This was one of those rare films where every role was perfectly cast. Colleen Duhurst, though, was so far beyond amazing as Marilla that nobody else could ever play her. You really believed she WAS Marilla she so embodied the role.

Colleen Dewhurst is a lady dripping with class, as well as potent character. I love her quiet confidence and her delivery of the lines in the movie. There are a few actors that I believe are case studies on how to embody a role. She embodied Marilla Cuthbert to where Few others could do it justice. I loved to watch her bring that character to life.

It was a really incredible cast. I think part of it was that they all meshed so well together. You could really feel the love between the characters especially Marilla, Anne and Matthew.

So sweet to hear her appreciation for Megan and then to watch Megan's interview where she says how much she enjoys working with Colleen. Both very intelligent, talented, professional individuals. I love how analytically they both approach acting. No one else could have played these roles

I have always adored Colleen Dewhurst's lovely grey eyes; they're comforting and calm, and yet there was the sky & sea in them.... I believe there was such wonderful depths to this woman.... so earthy, and yet complex. I loved her ever so dearly, and her as Marilla Cuthbert were such a blessing to me as a role model, and I truly felt a kinship w her. To produce such warmth, and loving emotion in viewers, is the hallmark of a wonderfully gifted actress/actor. She embodied in that character much of my own beloved grandmothers. I will always miss Colleen Dewhurst, and will treasure these dvds & videos. I loved all the charcters in these movies & series. L.M. Montgomery is also my very favorite authoress; she is the one who wrote all of these stories, for those who do not know. This was all, these movies, series, & the books; my liferaft of comfort as a child, and I must admit that even at 38, I still feel the same. Rest in peace Colleen Dewhurst, and know you were and are dearly loved. I am grateful to ylu, the entire cast of these movies, & the series, and L.M. Mobtgomery, & Kevin Sullivan; for all the enrichment and blessing of peace, comfort, & happiness, & lovely escape from harsh reality you have all bought me. I love you all. Truly, my deepest thanks to true kindred spirits. To act and direct the way you all did, shows what wonderful ppl you all must be! Everyone involved in these productions did an ultimately amazing job, and to this very day, you enrich my life. Thank you with my deepest admiration, gratitude, and affection. Also, Megan Follows has now brought back to life her amazing, almost unearthly talent to whisk me away into a character, in the Netflix series, "Reign " . I love you Megan... you have embodied the person I am in your Anne character, and have freed what I was not free to be, or say... Thank you Love. I hope to meet you one day. #KindredSpirits 😍😙🤗

There were many parts of Anne Shirley's life that were similar to mine &every single day for about 6yrs, I would watch both Anne of Green Gables &Anne of Avonlea. I would disappear into their world &I actually have a difficult time finding the words to explain how wonderful, how mesmerizing, how for filling, how life changing &dare I say, even life-saving this movie was for me. For a long time Anne Shirley was my only friend. The casting, acting, direction &writing of this film, to me, there is no other movie that is even remotely as PERFECT, as this one. They could not have chosen better actors to play the roles, then what they did. Usually a movie will have one, if not more, actors that just do not fit, that are just not quite right for the role they are playing, even if the movie is a great one. Well, not with this film. Not even remotely close. It was almost like every single actor that was chosen for this film was born to play the character that they did. I have no disillusions that this comment will reach any of the people that I am talking about, but I wanted to say >---> To ALL the people who made this film, the writers, actors, casting directors, set directors, costume design, ect... everyone who was involved in making this film >----> THANK YOU

She will remain in our hearts, the lady who gave Anne Shirley a better place to live, who loved her as her own daughter. Great actress, RIP Ms. Colleen Dewhurst. Last movie of her that I saw was "Dying Young" with her son Campbell Scott, (am I correct?)

Cannot stand the new Netflix version. Its terrible!!! they should just leave well enough alone. This was perfection you cannot mess with it. BTW my husband and my three sons absolutely enjoy these movies P.S I read that Colleen had suffered a stroke b4 she starred in these movies. Does anyone know if that's true or not?

Kitty Kat Yes no other film can come close. Impossible. They should have just left it at the first version. There can only be the original. This series has brought me endless joy. There is no cursing, violence, action or nudity. This film just grabs your soul.
