Sugar Ray Leonard wanted to be like Muhammed Ali, Muhammad Ali wanted to be like Sugar Ray Robinson, Sugar Ray Robinson wanted to be like Joe Louis, Joe Louis wanted to be like Jack Johnson and so on... we all have inspirations, don't let that stop you from trying to imitate anyone you admire or look up to! Because the greatest had someone to look up to as well.

Ali and Sugar Ray brought so much more to boxing than just pummeling your opponent. They had style, charisma, but also such nobility that they make you smile when you see them fight. Many don’t like him but Ray is my favorite boxer. Such an entertaining boxer to watch, especially with his speed. That’s why I prefer Welterweight over Heavyweight. Leonard won because he got Duran to fight soon after their first fight (which was smart). Duran was fat from partying after his big win, and had to dehydrated to much to make weight. Duran s body wasnt functioning, shut down, then the humiliation made Duran quit. (Some say he didnt say 'no mas', the commentator made that up) leonard didnt want third matchup against Duran. I think that tells us something.

I’m with you, sir. I wasn’t around early enough to see this generation, and stayed watching things like Bowe-Holyfield as my first experience with my father, but I’ll always remember my father associating Duran with the ‘no mas’ episode, which he told me about when I was too young to even understand it. He died when I was still in high school but I’ve is also gone about 21 years now, as well. It’s become normal for me and has been as long as I can remember now, but it’s amazing when you stop and think, “what if he was still around? What if he was around seven years ago for this or that….”

It cant be done, hes a one off doing wat he done in a one off era vs the calibre of fighters back then. Boxings a pantomime gravy train now, its a pampered bitch boy era now, MMA is King Of The Jungle & its only a matter of time before amateur boxing becomes a feeder sport for it while pro boxing continues to slide toward becoming this eras Saturday afternoon pro wrestling.

what sugar ray says about respecting duran as a fighter but not as a man is sort of how i look at him in his treatment of marvin hagler, i don't respect how he picked and chose the circumstances of that fight, he was a great fighter and i admire him but his treatment of hagler is more offensive than duran's "no mas"!

They fought at super middleweight actually. LaLonde was a LightHeavyWeight, but Leonard forced the promoters to have the fight at the lighter division, thus leaving LaLonde extra weight drained, which negatively affects strength and stamina. Leonard knew what he was doing. Very Strategically opportunistic. Just like demanding the Duran rematch be several months sooner than it really should've been.
