Hi, I’m a wannabe marine biologist and I swim a lot all year long. My advice before swimming (in a pool or in the sea) is to put coconut oil in your hair and braid it. You will have to wash it after but a gentle shampoo or a co-wash is usually ok to use as long as you don’t put oil on your scalp. I generally use Godiva by lush and it works like a charm. This way if you’re at the beach all day and you can’t rinse your hair it’s still going to be protected for a long time because coconut oil is not water soluble. Also because of this you are not releasing almost anything in the sea water, so you’re not polluting the environment with chemicals which might be dangerous for wildlife.

I have been swimming regularly in a chlorine pool for over a year at least 3 times a week. My hair got damaged at first but I found that if I wet my hair, put in some coconut oil/leave-in conditioner, and wear a swimming cap it really protected my hair and kept it healthy. I hope this helps.

Not a good summary. Forgot about applying uv protection every 45 minutes or just wear sun hat. For pools: first wet the hair with tap water, then put in cheap leave in conditioner, then swimming pool, then again tap water and cheap leave in conditioner. If the hair is already dry, do only co-washing with conditioner (skip the shampoo). Only use shampoo if there is oil on your hair

As a competitive swimmer, I’ve learned we’re not supposed to use leave-in conditioner in the pool. Chemicals can mess with the pool’s PH levels. And unfortunately - the leave-in conditioner rinses out of your hair in the water. Others may accidentally invest or taste your hair products. This is why it’s required to shower or rinse before getting in the pool. Getting your hair wet with fresh water first is my go-to! I also use vitamin C powder as a rinse to neutralize chlorine after. Otherwise, as a fellow Floridian who struggles with summer hair care, I loved all the other phenomenal advice!

I have experienced hairs turning white after extended sun exposure, and the cause was a bad sunburn on my scalp. After that, the white hairs grow in a few patches of maybe 5-10 hairs along my part line. I do also have random white hairs throughout, but the concentrated groups of white were from the sunburn.

I‘ve always taken it for granted that hair is damaged after vacation on the beach or the pool. What i‘ve taken out of this video (for my life) is: Do a hair mask before i go on a trip. Only take conditioner with me, no shampoo needed during a one-week-trip. If the beach provides a shower, take the offer and rinse my hair, after getting out of the sea. Always wear my sun hat, when i walk around on a sightseeing tour. Thank you, Chris, for these tips to protect my hair. ❤

I also stay out of pools, haven’t been in one since I was a child. Nor do I go in any nasty lake water. People pollute so much in our lakes and oceans. It’s not worth it and I can have fun in other ways. However swim caps are the best option for those who do want to swim and still protect their hair. I love being out in the sun but I don’t really like hats so I just try to find some shade instead. What I do to protect my hair from the elements the most is wear my hair in protective styles like braids or twists. This keeps the moisture in for weeks until I’m ready to let it down again. It also protects my strands from breakage.

From someone who grew up on the beach and summer all year long in Rio de Janeiro: Kerastase has a Soleil Line (red packaging), which the spray is a great protection for beach/pool hair. Just wet it with clean water before spraying. If you live in Europe, try Swimcap from Philip Kingsley. This one is a cream to be applied before sun exposure. Guaranteed healthy hair, if followed by Chris guidance. I never had movie star red carpet hair on a daily basis before. Chris is gifted.

@@Angela303Lee first of all, welcome to the club :) for everyday hair care routine I use the products for fine hair from the recommended list (below every video on this channel) - Redken shampoo, conditioner, leave-in conditioner and Olaplex oil. There are some other tricks when it comes to diving, although. Like, it’s better to dive on the washing day, when your hair is already oily. Also, I apply coconut oil to my hair before every dive - it’s nature friendly and smells good. Of course, the best way to avoid entanglement is to wear a hood. I know many new divers are not fond of hoods, but believe me, it works better than any hairband or mask strap. After dive I rinse my hair with fresh water the second I’m done with my gear and apply a bit of hair mask. And later that day I wash it as usual. Good luck with your diving journey!

It may sound dumb, but being new to the whole not-washing-everyday wagon I still get confused with the number of days. Which would be consider day 1 and which would be day 4? For example, if you wash you hair on Monday, would Friday be day 4 or day 5? Sorry for the silly question 😅 Thanks for the video! Going on vacation soon and it was super helpful! 🥰
@clairedaniels1877 Жыл бұрын
I don’t think he counts like that. It’s about how many days you can go without washing. Fine hair can go 3 days, medium 4 days and coarse 7 days. You can go an extra day if using dry shampoo.
@maydaygarden Жыл бұрын
Start counting the day AFTER you wash your hair. So after Mondays wash, Friday would be day 4. Be mindful of the products you are using between washings. I have long, thin, naturally blond hair and I go a week between washings. In Summer I use common sense and wash it more often considering leave-in conditioners, spf protection, salt water and pool water it's exposed to. At the beach, I use a bottle of water to rinse my hair while it's still damp. ☀️😎 👒
@meatysheep Жыл бұрын
I count like this: Hair washed on Monday morning, so Thuesday morning would be 1 day, Wednesday morning 2 days etc. And sometimes I cheat a lil so I would count Wednesday evening as 3 days and wash it lol (I have fine hair and grown out untouched roots and they tend to oil way faster than colored hair. When I had bleached hair I could go way longer without washing it)

Also, the shampoo and conditioners you use really do play a huge difference! i’ve recently started using the moroccanoil moisture repair shampoo and conditioner (recommended by the blowout professor for the thick coily hair type) and within two weeks my hairs already been looking and feeling so much better. and he has a ton of videos with product recommendations when it comes to that stuff! i notice my curls also look so amazing after being in the ocean or in chlorine, i can only imagine it’s because your hairs so clarified from all oils and stuff, but i’m not completely sure.
