For all the issues I got with the Nolanverse, it still has a coherent narrative of progress and a definite finale. I feel like that's what they feel is the proper way for an unmasked Batman would do is legitimately accept defeat and disappear so his loved ones are no longer in jeopardy. Him coming back defeats that entire narrative, not to mention destroyed any chance for growth for the other members of the Bat Family (Kate, Tim, Jason, Barbara, and even Michael Lane) to shine in a proper way. Unfortunately Gotham Knights shot themselves in the foot by making what could have been a good spinoff sequel abd turned it into a lame elseworld story about a Batman who got his ass kicked and the gameplay is level locked in an RPG fashion.

Taking all the writing and polotics out of it, the Batman boss fight is the epitome of " you didn't understand the assignment". The fear toxin scenes in previous games was all internal, the giant boss was symbolic and not a real being (as this game somewhat suggests seeing Batman's condition afterwards) where when the illusion was conquered Batman promptly pummeled Scarecrow at the site of the gassing.

My favorite part is that Sweet Baby working on a project is like an anti-Nintendo seal of approval for quality. The moment I find out they work on a project I know it will be shit. Which is convenient when I know exactly what it is they'll inject into a game just by the mere mention of that company. Also Star Wars: Republic Commando had a diegetic UI that worked amazingly well. You're helmets visor gave you visual feedback on things you and your squad of clone commandos could interact with and it worked fine as it was presumably the same things your squadmates would see.

As much as I don’t want them to cover this game anymore than they have to, I would like to hear Mauler’s take on the twist regarding the “fake league”, with Flash’s returning thumb and the message “He will return”. The evil league being fake or alternate versions doesn’t fix any problems within the game’s story, but it starts to explain the disrespect the writers think is okay, because “they’re not the real league”. This ignores the fact that the squad have no reason to respect WW, and shouldn’t have such disrespect for Flash after he saved Harley twice. Twist aside the writing basically has all the same problems except now it’s concerning a fake league, and not the “original” arkham batman. The supporting cast's VA ranges from serviceable to store-brand gouda on the clearance aisle, and it generally stays there aside from a handful of moments. It's a waste of talent.

From what I understand the game hasn't been selling well on consoles either. Sure its abit harder to track those sales but if it was selling well you know these devs would've been celebrating the sales success since that would be a "gotcha" moment for them to all the "haters". The worst part about awful releases like SS:KTJL is that the individual programmers and artists will be the ones getting layed off because they're seen as the most disposable even though they were just doing their job. Real change won't happen to Rocksteady (or any bad studio) until the people responsible for the major decisions are removed - it's the managers and directors that need to be demoted or fired.

How much better would this have been if Red hood was one of the characters (he has actually lead task force X in the comics -and killed a bunch of them) and he was the one who had to mercy kill Batman. Basically a reverse of what happened in Arkham Knight when Bruce refused to fight Jason and instead tried to talk him out of it. Maybe Jason could have gotten that in this game and in a horrible moment of lucidity Batman begs his wayward son to stop him, to make sure he isnt used as a weapon by Brainiac, to make sure he won't hurt anyone else. That might have actually been impactful

Beyond that, that Forbes article is hardly credible, going as far to attempt to gaslight readers into actually buying that the script for this game is “the strongest aspect of the story.” Pretty funny. It is true that SBI lacks most of the responsibility for terrible dialogue/narrative since that’s already part of the industry to begin with. Rocksteady made a terrible game, with a terrible script, and terrible dialogue. SBI, working off of the same terrible framework as whatever bad writers Rocksteady used for their game, “consulted” to polish what was already manure with garbage. This is their business model. The blame should really go to an industry that would seek a company like this for garbage consultation, if not for enabling a company like this to exist. Regardless, calling what is mostly just a boycott movement “harassment” is quite the Orwellian perception and furthers the destruction of any real meaning the term once had when it’s used to refer to harmless, critical and/or mean comments from anonymous people on the Internet instead of serious, credible threats, i.e. crimes.

The crime of it all is that the writing shows absolutely no respect to ANY of the characters. Not a single one is honorable to the source material. Side and Main characters are all unbearable, and don't give a character worth remembering. The villains of the suicide squad all are still human to some degree. Only King Shark had a modicum of respect for the warriors that were the Justice League, but even he fails to adhere to that rule by allowing such disrespect. All four characters are human with aspects of them not being hidden under cheesy villain stereotypes. Even Lois Lane not getting the least bit upset that her husband/boyfriend just got killed? Or no gratitude for the heroes who saved and aided them? There's just.. nothing but insult and injury that this game was created upon. I want to blame Sweet Baby Inc for their influence on the writing. Who, of which are full of writers who procrastinate severely which can also explain the severe lack of any character depth. They clearly did not care for the source materials and wrote in just a nutshell personality of each character. While also going as far as they can to insult the heroes, with Rocksteady just spitting on everything that the previous games established.

By the way, I just thought of this. But besides having the villains being Brainiac mind controlling the Justice League, have it be the Crime Syndicate from Earth 3 or something, so we can have our stupid goofy evil villain Justice League counterparts and also not tarnish our beloved heroes. You can even have it be where the Justice League are sent over to the Crime Syndicate Universe, so we don’t kill them, they are just BFR’ed so the Suicide Squad have to handle things on our Earth. And then for DLC’s, have us get Justice League members to play as in the alternate universe. Or have both teams working on opposite ends to save the universes. So we get a League Member, then a Squad member. It still gives you goofy multiverse expansions, you can still have evil heroes, and as you kill off the Crime Syndicate members you don’t have to feel bad about MURDERING our MINDCONTROLLED heroes. You can still execute Batman on a bench, but it’s now Owlman. You can have Johnny Quick, who is a moron in the comics and loves to stop and talk, and not have Barry be the moron who just “stops to talk” besides immediately killing all the heroes.
