@hellostudiom2 жыл бұрын
Hi Isa! I suggest using a bit more ink. The ink needs to be concentrated to get darker circles/rings. The more you dip the inked brush tip on the water, the more ink there'll be and the darker your rings will be. Sometimes I dip my brush with the black ink into the water several times before I dip my brush with the soap/dispersant. I want the ink to appear darker before I start creating making the rings. I hope that helps! 🤗

Hi! So many great questions! For this technique, I just add water to the tray (distilled or soft water works best for me). I have two cups beside the tray-one cup has Yasutomo black sumi ink and the other cup is a mixture of regular tap water with a few drops of dish soap. You can try different inks, but I find inks meant for Suminagashi work best. I don't treat my paper or add anything to it. I use Yasutomo's hosho paper pad (6h) and it holds up really well in water. If you're just starting, I recommend using a non-glossy, cheap printer paper to practice. That's what I used for a long time.

I use yasutomo black sumi ink and haven't tried a surfactant yet. I typically use distilled water and that seems to work well for me. If your ink isn't floating, you can try using a bit less soap in your water mixture. You can also try reducing the amount of ink you're using. Sometimes, it's a combination of both things. Tried this. My ink (black magic pigment drawing ink) sank to the bottom of the tray after a few seconds. I think my brushes were too small. Any tips?
@hellostudiom3 ай бұрын
Great question! There are a few possible causes: ✒️ Ink: If the ink is too dense or heavy, or you use too much of it, the ink may not float on the water's surface. Try thinning it down with a bit of water to see if that makes a difference. 💧 Water: Cold or hard water can make the ink sink faster. Try using slightly warmer water to help the ink float. Try experimenting with your ink in small cups or dishes so you can see what works best. I hope that helps! 😄

Hi Tanya! That is a great question. I normally lay it flat to dry on a cloth on my desk (in the space right next to my water tray). I lay it down right after pulling it out of the water and try not to handle it for a couple hours. The dry time varies depending on the humidity in my apartment and available sunlight. There's regular water in the tray and then I have a cup of water with a little bit of dish soap mixed in it. That's what I put on the brush.

Que papel usas

When I first got started I used cheap printer paper. Now I use the Yasutomo pad of hosho paper (6H). Paper that is "unsized" or made for printmaking often works best. I hope that helps!

That's so cool! I took a few art classes when I was younger but everything was focused on drawing (which I wasn't good at). 😆

Is this just water
@hellostudiom3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching Neety! Water prep in the cup: I add 1-2 drops of dish soap to 4-6 oz. of water. 🧼 The water in the tray is from the tap. Hope that helps! 😃

Cairan yg putih apaan ya?

The white liquid is actually not white at all. Almost like magic! It's just water with a little bit of dish soap mixed in. The solution works as a dispersant in between the black ink rinks. Pretty cool and simple!

Hi! It's paper. A Japanese hosho paper so it's a little different than regular paper.
