EDIT: Wow, I wrote this comment 3 years ago and cannot believe lots of people would relate. Thank you and sending love and healing to you all all. Also wanted to share in case it may help someone: as a way to cope and function better now, I wear loop earplugs. I can no longer tolerate yelling and have become sound sensitive, easily overstimulated when there's lots going on around me so I wear the loop earplugs which help me ground and focus on the task, the conversation at hand. I am so grateful for you and this video 🙏❤ As a child, I used to "play" with my ears a lot, it was very soothing and I would do it after getting yelled at, as I cried or when I got scared of my dad - which was almost everyday. I look back at the little girl who was constantly scared and hurt, and realize how she did her best to soothe herself and her body - regardless of people calling her weird for doing it. Im crying writing this cause Im overwhelmed... and I am grateful to be able to heal and get better at the same time 😭🙏❤

Pushing airwax inside your patients ear canal while simultaneously putting them at risk for ear infections/penetrating their tympanic membrane seems like a great idea. For the record, the auricular vagus branch is sensory, NOT parasympathetic/sympathetic. Its main fibers are not even within reach as it descends ventral to transverse cervical processes. Sorry to burst your bubble, but this is pseudo medicine. Stick with approved EBM when caring for patients.

Asian Guy, is spot on about Anticipatory Anxiety. GAD which is the acronym for Generalized Anxiety Disorder, is all encompassing "disease". After many years of suffering from anxiety which started off "light" at age 7 or so. Nail biting, looking at my watch in the 3rd grade to see the time so we could leave (Catholic Elementary school with Nuns), and evolving slowly but Surely into GAD as a young adult. If you experience traumas ( I did, having a Mentally ill Mother who after years of anxiety / and depression [the depression was the worse edge of the "SWORD"], culminating in her suicide when I was 24 & married), the traumas are Etched into your Mind, lurking and waiting to emerge at just the right Moment ..... Anxiety and Panic Attacks. I could a Novel about it and trials and Tribulations of it... In fact, writing daily is a new therapy approach to this disease (watch Therapy in a Nutshell on YT (Dr. Emma), Terrific advice there. God Bless you all and may yiou find peace. I have had trouble yawning for 2 days and my resting heart rate laying in bed was 101. My sister told me it was probably my vagus nerve. Researching a resolution, i found your video and I'm absolutely grateful to you. I first tried your video about moving your eyes and I fellt so calm doing it. Then i tried this one. Pushing the skin behind my ears made me burst into tears. My husband was watching and looked concerned. I told him I have no clue why I was crying. But it was so relieving to me. The yawning issue was so much less today and my heart rate has gone down. I'm going to keep trying this as I feel it has helped so much. Thank you!!

Watching this video and the one prior to this, made me realize that I’m not crazy, when people say, “what do you have to be anxious about, you’re retired…” It seems that it’s a program running in the background and that’s what I need to work on. As a massage therapist or 25 years, I found that many clients particularly enjoyed ear massage, but I didn’t realize why, never having made the connection to the vagus nerve. Thank you!
@AuricularMedicine3 жыл бұрын
Yes, Sheri, you are right, an ear massage can yield excellent results. Beyond just the vagus nerve (which Sukie has introduced here), the ear receives the major nerve branches. As you may know from acupuncture, the ear is also considered a microsystem. In fact, the World Health Organization (WHO) recognizes the auricle as having the highest density of reflex points,[1] and fMRI research has shown that the brain responds the same when the body point or the respective ear point are stimulated.[2-3] In short, the ear offers a window to the brain - an access point for neuromodulation. Massage therapists who apply auricular methods, especially the clinical approaches found in Auricular Medicine, are able to identify, prioritize and treat blockages to healing by priming the nervous system for tissue release and much more.[4-5] We appreciate Sukie’s introduction to simple stimulation techniques - using one of the best tools for insight that every patient already brings you, their ears! It is important to use the right points (using a definitive reference such as the Precise Pocket Atlas by Dr. Beate Strittmatter, MD, referenced below) and distinguishing between active and inactive points. @@nataliesmith9947 I still feel like there's a stigma around mental health, even with more people trying to recognize it. If they taught us these things, probably in middle and high school, we'd have more skills to handle the stresses of life and kids could learn about mental health. They probably won't be interested, but it could be taught again in high school. What really pisses me off is that none of my psychiatrists worked on these things with me as a kid. I'm 33 now, and have dealt with OCD since I was 5. They would ask me some questions, then talk about my SSRI. I don't even remember the questions, but it wasn't even beneficial talk therapy. I hated going there as a kid, so talk therapy probably wasn't the best anyway, unless the doc had a good personality... and none of them did until I was an adult lol. If they could've done more activities with me, like breathing or this kind of stuff, or games or something that are calming, it would have been sooo much better. Sorry I got off topic and rambled on! This stuff is super important though, especially if you have kids or work with kids, like yourself.

I watched this video while wearing a pulse oximeter and watching the bpm number as I did the exercises. I started with a bpm of 98-102. By the end of the video, bpm was down to a low of 64, but a pretty sustained 70-72. The most remarkable thing was the release of tension in the chest as I breathed as well as the relief from back pain between the shoulder-blades along the spine. I have to admit I watched the first video recommendation with the hand on head exercises as a complete skeptic. As quickly as those produced results, this was even quicker and would be easier to do in public if you're feeling anxious. 99% O2 level and 70bpm as I finish typing this.

Susie, this is AMAZING! I just did this for the first time and feel like I need a nap! I've suffered from Recurrent Major Depression for 55 years and NOT ONE HEALTH PROFESSIONAL HAS EVER EXPLAINED THE IMPORTANCE OF THE VAGUS NERVE TO ME. I've been going through an extremely difficult time lately, despite being on my usual meds, taking an additional med to help sleep when needed, exercising and being retired yet NOTHING has helped to rid me of the extreme agitation in my neck, shoulders & head like these simple exercises. So THANK YOU so much for sharing this healing technique. I want to share it with everyone!!

exactly the same here, so relaxed and yawning. Interestingly I've always massaged my ears when stressed intuitively but never understood why until today. It also works with cats btw...my little furry loves a gentle ear massage...she starts drooling so I'm curious if the vagus nerve in cats works the same as in humans.

I have EDS, dysautonomia, and mast cell reaction disorder. I've always intuited that most of my dis-ease manifestations are related to the over use of my parasympathetic nervous system. This has been the most gentle and by far the most effective way to let our bodies know there's no threat. It's definitely the lessis more concept. I like to compassionately and lovingly think words and send them through my fingertips. It's fascinating how quickly I felt muscle spasms just relax all over my head, neck, diaphragm, back, traps, sternum and even my hips. I'm even significantly less bloated (when I have migraines I tend to have bloating up under my ribs and entire abdomen. I'm looking forward to learning more from you. This info has been here and it's been kept till the right time. It's time! It's the most powerful relief I've found. Thank you for sharing this gift with us.

I have been having anxiety episodes for the past 7 months. Every 4 weeks I have endured a very full on physical experience of heart palpations.. I have had medical echogram shows heart is healthy. I was told possibly go on "heart meds" to reduce beats however I just didn't sit well with this. I was diagnosed having "anxiety" stored and trauma stored away for a long period of time in my life. That does make sense.. I feel like a motor running in the background that goes into overdrive at any given time. I was told about the vagus nerve not long ago by a homeopath . I found YOU as well.. I am trying to help myself as I can't keep going on like this... Its not nice, its uncomfortable when these heart palpations just come especially when I am in bed trying to rest or sleep... I am doing the exercises.. I need to commit to this... I want a happy and healthy life moving forward.. Thankyou so much, I will keep engaging in your videos... God Bless you...

Love this! I have a hearing disease, which I've had operations for. I use hearing aids. I also have extreme and continuous tinnitus. This technique released the tightness around and in each ear, relaxed me, slowed my breathing and heart rate. Calming the vagus nerve seems to give me ability to be present with my condition as an observer from a distance...as if it's not happening to me. Great addition to my contemplative daily practices (yoga, meditation and resonance breathing). Assists alot with anxiety and relieves depression from chronic pain and trauma. Thanks, Suki! @WeWereTheJoySetBeforeHim4 ай бұрын
@@andreak8202 Sorry you're dealing with that. First off, if you don't know Jesus Christ, get to know Him. He is real, and He's literally the only reason I've survived the past 5 years of my life. I'd be dead for sure if not for the encouragement, comfort, and strength He's given me. I pray that you'd get to know Him and if you haven't already given your life to Him and made Him your Lord and Savior, that you would. I could go on for hours about the supernatural stuff that has happened, despite the hell I've gone thru, the past 5 years. Other things,.. stress management. Accept the fact that you have to and can take it easy on yourself while you recover. Don't be hard on yourself. Give yourself time and grace. Get outside and try and get 10-15min of bareskin sun a day. Get your feet in the grass and earth/ground as well for that length of time. Make sure you're hydrated. Eat as clean and healthy as you can. Get the wifi out of the house so that your adrenals/nervous system don't have that slamming you 24/7. Low emf atmosphere will help. Don't read the horror stories of people who took a very long time to heal. As true as it is that it can take a long time, most don't suffer that long. Take up hobbies that give you purpose and enjoyment if you can. Keep your self talk as positive and life building as you can. And realize that when you're done with this, you will enjoy and appreciate the life you have so much more than you ever could before realizing this type of pain. I pray that helps you and for a quick and easy recovery. God bless.

@@andreak8202 Not to mention too, don't be tempted to go back to the psychiatric drugs for any reason. They are toxic and horrible. The only reason I've suffered as long as I have was from years in the past of c/ts, tapers, reinstatements, and multiple drugs. Getting off and staying off is what will lead to the freedom and health you want, even if it takes a bit.

I am 36 years old and new to anxiety and what comes with it. I've had digestive issues for months and over the past week heart palpitations started and panic attacks which I assume were caused by my gut. Still unsure at this moment but these ear massages instantly gave me relief. Thank you!

I had plastic surgery on my ears when I was 13. My ear cartilage is very thick and scarred. I felt such a marvelous release of tension doing these exercises. Thank you.

I have severe TMJ/TMD with a pinched nerve in my face from it. Stress is a major component in my flares so I've been looking into vagal nerve stimulation to help relax the joint. Unlike your five billion bots that were pulled back from the brink of death by your video, you caused me to have nerve pain on an otherwise good day in a month long flare. I thought I might actually end today without needing my cocktail of medications. Bless 🙏🏼

I had anxiety for the first 5 minutes, after that I started to relax. Pretty cool stuff.

I’ve been in a near constant state of fairly intense anxiety for the past few weeks. After doing these exercises I feel a bit more relaxed. I believe my body and mind are conditioned to feel anxiety after so long and that it will take time for me to un-learn this state of anxiety. I will keep trying.
