My grandma used to make this for us kids around Christmas time. It was always an occasional treat so rare that I often forgot all about it. But I recently realized it couldn’t be too hard to make it myself, and since my wife has a dairy allergy, I wanted to make a dairy-free version for her. With the help of this tutorial, I finally created my own, and it was everything I hoped it would be. Thanks!

I'm not sure how many chocolate chips are in a regular bag, but that's how many I use. I am making some right now and I wanted to make sure I was doing everything right so I watch the video. I am adding red and green m&Ms and extra thin pretzel sticks and calling it reindeer chow!

I’ve been making this for almost 30 years. Paper bag is the easiest way to coat with the powdered sugar. Also Crispex cereal is shaped like puppy chow dog food and is more authentic looking, as it’s more expensive I quit using it. I sometimes serve it in a clean, new doggie dish for fun. Fixing to make some today for my nieces birthday. I’ve been making it for her for 15 years for her birthday present.

Another easy way to coat the cereal with powered sugar is to fill a new grocery paper bag with the powdered suger then dump in the chocolate covered chex mix. Give the bag some good shakes & it's done! Also a fun way for the kids to join in & help😊 a little less messy. Thanks for the recipe! Great video!

I've wanted to make these! Imma make this recipe in a couple days, I'll update how it goes! Update: They turned out great! Even my dad thought they were good the next day after they've been in the fridge. He says they are addicting and he is right. But after seeing for myself the amount of powered sugar I had to use, these are def a once in a blue moon, kind of treat lol when i tried them when I first made them I could feel my blood sugar rise lol

I suppose you can use whatever kind of cereal you would like. The chex are pretty plain rice cereal without much flavor. I would stick to something like that. :)

I tried this recipe twice and it was great at first, but both times I noticed it had a bit of a chewy texture after about a day, almost like it was stale even though all of the ingredients were newly purchased. I saw a post somewhere saying it might be the water content in the butter causing that (I was using Country Crock brand, other brands may vary). I tried it a 3rd time using clarified butter (which has no water) and it fixed the issue. 3 days on and it's still crispy. So if anyone else encounters the same problem, give that a try.

I would definitely say the country crock was the issue. It’s not a true butter. You shouldn’t need to use clarified butter to get good results. 😊

O no! Sounds like the chocolate may have been heated too quickly or too much and it just started seizing on you. Next time try just melting it in short increments until it's all just melted and hopefully that will help. :)
