Hi Robin, Greetings from Finland ! :) I am wondering in this lesson, how on earth did you find out (in videos time 24:01) that in the upper left block (in the 1st column and 2nd row) the value of the triplet was 4 and not 1 OR 3 ? Number 4 was a candidate also in two other cells in that block. Was it a "civilized guess" OR is there a Logican explanation för that ? Thank You anyway for your professional lessons. I have watched them all.

Good question! Ari, This is controversial in the world of sudoku. In lesson 24 and 25 the logic goes "if not this then it must be that" In this case the logic goes " if not his this then it must be that or that". This is due to the triplet.I If you use 4 in cell 2 of the block 1 then you have 2 4 s in r 4. If you use the 4 in c 5 of bl 1 you finish up with 2 9s in row 7. I have found that from experience the cell which has 3 small numbers and 4 is common to all cells, it enables other cells to be solved such that the puzzle can be solved

It is a joy to find a puzzle that can be solved using BUG+1. Without knowing this shortcut, I found it usually requires an XY-Chain, which is a more advanced strategy, in order to make any more progress. Thanks for sharing this puzzle solve and explaining it so well SudokuGuy!

First let me say I have watched a number of your videos and like how you explain your techniques...but I have a question for you. So with the bug +1: do the three squares have to be in the same 3x3 block or could they be in the same rank or column...and do you always choose the common number in the three squares that is in the square with three numbers in it? On the Bug + 1, there are 3 empty cells in the upper left block all containing some combination of 1,3, and 4. A 4 was in all three so you put the 4 in the cell with three candidates. Now let's say the 3rd cell in the top row already had a number in it. If you look across row 2 the second to last cell also has 3&4 as the only candidates. Would your theory have worked using the triplets in the row, or does it only work for triplets within a block? Thanks Robin, I really enjoy your videos.

I would like to know if the there is a proof for the Bug+1 trick, while it is very handy to know it. Another concern is the avoidance of a deadly pattern, aka danger, danger. The assumption, that there is only one solution is misused, imho, because if another choice would have led to another solution, you would have proved the Sudoku to be flawed. By this reasoning, you would be able to eliminate the other solution with the same right.

You never explained why you selected the 4 in the cell with 3 variables. In other words why did you pick out the 4 rather than the 1 or 3?

lol You were doing TMB on the bottom. You did the 2's then just skipped right to LCR on the left side.

I just found my first puzzle out of 100 that has the B.U.G. +1 pattern and I realized I had not ever seen the pattern explained...I thought I had see all of your videos, but Murphy's Law showed its ugly head.
