Jim this video and the shade video are so welcome right now!!! I love how you and Steph took time with each plant and explained how they best perform and etc. I’m not sure if I have seen anyone else do this much in depth explanation with annuals. I think perennials get more attention or Proven Winners this and Proven Winners that get the spotlight. I Do love perennials and proven winners too but nice to get some information about these good ole flowers !!! They are worthy! 👍👍😊😊

The Flame Bidens are excellent annuals in containers. Take the heat like a champ and the colors blend well with marigolds. Can dig them out and treat them as houseplants during the winter. Bring them out after last frost similar to a tropical hibiscus 🌺

I really really love your channel, because I live in tropical Malaysia and there are hardly any videos on what pretty flowering plants we can grow here that does well on a commercial level(meaning I can buy it at the nursery), becuase of our weather we can't grow geraniums or petunias, unless u put them in the shade but then they don't Flower or drown from the harsh rains so makes no sense. Most of the plants u mention on ur channel actually does well for us, and I can finally have success! Thank you so much Please continue making videos you always inspire me to garden more for my pollinators

When we lived in North San Diego County, CA, we had about a 1/8 acre , 40 degree slope at the back of our property. We used portalaca as a ground cover and erossion preventative. We only had to have someone come in to weed once in the winter before the ground was completely covered. It's good stuff.

I love my vinca’s too Jim. Calibrachoa for me do amazing. Full sun, no dead heading. I just take my hand and rough the spent flowers right off the plant. Blue my mind , not blue daze. Oh, how I love this time of year here in southern Virginia. Thanks Jim 🌳🌳🌳🐕

great vids. I only like to plant pollinating attracting annuals too Do u know what pollinators love the most in my garden ? Seed grown single shorter dahlias - so easy to grow, flower for months. Also zinnias for the Monarch butterflies. have planted many of the plants you have there but the P's always stay on the dahlias. Wish we had a big beautiful nursery like that where I live ☺

I have some petunia containers mixes in my front flower bed. They have exploded in growth. Ive got two types proven winners supertunias and one of those purple spotted petunias that have taken up an entire pot itself. I do love the purple petunia scent. My front porch smells lovely. Lantana is awesome for annuals in zone 7. It’s one of the only flowers I’ve ever had that needed no work. They were beautiful last year. I had the red and yellow flowers. One of my favorites.

Petunias are somewhat perennial here in zone 8 A coastal southern Virginia. Snap dragons are perennial too. I planted vin a three or four years ago. They are not perennial but they re-seed.

I had some silver colored, purple throated petunias that formed a nice mat of sticky foliage through my zone 7 winter, and caught a bunch of little flying bugs that would get washed into the soil with the rain. Those things came back and spread throughout the garden bed and then one year just disappeared, sadly. Would love to get a hold of them again! I was born in coastal VA, right on second st in VA Beach! Haven't been there in decades. I miss the haunted houses and The Beatles museum, which have surely all gone the way of the 🦤.

You’ve shared many of my favorites in this video. I’ve planted a lot of these! Hoping the truffula pink gomphrena look as great in the landscape as they do in pictures. Mine are budded up. One salvia I planted is called salvia hummingbird forest fire (salvia coccinea). It reminds me of Stachy’s coccinea that I grew in Oklahoma. A hummingbird favorite! Are these the same species as the summer jewel salvia series?

Anyone knows what the name of the red salvia Jim is holding while talking about salvias? I don't think he gives the name in the video. Also wanted to mention that I just got some hydrangeas from Plants by mail. Best price for the size, and plants look great. Very happy. Thanks for the recommendation, Jim.

Lantana stinks!! That said, I’ll use them in the right space (hell strip, near parking, where dogs pee). Nice that my winter kills it.

QUESTION SUNDAY-Hey, Jim…BIG FAN 👍 I live in 7a, approx. doz. miles outside of DC. I have a Chinese Fringe tree, which went into the ground early last spring. Has put on spectacular growth. Single 6’ trunk w/ 2 main leaders, now approx. 8-10” long, w/ 4 or 5 secondary branches extending 2-3’ upward (or were!) I did not know how to prune it to tree-form train, but before I could determine how, several days of heavy rain last week, followed by explosive blooming, forced the branches downward, giving it a willow-like shape. Beautiful…but not quite what I had in mind/don’t know if it would take healthy weeping shape, when mature. Where can I prune these bowing branches, after blossoms drop, to regain/encourage erect growth?! Your feedback would really be appreciated! Kurt…will try to send pics. 👌
