications solving will work out much better for you.
3.20 The cleaver pattern see lesson 20
8.47 Could have taken a different path here and complete column 7, but fixed later.
13.53 Could have put 2 small 9's in bl 2 r 2.

Dear Sudoku Guy, first of all thank you for investing your time doing these tutorials which are helping a lot of us. Maybe you can clarify one of your "moves". At minute 11:00 you start working on the "3's". On the bottom centre square when you figure that the 3 goes on line 8, column 4, you also assume that the 9 goes on the cell above altough 9 can fit in 2 cells and it's not a matching pair with the 3. Hopefully you can let us know your thoughts on that. Thank you.

Noted Hello Pedro. Thank you for your comment. I must apologise that I knew it would be a 9 (see later) I had done the puzzle before filminging and jumped ahead, which is a no no.You are the first to notify me of this and I thank you for it.

Here is a clue. With the matching paire (5-8) in C2L7 and L8, a 8 is certain in C1L3. 2, 7 and 8 are now missing in C1 (L4, L6 and L9). A 7 is certain in C1L6 (8 in C4L6 and C5L6 and 2 in C7L6). With the 3 in C3L6 a 3 is certain in C2L6. The only little numbers that fit C4L7 are 8 and 9 (1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7 in L6 and 5 in C4L4). 1, 6 and 8 are now missing in L6 (C3, C4 and C5). The 1 in C4L9 and the 6 in C4L3 make the 8 certain in C4L6 and the 9 is now certain in C4L7.

At 11:49, when you wrote o 9 in Column 4/Row 7, couldn't it have also been an 8?

Yes you are right, however if you look further you will see that an 8 appears above due to trioplet. and also if you look at the results of the matching pair 5/8. Hope this helps.

Goog question. if using horizontal rows 2 of the blocks must have similar number in 2 rows. In the case of vertical blocks 2 columns must have the same number in 2 blocks. Hmmm hello , you lost me at 11. 20 minutes when you found candidate 3 in box 7. You had a potential 9 candidate, but even though the three was discounted it looked to me as though at that point that there could be an 8 candidate in box 7, row 7 column 4? Though i did appreciate the Unique rectangle explanation as i did not know what this was called before

@@SudokuGuy I believe that at 11:25 cell r7c4 was only an accidental 3,9 pair, coming from the vert 3's and hor 9's. In reality this cell could contain 3,8,9, with 8,9 remaining after the 3 is filled in r8c4. Hence the given solution is wrong! As luck has it, all works out fine, because you CAN do: r6c2 = 3 r6c1 = 7 (single option) r6c4 = 8 (single option) r7c4 = 9 (single option, there it is) And r3c1 = 8
