There are many reasons to love African Mahogany - it is beautiful, it sounds great, and is lightweight. The Modern Satin was created to celebrate the sound and beauty of this tonewood. These guitars feature a transparent satin finish which displays the natural beauty of the African Mahogany. The thin layer of satin finish also allows the neck and body to resonate freely, producing warm, lively tones that project loud and clear. It's not actually mahogany, not even 'African Mahogany' which is Khaya. This is Okoume which is one of the torchwoods known for their resins which are the source of particular types of incense. It's the leading export of Gabon hence it's other names 'Gabon' or 'Gaboon'. It's usually an inexpensive wood used primarily in marine plywood. The actual reason for the 2 piece body, for the person asking earlier, is that okoume (or Aucoumea) doesn't tend to grow wide enough to produce consistent boards for the size of a 1-piece guitar body. For the sake of consistency it makes sense to process the wood and size it accordingly.

Actually it is partly Khaya (neck wood) with a rosewood fretboard.. The body is African Okoume...

Love love my Suhr Modern Satin- hands down on of the best guitars ever made for the price. Plus it is light, comfortable to play and sounds fantastic. I will take it over any expensive guitar that cost 2-3x as much like Les Paul custom or PRS guitars.

+Zach Berse It's just a choice in construction method :) some people prefer a single piece for aesthetics. Cheaper guitars tend to use multiple pieces of wood, which tend to be less resonant, more chance of air gaps between the wood for example.
