"How can a slave rule the harem, they say." The stupidity of this line truly never fails to amaze me. Even if the show wants to buy into the falsehood of Suleiman's mother being a "princess", literally every other mother of a sultan and ruler of the harem were slaves that eventually earned their freedom exactly like Hürrem.

not truly. before hurrem, most ottoman sultans married women of noble or royal ranks to strengthen the ties between the ottoman family and form alliances with other neighbouring states, thus, strengthening their power. it was during, or roughly before suleiman's reign, that this tradition shifted to include concubines or women captured from enslaved environments to avoid any political complications within the family. the title "valide sultan" did not exist before hafsa sultan, meaning that mothers of previous sultans never held any official power towards harem (keep in mind the fact that women were not allowed to wield any significant or political power during that time). the case with hurrem is vastly different, because she was actually the first ever concubine to wield that type of power, and the first to break the norm that a slave cannot wield political influence, which paved way for the "sultanate of women" period.

Isn't Hafsa (princess or not) first Valide Sultan? I read somewhere, that Suleyman elevated his mother and Hurrem, which shows he really respected women important in his life (later also Mihrimah).

@@nielubieinceli Hafsa was, indeed, the first woman to hold the rank of Valide Sultan, but she was by no means the first woman of a slave rank to have given birth to a future sultan? Mihrimah was certainly respected by her father, stepping into the role of advisor left empty after her mother's death, but she never officially held the title of Valide Sultan, if that's what you're referring to.

@@nielubieinceli mihrimah sultan was officially valide sultan despite being dynasty sultana, she was the only one to do it. She was called 'mihrimah valide Sultan' and lived in valide sultan apartment of topkapi.

Unfortunately, Hurrëm never take a proper precaution in protecting the Agas whom served her. All ended up been killed. Even Sumbul Aga protecting himself and that was because he has power for his long service in Harem

Because they're all just NPC's in Hürrem's games. She doesn't care about the lives of anyone but herself and her sons. Once they're done their part of her storyline she couldn't care less about their lives or whether they live or die
