I'm always amazed at these types of stories, wherein one partner murders the other in order to avoid (in part) shared custody. Now you get NO custody, and your poor children have one parent in prison and the other in the grave. I cannot wrap my head around that kind of shortsighted selfishness. Great analysis as always, Dr. G!

There's a psychological/economical experiment called the ultimatum game. It goes like this: two parties interact anonymously and only once, so reciprocation is not an issue. The first player proposes how to divide a sum of money with the second party. If the second player rejects this division, neither gets anything. If the second accepts, the first gets her demand and the second gets the rest. Usually when people are offered less than 20% of the sum, they reject the offer and nobody gets anything - even though they would get free money anyway, they would rather the other party get nothing. People aren't always concerned with what they gain. They're concerned with what's "fair".

Selfish arrogant and utterly blinkered infatuation! She sounds like a woman that has got all she wanted on her terms and a husband that pampered her but it was not enough and she then crossed over into thinking she could do anything! A dangerous mix indeed.

Right, if you love your children, you don't kill the only other person they love and loves them unconditionally. I don't even badmouth my ex husband around my son, even though it is tempting sometimes. But what does she know about love, anyway? Remember she actually destroyed two families.

I'm from NJ and it was great. Four seasons and great Diners and restaurants. Lakes, forests and nature. After 4 years in Syracuse New York for work, I ended up in the Los Angeles area of CA. So, of course I miss New Jersey and White Castle hamburgers, etc. But having gotten older I understand the benefit of not having winters and how that is being being able to do more outdoors.

I'm just back from visiting my dear old Dad in hospital, berating myself for the last few years where illness and shame for my own uselessness made me see less of my Dad than before. Hope she makes it to 101 just 2 days b4 her release! FYI, at trial, the gambling evidence only showed that he gambled legally and was at that time ahead. The defense tried to exaggerate the level of his gambling. As for his felony, it was for trying to lie in one of his car-related convictions. He actually wasn't a reprobate at all. I agree w/you that she's 100% guilty. It's only her "persona" (nurse, good-looking) that baffles some people but killers come in all styles.

You'd think by now, people would realize the odds of getting away with murder are not in their favor. Yet, time and again, the murderer feels he/she will succeed. Melanie left a trail that could only point to her as the killer. For someone so well educated, she made some pretty dumb mistakes.

This woman was young, beautiful, had the personality of a cheerleader (or so I hear from her patients that I know), a great job, and she threw it away instead of walking away. Her husband paid the ultimate price. He surely never saw this coming.

Thank you for posting this Doctor. I find it amazing how people can do the most heinous things, but still not take it a step further, and own up to their evil act. Who are they kidding? Who else would've done it? She's a very scary monster. No matter what one had done to their partner in life, no one deserves their life snuffed out without repercussions. I'm sad for Bill's parents and family. I had to edit this and add that Bill & M. had children. I forgot or didn't know about that from the news programs. They will suffer the most from their Mother's cold, thoughtless murder. Killing is bad enough, but they will deal with media scrutiny and nightmares from knowing their Father was mutilated and thrown away in the Atlantic. No words. Also, I notice you give your "stamp"of approval with your thumbnail photo mostly when you are complimented 🤔. Why do doctors lose their humility?

@@LDiamondz thanks.. it's a crazy case.. he didn't just go shooting.. he went through rural areas, killed people hiding in their homes, set fire to most crime scenes.. over a 13 hour period, covering over 30 miles dressed as police, driving a police car replica.. we don't see much gun violence here.. especially not like that.. @@AMM3. I remember hearing about this case. It was horrifying. That he wore the RCMP uniform made it even more disturbing, somehow. @@LDiamondz I think police actually killed him in the end, and yes the whole dress like a cop/ drive a replica cop car was a huge problem.. police officers almost shot each other, and then they had to warn the public that he was impersonating an officer.. so nobody knew who to trust in the police response.. huge scary mess

Would you consider giving your take on historical European monarchs or nobility that have committed crimes, sometimes in the name of state and church? Elizabeth Bathory who is an infamous noblewoman that was a serial killer would be interesting, as would all of the sufferings of Protestants and Catholics who were the wrong religion than that of their monarchs.

To this day Melanie has not ever been curious about who murdered her husband. That speaks VOLUMES. If someone murdered and dismembered your husband and you were locked up for it after 13 years you would expect her to be HORRIFIED THAT YOU WERE PAYING FOR SOMEONE ELSE"S CRIME. That would be all you'd think about. If she was innocent she would be HANGING ONTO THE DAY THE REAL KILLER GOT CAUGHT. She considers no such notion...................

Hello Dr. Grande, can you analyze the murder of Scott Fricker and Buckley Kuhn-Fricker of Reston, VA? They were both shot and killed by their teenaged daughter's boyfriend (Nicholas Giampa,19). The Frickers heard noise in their daughters bedroom at approximately 5am. When they opened the daughters door and demanded Giampa leave he shot and killed both of them. It was a horrific and senseless tragedy and I would appreciate your analysis.
