I went the other way around: I had a SSH+ in the bridge that was a bit too dark & harsh for my style of playing and installed an SSV+ instead. The 2 singles are Michael Landau signauture. All in all a good set: not as Stratty as a Fender, but more versatile. I usually play the amp at the verge of breakup, with the humbucker at 5 for rythm and raise it up to 8 for lead, as for the singles. I have a regular 6 screws tremblock, set up floating that stays well in tune. Neck is a roasted tight grain maple, with an LSR rolling nut, rosewood board. Gives it kind of a Jeff Beck vibe, with less harshness. I've changed the tuners for Hipshot Griplocks, the best in the market in my opinion: 18-1 gear ratio, staggered, smooth, precise... and good looking with their open back that show the brass wheels. Cheers !

Hi Dan, great demo of the modded Suhr, 👍 nice. Enjoyed your playing, even though you weren’t happy with it. The only PT100 that I was aware of is the Suhr, you mentioned a different name so I would like to know more when you do a video of that. Two of my favourite guitars have the tone knob just wired to the bridge pickup and is my preferred method. Eagerly awaiting your next video.

The CAA PT100 was the first version of the later Suhr PT100. It was built as a collaboration between Bob Bradshaw and John Suhr as I understand it. If you go back to Pete Thorns very early vids you can see the CAA version. Outstanding amp! Hopefully some video on it and some profiles on their way 👍

I built a parts caster. Nice 👍🏼 l installed a bridge Thornbucker + and didn’t like it. I changed to a Sheptone Humbucker and immediately like better. I installed a Vegatrem and yea love that.

i've had the same experience with the wilkenson bridge saddles as you have - i never break strings but on the PT sig they were breaking pretty regularly. i started tightening the locking screws only just enough to sit on the string (in other words not clamping down tightly on them) and have found the tuning stability is still there and so far haven't broken any strings (knocks wood).
@DanLeggatt
@DanLeggatt 2 жыл бұрын
I didn’t feel like I was doing them particularly tight at all but I guess I could have been. I recently had a tour and took them off in favour of some graphtech string savers. They don’t sound quite as good but I haven’t broken a string since. I might re-investigate the Wilkinson ones at a later date. Cheers

steevkelly is correct per Pete Thorn and others that the trick with the Wilkinson locking saddles is to watch out how much you tighten the screws.

Yes would love to see a comparison video Between the two bridge pickups. I’m considering swapping out the SSV with a JB but would be nice to keep it 100% Suhr. I have a JB in a couple of my other Strats and one Les Paul. I also dig the Lollar El Rayo in the bridge. Sounds great!!
@DanLeggatt
@DanLeggatt 2 жыл бұрын
I’ll have to check out the Lollar. I’ll definitely see what I can do about a comparison. I’m interested in the results myself. So hard to A/B pickups.

Update: I bought the SSH+ and having it installed now, I got a mint green plate, it’s nice, kind of a subtle mint so it’s nice. I just posted a photo on the Suhr Facebook Group. I’ll ping you back once I get the guitar back!! Cheers!

Dan, I’m loving the SSH+ and glad I was able to maintain all Suhr parts in my guitar. I did go for the auto split configuration and love it. I also went for the covered version of the pickup. Cheers!!

Good to see you back Dan! Beautiful guitar and tones 👌😎 Would it be worth considering a roller nut for tuning stability? May well help with the G tuning.

Interesting thought. I’m looking into some options. Going to get it in for a pro setup asap. I’ve always done my own but wondering if there is something I’m missing with this.

Hey Dan, found your channel whilst looking for Suhr Classic Tones and loved the sounds you are getting, so wondered if you can help. I’m about to take possession of a Classic S and would love to replicate the switching mods you have. Would you be able to share your wiring config and advise whether you’ve installed a super switch to allow these? I am being advised to install two push pull switches to achieve the same result. Any help would be appreciated. Love the channel!! Thx Dave.

Always beatiful sounds and playing!! What are the major differences between FGN strat and Suhr strat, the're both similar in specs but what sounds better???
@DanLeggatt
@DanLeggatt 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you. The FGN is a great guitar, punches well above its weight. However the Suhr is just better sounding and feeling. Rightfully so, the Suhr costs 3 times as much!

Nice vid, Dan. Did you consider the Aldrich bridge pickup too? If so, any particular reason you opted for the SSH instead? I have a modern T with Thornbuckers and might switch to Aldrichs for more push.
@DanLeggatt
@DanLeggatt 2 жыл бұрын
The Aldrich pups were definitely a consideration. I went for the SSH+ purely on what I read and listened to. I did love what I heard from the Aldrich. I was tempted to get a bridge one for my Les Paul in the near future.

Have you considered a pre-wired harness like an Emerson Custom or Obsidianwire?

Glow in the dark tape 🤣 nothing special. One of the shows I do involves a few parts in very low light or total blackout.

I think it's great you're making the guitar your own. Until you live with a guitar for a while you won't really know what all needs to change or maybe even things you weren't sure about turn out to work really well.

100% agree! A lot of people cringe when I talk about pulling a guitar like this apart but I would much rather make it my own.

500k V pot for the single coils?

The Suhrs have a little trick inside. If you link a resistor to the single coils, they ‘see’ 250k ish on a 500k pot.
