The debate among sudoku players is "should you use a procedure or not". I suggest that a procedure is good for beginners.. If on the way of solving you see something which you can be solved then go ahead and then come back to a procedure . O course it is your choice.
In this puzzle you may wish to copy it down first and try it yourself, then watch me solve it.
There are many paths to take and in this puzzle. I miss some important ramifications and as a result finish up taking a different path to solve.
Below are some places which I missed re ramifications. Did you notice them?
12.22 missed an 8
14.29 missed the 9's
16.24 missed 3 's in vertical blocks
18.31 missed a 4 in r 7 c9
20.02 missed ram in r 6
26.50 missed 2/5 mp in r 5
Although many ramifications were missed, by taking a different path the puzzle was still solved.
20.20 Unique rectangle (danger Danger)

Another good one Robin. I tend to sweep through the rows and columns with TMB and LCR, followed by Cross-meet, just as you taught. I find it can be done quite quickly. Then I start looking for 'other things'. Thanks for clarifying the ambiguity rule. Take care.

Hi Robin - I am your fan and started doing sudoku watching your tutorials. I found the going tougher when there are 25 or lesser numbers in the beginning of the puzzle. Can you please release tutorials for such puzzles. If you have already done those puzzles please forgive my ignorance and be kind enough to mention the tutorial numbers.

I have tried to use Snyder Notation rules to maximum extent in solving. And once I have completed that, in and advanced puzzle, I am not sure the next technique to apply. At 8:57, you added the other 3,8 in a different block. Is it still Snyder Notation at that point? And then you placed 2,3,8 in the two cells. At this point, you are beyond Snyder Notation, right? What would you say generally is the next step after your Snyder Notation is complete?

By the time you get to tutorial 93 you have to use a different method.. If you look at tutorial 79 and above you will see a different method being used. It's called "locked litlle numbers" Hope this helps. Robin

In tutorial no.93 in column no 6 row no 7 you had three small numbers, 4, 5 and 9 but you selected 9 when you could have chosen 4 or 5. The reason you gave was not audible. Can you please clarify

If you continue watching you will hear me say we have to put a 9 there to stop the puzzle having 2 answers. It is called the unique rectangle or as I call it the danger danger. A puzzle cannot have 2 answers. Hope this helps.

@SudokuGuy

My suggestion is to look at this part of the puzzle again. By putting in the 9 it saved the 45 45 45 45 possible danger danger from happening Robin

19.45 Why does the 4, 5, 9 combination has to be 9?
@SudokuGuy

Good question the same reason as the 2 had to b e put in earlier. The 9 must be there to stop a Danger Danger situation where there could b e 2 answers. A sudoku puzzle must never have 2 answers

Is it better to make a procedure?
@SudokuGuy
@SudokuGuy 2 жыл бұрын
Good question . Essential for learners for the first part of solving further on in the puzzle if it is difficult you then have to look around more.. Look at my recent videos and you will see the to begin with I have a procedure. later when I look for e.g. triplets then I could be looking all over the puzzle. Robin
@AnonimityAssured
@AnonimityAssured 2 жыл бұрын
I think a procedure would greatly slow down the solving of this grid, which is pretty easy for the first 30-odd steps, just by following the numbers. The crunch point presents two URs, although one of them is a dead end (28 = row 2 column 8): 28, 33, 39, 35, 31, 11, 25, 37, 79, 77, 99, 17, 93, 85, 24, 15, 27, 29, 18, 49, 69, 52, 75, 81, 73, 86, 58, 68, 53, 48, 45, 64, 41, 95 (UR, boxes 2 and 8)*, 71, 92, 76, 74, … * A UR in boxes 4 and 7 yields R6C7, but then nothing else. Without a UR: 92 instead of 95 (colours on 5s from this cell), 95, 46, 34, 36, …

As you know Julian, I gain most enjoyment of sudoku when beginning by just letting the numbers 'hit my eye' (i.e. definitely no system to start the grid). I'm not saying playing without a system is more efficient, but (and here this might be based on personality) a random start feels good. I think it's "horses for courses".
@AnonimityAssured
@AnonimityAssured 2 жыл бұрын
@@zen_art_of_guardian_sudoku Yes, I think some people need some sort of procedural approach in order to be able to cope with the flow of incoming information without becoming overwhelmed. But such an approach is inherently inefficient and slow in comparison to simple number following (see some 5s, follow the 5s, etc.). Indeed, it's not difficult to devise a grid that strongly penalizes counting and cycling, which are the two main features of typical solving procedures.
