Thank you for this EXCELLENT tutorial - one of the best I've seen. I have dabbled in Suminigashi and had questions about the materials, all of which you answered in the first few minutes.

the "whiskers" is actually how Spanish Wave marbling is done, you wiggle the paper side to side as you place it down on the water. Suminagashi is actually how i practiced the technique before trying it on marbled papers.

a good introduction into this subject, simple easy to follow instructions, leads to amazing designs, only limited by your imagination. good to know there is a easy way to start with limited outlay in tools and ink to see if its a craft you really want to get into. just as it says in the title, an Easy How to for Beginners. thanks for sharing, cant wait to try it myself

Thanks for watching :) I haven't tried coloured inks to be honest so I wouldn't like to say - it seems it is difficult to tell what would and what wouldn't work without actually testing the particular ink. If you do try a coloured ink, please let us know how it goes!

How do you dry the paper without it all wrinkling up? I would like to make my own to use as end-papers in my own diy books. Thank you.
@RokoleeDIY4 жыл бұрын
Hi! I carefully iron them on low heat after they have dried :)
@fakiirification3 жыл бұрын
i stick my papers on my glass shower door after i rinse them. on the back, of course. The surface tension of the water is enough to hold them in place until they are almost dry, at which point i let them fall off naturally, then add to a stack between boards and a weight. blotter paper between each printed sheet just to make sure. let the results of a session sit under weight over night and you should have fairly flat paper with some slight waveiness. I often use marbled papers i make like this as endpapers and even covers for my books.

Is there better water solutions? My prints aren’t as vibrant in color, maybe that’s because of the paper?
@RokoleeDIY Жыл бұрын
Not sure without seeing the paper, and unfortunately they differ slightly between brands. Perhaps your paper is not as porous/absorbent?

Do you have a written list of the materials you are using. I am a French speaker and do not fully understand the names of some products you are using.
@RokoleeDIY4 ай бұрын
Sure! - Plain paper (rice, cotton, watercolour, construction or Kraft paper are best). It needs to be thick enough to not disintegrate in the water, and must be unsized and uncoated - don't use 'acid-free' paper. - Brushes with fine pointed tips - I used calligraphy brushes. - Some black ink; calligraphy dip pen ink is what I used. My acrylic ink didn't work for this. Sumi ink is designed for the purpose so would be the ideal choice. It needs to float on water, although 'Photo-Flo' is something you can add to your ink (just a drop) to help it float, but I haven't tried that. - Plastic tray or container at least 2" deep, slightly larger than the paper you want to use. - Cup - Washing-up liquid/dish soap - Strips of newspaper and a cocktail stick (optional) - Kitchen towel/paper towel - Water :D

interesting how you dont want distortion of the rings and you want it perfectly concentric. wouldnt it be cool to mess it up and marble it rather than just have circles?
@RokoleeDIY Жыл бұрын
Yeah true you could definitely do that...I just like the concentric circles as they look like the rings of a tree :)

merci pour le tuto , par contre je ne comprend pas . Dans bcp de tuto on parle de mettre de agent mouillant , il faut le mettre a quel moment ? Une fois que le papier est plein dancre il suffit de le laisser secher ?

Can I use normal paper and water color
@RokoleeDIY Жыл бұрын
Normal paper is fine, but watercolour would be a different effect - probably very pale. You can always try it though!

My sumi ink sinks to the bottom. What did I do wrong?

Hmm I'm not sure, sorry :( From Googling, it says to add the ink slowly and carefully, making sure to not push the brush too far into the water.

what about homemade ironed paper without additives
@RokoleeDIY4 жыл бұрын
I don't see why not; homemade paper should be very absorbent. The only worry I would have is if the resulting pattern would be sharp. If you do try it, please let me know how it went!

@@martavertechi1916 I used the Talens India Ink, my results were also kind of pale but they looked nice after some editing. I believe it is about the paper, now I bought some marbling paper so imma try that to see if I get better results
