Isn't it funny what "taking holidays" turns into when you are living what you love? For the last 4 years my hubbie and I have "taken holidays" in northern Ontario building our cabin. We joked that we had to go back to civilization (and our jobs!) to take a break! All our hard work is about to pay off...we move in May to our offgrid cabin and begin building our homestead :) I will be raising Icelandic chickens to start ... and so it begins! Lol Loving your farm tours!

muskovies are actually their own species "Cairina moschata" not a hybrid species. all domestic duck breeds with the exception of the domesticated muskovies derived from the mallard "Anas platyrhynchos" while the muskovy derived from the wild muskovy.

Hi, loved your farm. Thanks for making this video. I wanna know how bad is your winter and how do you take care of them in winter???
@The10AcreWoods5 жыл бұрын
Hi Richie, the winter can get pretty cold, last winter - 40 to - 55. With the new shelter we built last year it makes it much easier. We are rebuilding the rabbit hutch soon as it was one of the first buildings we built. If you go back through our videos you will see how we deal with winter. 👍

Those bucks must not be feeling the heat cause they can be smelling very offensive if the females are in heat of course they always are kinda smelly but worse when mating time is near as the females love the stronger funk. ha,ha,ha. Mark did you know that some algae is healthy for some animals as it has nutrients. Carp and catfish are good algae eaters. I love to hear you narrate whenever you give talks about the farm, you keep the narration interesting and add some comedy to your content and the animals seem to really enjoy you. You got some fat rabbits. Rabbit poop is great fertilizer so use it. My friend raises them and goats. I like both as fertilizer but rabbit is much better even for my flowerbeds.
@The10AcreWoods5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the info Audrey, we knew about rabbit and goat but it seems our alpace poop is what people are after 💩🐐. As for Carl and Billy, I can smell them when getting out of my car a few hundred feet afay after work. 😁🐐
@audreyabdo77195 жыл бұрын
The 10 Acre Woods, never knew anyone that had alpacas, so I never had their crap for fertilizer. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was good. I don’t find rabbit manure offensive. A neighbor gave my son a rabbit and we started saving and using the manure and when my friend Sherri and her husband started growing livestock I was so happy to have the fertilizer from her homestead. I don’t trust bagged cow manure as the manure is mixed with chemically treated grasses sometimes and can damage some of your vegetables and plants. I must come visit one day and bring my granddaughter to see this after I plan it. She will be going to first grade and loves animals. We will plan it cause you’re a long ride from us and I don’t think she has a passport but I took her to the Cape last year and she loved it.

Do you wash the dead tree when tou get to give it to the rabbit?

No, it is natural, clean wood from our Forrest.

Foxes is plural here. But if there aeecarnivores in some numbers, wouldnt it be good to have some sort of a net on the perimeter?
@The10AcreWoods5 жыл бұрын
I walked the fence last night and realized that we only have a 3 wire electric fence on our east side and the foxes likely snuck under. Time to rework the fencing 🤔

How do you keep your rabbits from digging out or fighting each other

@oriongarbutt85935 жыл бұрын
Yeah my three females fight
@The10AcreWoods5 жыл бұрын
Most animals will fight for domanance, if they continuously fight then it's likely they need a little more space or more areas to hideout in. The recommend floor space is between 12 and 14 sq. ft. per rabbit. 3 rabbits should have approximately 40 square feet of floor area. Hope this helps.

hy, why is levi back on your farm? wasn't he rehomed? and why can't bobby go home?
@The10AcreWoods5 жыл бұрын
Levi had to come back because the field that was next door to the place he when to was no longer available due to a family dispute. Bobby has now been surrendered to us as his previous owners don't have proper fencing to keep them safe.

Emus wouldve sliced those coyotes up, they have a instinctual prey drive that makes them attack anything dog like and anything that looks like a eagle
@diniscastro90115 жыл бұрын
No, they dont have a prey drive. They are mainly herbívoros. They are simply agresive and territorial.
