In this three part video I will show you how to recover your cars headliner with suede. I am doing this on an E90 BMW because the headliner was starting to fall apart and it needed a new custom look. You can use this same step by step process on any car with any headliner material.

Awesome video, Subbed. And to anyone doing this make sure you get really sharp scissors and really sharp razors. Also, don't just get spray adhesive, get contact adhesive/cement aswel. There's going to be areas where you're going to have a really hard time getting at with just adhesive. And just a little more advice.1. Get another person to help you (you're really going to need it) it'll help like you wouldn't believe. 2. Preparation is key. Get a pen and paper and write down everything you'll need. Plan what, when, and how you're going to do this especially when wrapping the headliner. Don't rush! 3. I love my Bimmer but damn it's a bitch how they designed the fitment of things lol!. 4. If you're like me and it's your first time doing a headliner and it happens to be a Bimmer..... Then cut all your plans for the weekend.

Nice vid...you got the bases covered. Im not having so much luck with the same fabric-synergy suede. Using the same adhesive sprayed on, I get soak thru the fabric in multiple spots, plus foam separation, while alcantara I've used for door cards, with no issues at all. Wondering if I really have the same fabric as you or a knock-off.

Curious what using steam does? Does it help the fabric stretch? I'm trying to do the same job on my E39 and the grab handle wells are my Achilles heel on this job because of how deep they are. I'm using dinamica, which is similar to suede and alcantara, and has very little (if any) stretch. Would using a steam gun help me out here?

@Theluckyneedle

You shouldn't have to dilute the glue at all. Sometimes if the glue has gotten old and a little to thick I have used acetone to thin the glue.

How much headliner material did you buy (?x?)
@williamsantiago7303
@williamsantiago7303 4 жыл бұрын
Awesome video friend, very informative. I have a 2011 Ford f250 pick up truck and I took the headliner out. It's not sagging because the material is a fabric that doesn't have a foam back to it. To me the fabric looks like it was made into the liner board itself. Someone asked me if it came out of a Toyota because they said that Toyota's use a headliner like the one in my truck. I don't want to use a foam back material because when they get old they put out alot of dust. Like I said the fabric on my liner is like molded together with the backing. I had plans to clean it and then glue on another material to the one that's on there already. What material and glue would you suggest? Did the headliner in your video have a material with a foam backing on it or is it like mine where the fabric is not foam backed and looks like it's molded to the backing? If you touch my head liner your finger won't sink in like it would with a foamed backed fabric, mine is fabric but you can't push your finger in it because it doesn't have foam and I need a material that will stick to the old material. Sorry for such a LONG question and comment. Thumbs up on your video bud, take care.
@Theluckyneedle
@Theluckyneedle 4 жыл бұрын
In the video I use a foam backed suede. Because your headliner does not use foam backed material you are free to use any material you like. Just glue it straight to the old material.

Why not using Alcantara? And which is better Suede or Alcantara? Thanks bro good video!
@Theluckyneedle
@Theluckyneedle 4 жыл бұрын
Alcantara cost around $100 per yard and I not that easy to get theses days. If this were a higher end car I would have used a more expensive suede but for this job synergy suede works great and is affordable.

Are you using real suede or faux? All I can find is faux suede in the Albright store.
@Theluckyneedle
@Theluckyneedle 4 жыл бұрын
You would never want to use real suede for automotive uses. Real suede is far to delicate and will fade quickly in the sun. All suede you see in cars is synthetic suede.
