I’m sending you loving hugs. I see you dear friend. It can all feel very overwhelming at times. We are not alone. We’re in this together. You have a strong creative mind. You can create again & maybe with less sacrifices, but for now, maybe some rest, & grounding in nature, (etc?) is what’s required? Self care, self nurture is very important. 🥰❤️🌹❤️😘

I think it's important to take the WISDOM of all the INTELLIGENCES and bring them together Einstein said, "We are made up of ENERGY ENERGY does not die it transforms*" ThichNhathanh ENERGY is not dead but lives within our HEART where he has touched us forever. I feel his PRESENCE. LOVE NEVER LEAVES. Follow his teachings and he will lead you away from depression. Thank you one of such great love and wisdom.

Good sharing Master Thich. I was in deep pain suffer emotionally when my loved ones passed away. No matter how bad the situation stay strong give some times don't end own life. I think of my others loved ones who are still living makes me realize I cannot give up. I have to live well make life better for everyone. Because I am a swimmer I practice breath in, breath out before I swim. It really works I feel much better. Whenever I feel down or sad I will do this breath meditation. Thinking of those whose sick in hospital trying so hard to survive. Don't give up... life is great and full of hope. Just work harder wait for the good times to come. Stay blessed. Be patient that's all. 🙏🙏

I strongly recommend mindfulness practice, for people who are suffering from suicidal ideation, but that's not the first step. And I think it's irresponsible to suggest. There are phone numbers, and hotlines that you can call to get help. And to map out a plan In the healthcare system. Using mindfulness meditation as a placebo for everything is bad advice.

As much as I’ve enjoyed Master Thay till now, I don’t agree with this discourse referring to “one emotion” being ‘the answer’ alone . The title was about ‘suicide’ This is just a snippet of a longer discourse, so maybe that’s the problem ie that there’s more in the full discourse? And the person choosing this snippet wasn’t aware? I do understand it’s been a contribution to many others though. I was hoping to share this, during “are you ok” week & suicide prevention. It doesn’t sound like Master Thay is addressing anything serious like the horrific experiences of domestic violence, or someone whose witnessed a murder, or first responders who witness decapitations etc, or mental health conditions, that are treated with useless medications & things like ECT (electroconvulsive therapy), which can totally alter someone & often makes them worse, where they can’t even concentrate on “one emotion”. There is much much more required than the witnessing of “one emotion” suggestion. Breath & awareness is powerful but this simplistic overview is hardly going to assist parents of suicidal children, nor for the children themselves. But I acknowledge it’s a start. Maybe if the whole family were to live at plumb village & imbibe the discipline, the teachings, the compassion, then, overtime it could have lasting effects if participants are willing? I believe, this is a good start for kindergarten children to learn this technique & continue to improve it over their life, & that could alter their outlook, & source out help earlier, b4 the suicidal stage may come. Young people are in such a difficult position now where they deserve to seek a wonderful future but it’s not easy with economies & governments crashing, instabilities in many businesses, cost of a good education, cost of living, cost of housing etc, not to mention lockdowns where they haven’t been able to connect in person w friends! Media is promoting doom & gloom, & soo much more (eg, drugs, porn, virtual reality, the speed & access to more information etc) So all the more reason to assist our future adults in what ever way is possible to help them. What I’ve seen to date that where genuine assistance is required for mental health, disabilities, ill health etc it’s left up to the family & volunteers to manage while big corporations make billions in profits & squander it at the effect of local communities, creating more mental health issues. I guess this is giving us all the more reason to come together in whatever way we can, & despite the current circumstances that we do focus on whatever gifts we find, & create & can share? “The present beautiful moment”. I had no intention of writing all this & I’m not one for doing so. I’m grateful to be able to share here, regardless of who may agree or disagree. I would love to speak to Thay about this, but he’s no longer here, but I know he still visits us! ❤️ 🌼✨🌼 🙏🏼 Namaste 🙏🏼 🌼✨🌼

When belly attending, my jaw (feels deeper in my skull, actually), constricts. This is a tension I recall from early childhood, and it seems likely that part of me doesn't wish to allow the mindfulness of belly breathing. This has intensified over a period of years. When I was taught mindfulness, and attended to the breath, I was taught that if a sensation came, make that the focus of awareness. What might I do? Thank you.
@nineallday000

Just relax the jaw, if you slightly allow the jaw to drop down it really relaxes it. Its just a sensation in the body, no need to overly attach meaning to it; we are creating our own suffering when we come up with ideas for how things are instead of looking exactly at reality as it is. We have a bit of power to see which sensations actually arise; if an unpleasant sensation arises in the body, why not play around with our attention and see how things feel in our hands, or on the roof of our mouth? Why make new rules for ourselves to follow instead of playing with mindfulness as a new tool?

@@nineallday000 I appreciate the reply. These seem good pointers. Part of "the story", I see in my original comment. I'm unsure, as it seems I would be, of what is dis-ease versus disease which requires treatment. I remember a Zen story where, at a retreat, a practitioner came to a teacher and said, "Master, my chest feels as if it will explode. I'm having a heart attack." The Master replied Go back to zazen; this is a fine place to die. I'm weaning off a benzo taken as rx'd by doc, for a long time. Long enough to see 2 separate black box warnings, and have realized that this crap, which is requiring a slow wean, creates many of the symptoms which I sat through, was/is likely due to the affects of its neurotoxicity, while for years I sat, allowing that this was supposed to be happening- benevolent. Unwise, and yet knowing that trauma's on board, and having experienced, as the observer, "odd" movements and shaking, etc. almost from the onset, how to delineate? Again, if you made it this far, thanks for taking the time, and for sharing your wisdom.

@@Eric-tj3tg I'm a recovered alcoholic and drug addict, sober for many years and my best advice when experiencing things like you are is to try to take it easy on ourselves, allow the body to do what it knows to do which is to heal, try and develop patience with the process of recovery. Even if its prescribed by a doctor its still the same physical process our body is going through, i was self medicating in order to run away from my emotions for many years and functioning fine by societal standards on the outside. Internally though I was a mess before I really started practicing dilligently. The body and mind are going to do super funny things and it is all still just part of the process of life. Certain conditions arise for the body to react in a certain way, its not unique to us this is just how it is. The sun shines and the grass grows. We can still observe whats going on with the body, and have some deep compassion for ourselves. "I'm so sorry I did that to you out of ignorance, but I'm here for you now and can take good care now that I remember to wake up and look at whats going on with mindful breathing." Talking to ourselves gently like this with whatever words work best for us (you know yourself better than I do about how to talk gently and compassionately to yourself, kind of retraining our internal coaching), becoming the wise grandparent patiently sitting there while our body goes through this process. We need to work on having a healthy ego structure as well as seeing beyond the ego, both are important. Just know the mind and body can heal, it took many years until my mind felt 'normal' again.
