I have a bit of a strange problem, I'm in Pittsburgh, PA and I have zoysia grass taking over my lawn. The stuff doesn't green up until mid-June and it turns brown in late September, but it looks great when it's actually green. I appreciate that it crowds out weeds where it grows but it looks like garbage for 8+ months of the year.

If you have a small enough yard and no irrigation, invest in a multi-zone, multi program water timer. 50 bucks at lowes (Melnor brand). I set mine to run four times in the afternoon for 4 minutes each Zone. Each zone can be programmed separately. My fescue survived amazingly in 100 degree temperatures for a week.

This was the first friday I just didnt mow in northern Illinois. The lawn showed signs of checking out, I hadn't watered, and it wasnt flopping over. To mow was just giving weeds the advantage. Abiding by the tuna can rules and only watering. Since I have more time on my hands in this heat I sat inside this week and created my own property map. Did you know you can measure your lot without a tapemeasure? Simply go to Google Earth, plug in your address and there is a measure icon at bottom left that will allow you to select a section or zone. It has a cool feature that gives you the square feet of the section. It's approximate but it would be anyway. It's kinda cool and creepy at the same time. Saved the image and now I'm armed with valuable information for watering, ferts and whatever else needs my attention. Signed Obsessed KY Lawn Lady!

Here in NY ... nutsedge and crabgrass has shown its ugly head when 1 month ago my lawn looked like a golf course. I never put my july 4th app of milo down (was on vaca) can I put weed killer down when lawn temps are above 90? I'm so very afraid!!!! Dont want to destroy the lawn

Cousins Transportation Worldwide I’m in NY too. Specifically Long Island. I would definitely wait for any weed killer app until after the heat wave. I was going to mow tonight but forget it. I listen to LCN lmao

Hey I got a question I live I Arizona and have a pretty nice lawn thanks to you lol but my question is it's hot as hell here and I've been watering 2× a day I dont have a water bill or restrictions is it ok to keep watering that much and if you think it is I can do more as well and I do have I inground irrigation
@Thelawncarenut
@Thelawncarenut 5 жыл бұрын
It's best to let the lawn take a little stress here and there. However, where you are, watering 2x a day may be your only choice. Also you may consider changing to a grass that likes more heat.

Hi i put down some disease ex and milorganite and my grass seemed to turn very dark green and was looking really nice but recently I have noticed that something else is growing in my St Augustine grass it almost looks the same but isn’t and on the other side of my house my grass is getting mixed with my neighbors grass which is a very thin grass how do I prevent my neighbors grass from spreading in mine and how could I prevent other grass growing in my grass.

Maybe I missed it in the cool season guide but if you plan to aerate and seed in the fall should we be taking the HOC down too so we don't have to cut until the seed is well established if so how much lower or do you just go ahead and mow as necessary anyway?
@Thelawncarenut
@Thelawncarenut 5 жыл бұрын
you can take it down a little if you want but the real key is to poke as many holes as possible with the aerator.

"I Can't Water my Lawn". I do not have enough water available at my rural house to do that. The only time I water is when I seed and I use water from a pail from the roof.

if it is cool season grass then wait until soil temps are falling to 70F - then seed

Hey Allyn l mowed on Tuesday and noticed for the first time this year Rust so Thursday l put down an app of Scott's Disease-X followed by an app of spray fungicide we had a couple of down pours( l have no irrigation) so I'm hoping it washed in apps in but my temps been in the 90s will l be good ?
@Thelawncarenut
@Thelawncarenut 5 жыл бұрын
Rust should stop at higher temps. Airflow is key and catch clippings when you mow, wash equipment and hope for the best.

Great advice! Still, I use all EGO tools, no gas, no oil, other than the chainsaw and pole saw for the bar chain. Works great for my lawn, quiet and no fumes. Keep up the great work and information! :)

@@popeyeyankee5477 Yes..were talking nightime watering...I believe its kind of a myth though because I used to water areas of my lawn at night time to get the runners to spread and fill in and I wouldnt get any kind of fungus..granted this was before the heat of the summer when its hot and humid..mayhe thats why.

When I would get off of work around 4ish I would just do a sprinkle over the lawn if theres signs of heat stress to cool it down..keep it moist not wet.
