I'm hoping they've either used the original voice tracks or got the same actor back to re-record. Peter Marinker is one of my favourite VO artists.

I hate his selfish nihilism so much. He ruined his son’s life, leading the kid to commit suicide even after fighting through his cowardice and finding his father. Allant says the whole, “No one wishes to go on” but no sir, it’s YOU that wants to give up. Your own son only gave up after YOU ruined him. Don’t drag the rest of us down into your pit of misery. Sorry, he’s an amazing character, but I hate him. Ha.

@@robotfuture1581 Perhaps he did see something important through the Old One, something the rest of humanity couldn't, but I think ultimately his descent into madness was a craving for Souls and power, something the demons spawned by the Old One could only grant him. He's probably my second favorite king character in the Souls games, his sort of ambiguous role and motivation for waking the Old One is interesting.

@@paris-1911 allant was praised and loved by everyone, and gave prosperity to boletaria. he was not mad for power, unlike many other examples. he has already achieved absolute power for the kingdom by that time, but even this did not free his people from suffering and anxiety. so i guess the only way to stop it was to stop existing. it's interesting how fromsoft developed their future final antagonists from there. especially isshin, who has no good intentions behind his motivation whatsoever yet is the least evil of all king enemies

If he believes that ultimately nobody will wish to go on, (after all, he was right, and Ostrava stopped wishing to go on), then his actions are more courageous than selfish. He saves the world from being stuck in a cycle of dissapointment. However, from another perspective you are perfectly right. It is horrible for someone to take away the freedom. To chose your fate. And I think these two conflicting points of view are at the heart of the game's theme. That humans are overwhelmed by the conditions of life, and we fail at capturing a satisfying answer to how we should lead our life. God gave life to humanity in the first day, and death in the second day. And it is in our power to pick one. But we are stuck in indecisiveness.

Several things to list: “No mortal has an appetite for souls such as you.” How would he think I’d get strong in the first place? “Shalt thou seek everlasting demon souls…” (temptation) “… or obey that naïve Monumental?” (reason) “… the pain & suffering that fills this world,…” It’s true that Boletaria has seen better days after Allant gave in to the Old One’s tempting power. “… but fight poison with poison…” When you fight poison with poison, you make the whole world sick, just as an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind, or how fighting fire with fire makes the whole world go up in smoke. “God is merciful, and so created the Old One…” Why would an all-loving, all-merciful God create the Old One when that’s what brought about the scourges of demons in the first place? A merciful God with His Beloved Son Jesus Christ would never bring demons into the world, unless Mephistopheles/the Devil in the realm of Boletaria began allowing the Old One to awaken & cause further mayhem. An omnipotent, all-knowing God would enact justice on the demons, or at least work His power through the Slayer of Demons/your character. “The Old One will feed upon our souls, and put an end to this tragic realm of existence.” And what do you think happened the last time? Humanity almost faced extinction, hence why the Monumentals stepped in; all but one of them remains now. “No one wishes to go on.” So he says, but at the end of the day, there are still people in this world who would want to retain a sense of hope & solace, even if Boletaria has fallen in disarray.

The entire dialogue is a cope of his to begin with. Glad you see it for what it is and not as the gospel of the state of the world itself as some interprete. All of Boletaria has become like this BECAUSE of this man, King Allant. He is no different from a modern narcisst, gaslighting you for stopping him. "Oh I just want to do the right thing, I want to end it all (after I was the one that made it all go sour in the first place)". And from all the people still alive and even the Black Souls spawning to stand in your way - They all clearly want to live, are still invested in this world. It's only King Allant who really dislikes the world and it's mostly because being a grant Demon Blob probably isn't the reward he expected for giving the Old One access to the world.

@@Ok-kk8ei but then, what exactly is the Talisman of God represented in this game? What about God’s Wrath when you transfer the Dragon God Soul over to Saint Urbain? Before Urbain shows up, the Apostle of God states in dialogue spoken to you “Spells are inherently bad, and miracles are inherently good.” Unless there’s something I’m missing. Ik that transferring of souls gives you a specific spell or miracle when given to an NPC. Maybe the involvement of Soul Arts has something to do with it, and maybe miracles & spells aren’t quite as different from each other as we thought?
