The guitar riff gets stuck in your head. "Shut the door, baby. Shut the door, baby." gets stuck in your head. Pop perfection. I can't think of another pop song this well crafted. I've said my peace.

I don't even think it's nostalgia speaking, but I believe this is among the greatest pop songs ever written. Every single section has a killer melody, and the song has an unusual structure that you don't even notice unless you really pay attention.

as someone who is studying audio production right now, i agree. it’s a really well-written song with interesting riffs and harmonies, not to mention a strong vocal melody throughout. if this song wasn’t by sugar ray most people would think the same thing, but they let their opinion of “fly” cloud their judgement (edit: grammar)
@brainthebrian36903 жыл бұрын
@@kaphizmey6229 I think all the stuff they do is interesting and it works and I like it, but objectively it barely works and it sounds more like a goulash of things they were messing around with, that's also part of why personally like it.

What the 90s had going for it was the enthusiasm for the future (The 21st Century). People who experience dial-up Internet were aware that High-Speed Internet was just around the corner and all of the crap we take for granted today was a reality just about to happen. Then 9/11 happened and more and more people became cynical and philosophically weaponized against one another. Today we have a bunch of shallow "movements" on the Left, the Right, and inbetween vying for everybody's mental real estate. Everyone's pissed off and angry at the other guy for their lives being shitty.

This was my favorite song when I was 6 years old. Every time I hear it, I'm immediately taken back to memories of hanging out at my dad's jobsite on the weekends playing with his boss's dog while he did his work, lazy summer days either playing my Sega Genesis or laying on the living room floor doing work in writing and math practice books my mom had bought me while I waited for Animaniacs or Tiny Toons to come on, playing outside on the swingset with friends while my parents watched us. Man, I miss it all so much...We really do take the simpleness of childhood for granted, it's not until we have the responsibilities that adults have do we wish we could have those kinds of days back.

I was 5 years old when this came out. I remember it being on the radio. When I think of the radio play that was on back then.. This song, "fly" and a few by smash mouth are what come to mind. I had this song on a little cartridge for my "hit clips" music player thing. It was a little toy for kids before mp3 players became common. Am I still allowed to be part of the 90's group? This music was a little before my time and I now have to appreciate it after the fact, but god dammit.. this is some of the best music ever made. Not by masterpiece standards and its not a complex, grandiose piece, but I can't think of a song that makes me feel better than this.

This song is the perfect portal back to a better time. The 90's were the best, and the late 90's were some of the best years of my life. Surfing, skateboarding (and puffin da weedisses) with my best friends for the last few years of that millennium. Playing pc games, cruising the web & looking up anything I wanted without getting red flagged by the nsa, and smashing Tony Hawk Pro Skater (the 1st one of course) on PlayStation, just having a blast at 15, 16, & 17 years old. So flexible and so much energy back then. Made of rubber, and down to do whatever.

For about 2 months after I met this girl back in 2009 that lived in the same building as me, I would wake up and this song would be in my head so I'd sing it in the shower, apparently quite loudly because after 2 months I was outside talking with a friend and she pulled up in her Jeep with this song playing. Before this day I had been too nervous to talk to her but she walked up and said "I used to love that song but I forgot about it until I heard someone singing it every day and it's been stuck in my head." Long story short, just wanna say thanks for the assist in an amazing 3 month relationship that only ended because I felt her career was taking her places that I would only hold her back on. The things we do for love can't really be explained but I now have a beautiful wife and son so life couldn't be better.
