The lyrics "fly like a jet stream high above the whole scene, loves me like I'm brand new" is so perfect because Joe has never given any thought or care about any of the drama or gossip, etc. He's just completely uninterested in any of it. He's above all that and loves her for who she is.

Reputation is such a romantic album in a way...at least for me. I love this song!
@janos_hi2 жыл бұрын
It definitely is! People always say it is her "anger album" but in reality it only has like what - 3 or 4 songs about her reputation at that time. Most songs just show her love to Joe and how he made her feel good throughout this very bad part of her life because he just doesn't care about all the drama. "My reputation's never been worse so you must like me for me".

3:43 to 4:35- you literally just described one of her songs called "peace" from folklore. Like I am not even kidding how accurate that explanation was.

She has a song before called New Romantics -" i could build a castle out of all the bricks they threw at me.." And thats the castle she's talking here cuz she can't handle anymore the haters throwing at her this time and that castle crumbled.. You need to listen her song New Romantics.

This is my favourite TS song. I will never forget listening to it the first time, when all of the drama was still pretty fresh, and after her long hiatus. The line "Nobody's heard from me for months, I'm doing better than I ever was" still chokes me up. Also, one of my favourite reference to earlier songs: Love story: "Romeo, take me somewhere we can be alone. I'll be waiting, all there's left to do is run.... Romeo. save me.... It's a love story, baby, just say 'yes'." CIWYW: "Slowly I said 'You don't need to save me, But would you run away with me?' Yes."

Watching her reputation tour is the best way to really understand the meaning of the songs in my opinion. Thats when the songs really came alive to me. But this is on of my fav songs on rep, the opening lines are the best! The song defo grew on me after the first listen.
@dericpaloso95603 жыл бұрын
The bridge here that says - You don't have to save me but would you run away with me?.. Is a reflection of her famous song Love Story which have a line - Romeo save me.. She thinks now that that Romeo is Joe but instead of saving her, she want him to run away with her..

"peace" would be a great song to react to next because it has a similar theme to Call It What You Want. It goes more in depth of about her relationship with Joe and describes her juggling between trying to have a normal private life/ relationship and being a superstar.

I know my comment is two years late, but I just wanted to say that I felt the same way about this song. Didn't think it was so memorable... It's grown over the last few years to be one of my favourite from her. The rhythm is so driving and it just gets stuck in my heart. That simplicity of finding a shelter in a storm. But it isn't a lifeline, it's an entire new adventure. It ties in so well for me now with a song like Peace from Folklore. It's just so sincere. Even if the relationship didn't ultimately work, I think both Taylor and Joe can hold onto these songs as a reminder that they did have something beautiful.

My #5 fave song in her catalog. This song basically summarizes the entire Reputation album. This also goes in a tetrad of songs: call it what you want, evermore, renegade, long story short. Yes to watching Miss Americana which helps understand a bit more.

I remember when I heard it for the first time. I wasn't impressed much but the song has really grown on me since then. I think I am usually more drawn to songs that have more production value. Call it what you want is more laid-back and peaceful. What changed my attitude towards this song was to find out the lyrical parallels to her other songs.

The line "You don't need to save me but would you run away with me, ...yes" is a callback to one of Taylor's old classic song Love Story: "Romeo, save me, they try to tell me how to feel" and "Baby just say yes!" LWYMMD i think was just for a comeback gimmick. Taylor released this song as the last single just before DELICATE (there's a MV so you might want to check it out) so I think this song is her true feeling or at least establishing where she's emotionally at now.
@edpotter11703 жыл бұрын
i also feel like the reason why Taylor is so vocal about Joe in this album is not only because she's serious about Joe, but also in a way, to lowkey warn the media not to call Joe as "another Taylor's man".
@noriereckcxzs1033 жыл бұрын
"All the liars are calling me one" i think shes reffering to the '' #taylorisoverparty'' where she dissappear until her comeback album REPUTATION

I actually think that this song is conected with All Too Well (10 minute version). Back on 2012 she wrote "and I was thinking all the way down, anytime now he's gonna say it's love, you never called It what It was". In 2017 with a different relationship she said "call It what you want" as she doesn't care how their relationship is lebeled, she only cares about what they feel. There are some parallels with Love Story too. I just think she's amazing and she wrote the most beautiful songs about Joe

@@Violet316 oooh I know that lol I just mean that as in Daylight she says " I once belived love would be burning red, but it's golden, like Daylight" I think she makes a conection between both relationships and in this song she doesn't care anymore how they are called
