Linda Gray is incredibly underrated as an actress. The character is probably one of the most complex women on TV in the last 40 years. Loving wife, psychologically damaged, alcoholic, businesswoman - sometimes all four at the same time. Even when the writing wasn’t that good - she was still a standout.

I don't think this was acting. That was genuine. This was filmed in December, three weeks after Larry died. These emotions are raw and real. When she knelt and touched the casket, it was not scripted. That, too, was a genuine reaction of Linda saying goodbye. It was one of the greatest moments in television history. It's not often you say goodbye to a dear friend in front of 3 million viewers.

"Will you have dinner with me?" The simplicity of that line and the meaning behind it is so powerful. He didn't ask her to marry him... He was being a gentleman and asking her for a date to start anew. This scene was the single most powerful scene in the Dallas reboot. It still brings me to tears even now at the age of 52. Larry Hagman entertained me all of my early life. JR Ewing was my favorite character of all time on television.

Beautiful, heart felt scene. Linda Gray is amazing. J.R did go off to Vietnam after university. I remember a scene, with Jock, where this was mentioned. If you go back to the original Dallas, and the scenes between Sue Ellen and J.R is some of the best acting, not only on TV but anywhere. The two were just an amazing force.

Saw Linda and Patrick last evening March 23, 2017 at the Dallas Retrospective at Winspear Opera House in Dallas, Texas. They ran this clip and it was very moving watching it along with the actress herself. It again brought tears to the entire house. She said it was one of the most difficult scenes in her career. The best part about that new Dallas was that Larry Hagman got to pass away an old man doing exactly what he loved, playing the character that was the biggest part of his life. I rememver when that episode aired. I grew up watching Dallas from 1978-1991 as well as Knott's Landing. The the Dallas reboot 2012-2015. John Ross was consumed by his own pain, and probably regret as well. It is not that he wouldn't comfort his mama, he couldn't. In that moment, he's still in shock over the loss of his father and also upon hearing the words in the letter to his mother and seeing her pain and the amount of love she really did have for his dad, AND the love his dad had for his mother, well that's just A LOT to take in. He's kind of frozen in a state of surrealness.

I had never heard that about Larry. I read that later on Linda asked to direct one of the episodes and the powers that be wanted to fire her but Larry stood up for her and told them if she left, then he was gone too. Well we all know what happened lol. She stayed....now way back then could Dallas survive without J R. I noticed the directing credits in a lot of the 80s Dallas. Linda did get to direct some along with Larry, Patrick and Steve Kanaly. Great touching scene.

Such a bitter sweet moment, bitter because the emotions are very much real, no one expected Larry to die so sudden. Linda Gray and Larry Hagman made the greatest on screen couple as far as I am concerned, because both were in love very much with the other however they are also very much human therefore yes they cheated on each other, JR wronged her a million times over, still they did love each other and this show showed that JR knew he messed up all those years ago with Sue Ellen and he tried for a second chance. I'm thinking that they planned on having JR and Sue Ellen get married again this time as the power couple they were meant to be

Such a brilliant scene, for both the actress and the character. Sue-Ellen is dealing with the fact that despite everything JR did to her, and he treated her awfully, she still loved him, and always will. Processing the fact that she's lost the love of her life, a man who likely drove her to drink in the first place but also drove her, through his treatment, to become the woman she is today. I'm not surprised she fell off the wagon. The actress, Linda Gray, is dealing with the rather sudden loss of one of her best friends. Those tears are real. Perfect scene.

You know what was so ironic was that when she started out, Larry Hagman didn't think she was any good and he wanted her fired. She really gave her all in terms of playing Sue Ellen and would even Direct Episodes. She even went to England while doing The Graduate as Mrs. Robinson, and she presented The UK Soap Opera Eastenders with an Award which is the British Equivalent of a Daytime Emmy.
