I remember years ago when ESPN's Bomani Jones pushed back on the popular idea of people boasting of football and basketball coaches being "father figures" to kids coming from broken homes. He said something along the lines of "You're father can't also have an interest in whether you win or lose" the idea being that parents have to love unconditionally and that while coaches may care for those kids, in many instances, they also need the kid to perform to win to help their career. It's too common that kids who have that parental hole in their lives and are extremely talented like Deryck are exploited by sick adults in their lives who take advantage of them. Also, Deryck speaking out is huge because there's still a stigma for male victims of abuse to come forward.
@pl33Ай бұрын
Very good point
@Day-ZDukeАй бұрын
Maybe you didn’t grow up playing competitive sports.....but TONS of actual parents have massive interest in whether their child wins or loses. Parents spend time and money getting their child into training camps, off season coaching / training, additional development in peripheral activities, etc, etc. The parents know that their child could have an awesome opportunity to either get their schooling paid for by college scholarships, or ideally become a professional athlete Now, some parents take it waaaay too far, but most parents still have an interest to see their child win. Doesn’t mean they will love them less if they lose Additionally, most coaches of kids don’t have a “career” coaching that depends on winning. They do it in their spare time / evenings and weekends, outside their actual career. The only coaches where winning would matter are professional coaches working for big high school and college programs. Or elite prep school type things. Most youth sports are not for profit enterprises / leagues

@@Day-ZDuke I'm obvs referring to like hyper competitive AAU programmes where the kids actually have a shot at pros obvs it doesn't apply to every situation. Yeah that’s too bad. I always like Treble Charger too. Pretty sure it was Sum 41, eve 6, Finger 11, possibly Gob? But definitely Deftones, Foo Fighters, Our Lady Peace, and Smashing Pumpkins. And A Perfect Circle was supposed to play but at the last minute one of them had to fly home due to a family emergency. At least Maynard still came out to sing Passenger with Deftones, lol people were completely freaking out too, yelling his name like he was the second coming of that Jesus dude. Anyways, we were lucky to have so many great Canadian bands in the 90s, like The Age of Electric, The Odds, Limblifter and Sloan, Bif Naked, I Mother Earth and Big Wreck…and of course the Almighty yet Tragically Hip! It is a shame to hear this about Greig, if true, and I highly doubt Deryck would make something like this up. But I guess we now have the answer to the question Greig asked all those years ago…,which is Yes, he had indeed Sunk to a brand new low. …and as I’m also 41, I have to agree, I too favoured earlier Treble Charger, like Red!

I guess Deryck was channeling his fury and pain over his trauma through music, much like how Chester did with LP. But unlike Chester, I suspect Deryck had a better support system around him, which helped keep him from going off the deep end, and perhaps he did not suffer from mental illness as strongly.
@slightleeaddicted9415Ай бұрын
Deryck coming out publicly and getting this off his chest might might give others the courage to go public regarding their experiences with that manager if there were other incidents involving him under the assumption that these allegations are true. When I first read the title I got super bummed thinking I would hear something awful that Deryck may have done and avoided even clicking the video for several hours because of it. Deryck and Sum 41 were a huge influence to me when it came to stepping outside of the genres of music I listened to when I was just a kid. Once I started listening to them music became more than just nice sounding noise to me and kind of pulled me out of my inner shell I would say. Hell I still can't listen to pieces without nearly bawling my eyes out. Their music truly spoke to me and helped begin to shape my personality as I was going through junior high and then getting into high school. I was heavily bullied through elementary and music like theirs gave me the courage to go from the kid hiding from bullies in the hall to knocking the lights out of anyone who dared to put their hands on me or my friends. Hell after the 1st time I layed a kid put in my first fight I got into after the kid put me in a headlock randomly for no reason people stopped for the most part and it was just such a good feeling to no longer be afraid. But now after learning that the allegations themselves are not against Deryck and instead are awful things allegedly done to him I'm not really sure. I feel much better... Regardless I hope he gets all the support and help he needs and surrounds himself with only those who truly care about him while he's going through this stuff.

“Bass man” 😂 I’m going to take a guess and say you get called phobic a lot.

Such a legendary band. A couple of the best albums ever imo. Really sorry to hear this. Shit is so sick and never seems to end. Prayers for Deryck man 🙏

Fuck sakes...Greig Nori is responsible for the 2000-2003 era of my music taste.

I know I love his music too. This is just terrible news.

He kept strong even after the abuse and gave his fans what they wanted. He is a hero

Damn, I liked Treble Charger too. I won’t hear the songs the same now.

Ffs, this is so disappointing and disturbing to learn. I use to like Treble Charger but not now. I hope Derek can heal now that he has opened up.

Hope he is in counseling.

It's safe to say that NOW the treble Charger singer has truly sunk to a brand new low. All the best to Whibley's healing. I hope he's doing alright.

Damn, first Jacob Hoggard now this. I always enjoyed Hedley and Treble Charger (I love Hundred Million and the video) but I can’t listen to their songs the same way now. I was never a big Sum 41 fan but I hope Derick can find peace

This is so fucked...I grew up looking up to them, thinkink they dont take shit from noone...didnt know how common these situations are in the industry back then of course....breaks my heart honestly. All the love to Derrycky and Sum 41. This book is a must buy ❤❤❤

This answers a lot of questions such as why he got into such a bad state through his addictions. I hope that anyone that bastard is currently managing gets to hear about this hopefully before he does it again to another victim. With the entertainment industry being the way it is its no wonder why there's a massive issue with stars becoming mentally ill, sinking into addiction or outright taking their own lives. Something has to be done to stop this from going on but sadly speaking out isn't an option and silence is one of an abusers favourite tools.

This is heartbreaking. I am a huge sum 41 fan and I hope he gets justice for this.

Justice for what. The man was 18 when it all happened, there is no Justice to be served. The man was into gay shit for a bit and that’s it

I can't believe this happened to him cause I'm shocked but I most definitely believe everything he said...this is so heartbreaking tobhear
@DirtySk8RatStaneyАй бұрын
Damn…… my heart goes out too him. At first I thought it was something he did, and I’m glad to see he’s done nothing wrong. But it sucks that so many people in the entertainment industry go through this kinda stuff all too often. I’m also glad it’s starting to come out about all these absolute creeps and criminals behind the scenes of our favorite celebrities.

I heard this as rumor maybe 15 years ago. I figured it was a matter of time before Dreyck told everybody about it, good on him. Nori is a predator and a psychopath.

Yeesh, that wasn't what I expected. That's absolutely terrible for him. Nobody should have go through horrific abuse like that.
