Modern Satin is a beast. Delicate clean sound with full bottom end and it overdrives so naturally and gives you organic fluidity when playing.

do the intermediate positions (2 and 4) use the single coil in the middle + just one of the coils of the humbuckers? (like the ibanez JEM HSH wiring)

The intermediate positions are full humbucker in combination with the middle pickup.

The Pro series is a set model you can not pick all the options like you can on a custom guitar. Suhr is able to make a couple at a time making it less expensive.

I like these Suhr better than Fender Strats, why are they not as popular? The 24 frets, super comfy neck and range of tones is a winner for the price. Also how come not many rock stars play Suhr guitars compared to Fender, Gibson, ESP and Jackson? Never could understand that lack of representation.

Thanks for the comment! Less popular might technically be true, but IMO Suhr is not trying to be quite as "popular" so to speak, for example, they are not found in major retailers or big box stores, instead you find them in quality and passionate private retailers like ourselves here at N Stuff Music. Suhr pays attention to care for their products and attention to detail the whole way along the supply chain. They also have a small factory that employs a selection of highly dedicated employees. It just happens to be a smaller operation than a massive company like Fender. Both produce some of the best instruments money can buy.

Hey there Mark and nstuff! AMAZING play through of this fantastically simple yet unique looking guitar I have always been attracted to the look of raw wood on a fast looking guitar so I am right on the fence of buying this. My big questions are : could this guitar actually player heavier material more so rock metal rather than clean fusion as well? Next in EVERY position especially 2 and 4 when the humbucker are split, is the guitar still noiseless? and second the trem is dive only BUT is there a way to set it up so it floats even just a little bit so full down up vibrato and fluttering is possible?? Very curious to hear your feedback on this thank you in advance cheers from niagara falls Canada! - Adam

adam martynek Hi Adam I would say yes to all your questions. This is a simple yet top quality guitar with a powerful and transparent tone due to body and neck made of Mahogany and natural finish. I just got one from a metal player and I play mostly classic rock lead guitar.

As far as I know, the pro series line is just Suhr's 'standard' guitar of any particular shape. Consider it the difference between a Les Paul standard & a Les Paul custom. The build quality will be just as superb, but they will come in standard colors & configurations & you won't have a year+ waiting time on the build. Not sure whether you can buy the pro series directly from Suhr though. It may be that they pump them out to retailers for sale.

But not a single coil option for the humbuckers alone? Like the Guthrie signature model? That enabled the bridge or neck humbucker to act as a single coil even without the middle pickup.

it has that hollowy tone where you know its not a gloss finish, you can hear the wood, very resonant and all that but you gotta make sure you like that tone before you buy it, wayyyyy better than fender though

I own one...and tried 6 of these at a dealer...and all of them had at least a few dead spots on the neck where the note won't sustain very long and turn into a harmonic type note...like the guitar is so resonant, vibration cancels the note...I read on a blog somewhere that John Suhr is aware of this on the satin models...and that it's natural...but dead spots in all 7 guitars is a bit extreme...

They were professionally setup with no fretting out or buzzing...Raising the action helps deadspots a bit...but not by much~

Not exactly, but very close. Guthrie's suhr that looks like this has a set neck, and the neck radius is flatter (16"). The controls are a bit more versatile on Guthrie's with a push-pull pot and the blower switch. Then there's the tremel-no. Guthrie's guitar has stainless steel frets. One important difference is that the woods used are different. This is African mahogany, which is brighter sounding, and Guthrie's fretboard is Pau Ferro, not rosewood.

No, not baked. Suhr does that for maple only, as far as I know. At any rate, they would have specified if it was baked. That being said, they do put their wood in kilns to get it to the right humidity, but that's for any guitar.

Greg Koch really pulls the tone out of the guitars. Ive never seen you do that. Be finesse, but command the tone from the wood and strings... I pull it out like Greg. Dynamics man.....

Disagree. Some guitars sound great dirty and lousy clean, ever play an Ernie Ball Axis? And this is a 24 fret FLoyd loaded shred insprired guitar. I'll go out on a limb here and say not many guys are buying these to play jazz or blues. I DID play one of these and......I passed. Like plenty of other Suhr's, it played great, top notch quality, perfect frets, etc. Tone wasn't there for me, just like 3 other Suhr's I owned which are all sold.
