If you want to use hardware acceleration on resolve you'll also need to install cuda, which you need to do separately from the driver installation in the driver manager on mint

*UPDATE* Some things have changed with Linux Mint and Nvidia drivers, and theres a bit more required nuance to this. If you want solely want to game with your nvidia geforce card, I'll be making an update to this video, hopefully in the next few weeks.

@@javiergonzalezrodriguez3308 This is still a serviceable video, but with the progress of the nvidia open source drivers, which are primarily for gaming, which is my understanding, I’d like to remake this video in the near future to explore the nuances and the straight up caveats of the evolving landscape of nvidia on Linux, well in this case, Linux Mint. For the most part, right now, its rather okay to use this method but if youre gaming you might want to look into the Nvidia mesa drivers… if you have anything newer than Turing.

Finally straight to the point on how to update the drivers. If I had to follow Nvidia's support page I'd be still reading their txt files. Thank you.

And this is why I made this video… Thanks for watching, I’m glad I could help. Also, if I youre using a Turing or newer Nvidia gpu for gaming, you might want to look into the NVK Nvidia/Vulkan driver

I used the manager the same way as in the video, I have a 1660 and when I restart my computer, the resolution becomes low, and the operating system does not allow me to change it. Does anyone know what it is? I'm using Linux Mint.

Hmm, you could do tty, but if you're doing a fresh install, maybe try POPos! and get the image with Nvidia drivers or Ubuntu 24.04 (whose image is supposed to be pretty big because of the included nvidia drivers as well). Mint should be coming out with a new version in a few months. What model/generation Nvidia GPU are you using? If it's a really old gpu, Nvidia may have stopped supporting it...

Yeah, unfortunately there are no additional drivers for my Geforce 360M card and I'm experiencing severe graphical glitches/crashes... Same happens on Kubuntu. Is there any other way to install the required driver?
@CompellingBytes Жыл бұрын
The Geforce 360m is a 13 year old gpu. A quick look on the Linux Mint forums shows that it was last supported in Linux Mint 20. If you really need this graphics chip to run with a more recent version of Linux Mint (for whatever reason that isn't immediately clear to me), you can try downloading the Linux 340.108 drivers from the nvidia site and see if you can install it. Considering this GPU is 13 years old, you should disable it in the machine's BIOS and use the igpu that presumably came with your system's cpu.
@mjrawesome3430 Жыл бұрын
@@CompellingBytes I tried both `apt install nvidia-340` and downloading/installing the driver (340.108) from Nvidia; for some reason linux wouldn't use that driver; it wouldn't appear under Additional Drivers in GUI; `lshw -c video | grep 'configuration'` showed that nouveau is still used; when I blacklisted nouveau and rebooted, the desktop environment wouldn't even load; perhaps if I had downloaded the nvidia drivers first, then blacklisted nouveau, then tried to install the nvidia driver via tty, I'd have gotten better results; The reasons to run newer versions of Linux seem pretty obvious to me - longer support (esp. security patches), newer/more features, etc. Anyway, Mint 20.0 seems to work fine; it allowed me to install the nvidia driver 340.108 through the GUI and I have no more graphical glitches; hopefully, some day, I figure out how to install the driver on newer versions as well; The laptop, Toshiba Qosmio, has i7-740QM (8GB DDR3 RAM) and it doesn't have an igpu; in terms of specs it's perfectly fine for internet browsing, youtube, light work, etc.;

In your scenario, did you have Secure Boot enabled? If so, did you have problems starting up?
@CompellingBytes Жыл бұрын
Generally, I keep Secure Boot off because it causes a lot of problems with Linux. You may be asking because you are looking to dual boot with Windows, and for me, I barely use WIndows and only use itreally for tasks that I know will only work on or will work much better on Windows, like BIOS flashing. Thanks for asking!

The World War 2 FPS game, 'Hell Let Loose' is back to crashing-to-desktop after 10 minutes in-game, any idea why it's doing this, CB? It was working perfectly before, but the devs patched the game and it's been crashing ever since.

I’m not familiar with that game, but there are lots of instances where games stop working on linux because of updates (I’ve wanted to play far cry games on linux for going on 2 years now) Keep an eye on protondb.com for a solution. If there isn’t anything there yet, and youre launching the game from Steam, try and switch to Proton Experimental (assuming this game is running through proton)

What is wrong with Chrome im not updated? Also driver 535 did top side of screen flickering, i have Rtx 4060Ti, i installed 545 and now it flickers only when i open Edge browser, can you help me solve a problem? I used cmd line to instal 545 from what linux itself listed, since driver manager was not helping with flickering
@CompellingBytes11 ай бұрын
I did a quick search and the issue can have a range of causes. Have you looked up the issue and investigated any of those diagnoses and their solutions? As for the top of the screen flickering when you installed the manager driver, I can't guarantee it's this, but it usually is an issue with your monitors refresh rate and/or a gsync/vsync issue. You should be able to see if gsync is enabled in the nvidia x server settings.
@ExistentialDawn11 ай бұрын
@@CompellingBytes yes i did enabled gsync, but it still caused flickering they were even more frequent than without it

I had the same problems as you, in both Chrome and Firefox. I just upgraded to Linux Mint Virginia (Version 21.3), and fingers crossed it seems to have stopped that issue. Does it work on mint on virtual box?
@CompellingBytes10 ай бұрын
I don't think there's a way to get passthrough to work on virtual box. Assuming your baremetal system is a Linux distro, you have to use KVM and QEMU to setup a vm for passthrough. You also have to check and see if your motherboard supports IOMMU and enable that in the bios before trying to passthrough. Also, iirc, you need two gpus, whether they are two discreet gpus or an igpu and a discrete gpu so that both the host/hypervisor and the virtual system has graphics.
