So nice to see you again Sue, with another reaction to ABBA songs and specially for doing my request from yesterday "Summer night city" (1978) was composed to pay homage to its capital city Stockholm hence are the images ofl the official ABBA videos (only exception: "Chiquitita" in the Alpine area of ​​Switzerland) the musical rhythm is influenced by the success of BEE GEES with the soundtrack of the film "Saturday Night Fever" Unfortunately they did not include it in the compilation album "ABBA Gold" (1992) and its composers Björn & Benny were never satisfied with the final arrangement, they had other options, live they did it with a slow intro and a vibrant ending like these in the TV special "Dick Cavett meets ABBA" (1981) that is fantastic but also in the 1979 Tour is more fantastic too! Apparently they were pressured by the record company to release a single, and ABBA was never satisfied with the one they released in the recording studio, which they say took approximately 50 attempts to achieve a definitive one. And I agree with you, the song is great, what happens is that ABBA is very perfectionist and they demand a lot from themselves "Summer night city" is so good, even in the studio version (with a great official video, made almost in real time, a disco night and a sunrise in the city), that it seems unfair to me that it is not part of the colossal GOLD compilation album (and it's the only one of ABBA's Top 10 singles that's not there) But they always continued to perform it, and it is even on the setlist of the new Voyage Concerts at the new ABBA Arena in London UK It's always a pleasure to see you, I hope to see you soon with more ABBA

Love the song and the reaction Sue! I recently watched the show with ABBA and Cavett, really like him too - just felt it should have been longer. Fun that they flew him in to Stockholm for a 20 minute chat, but they seemed to have had fun a few hours previous and hit it off. 😄 A lot of banter going on between the guys. ABBA, Cavett, Sue and Dala horses - I am happy! 💞

Hi Sue, I'm a big ABBA fan & saw them play live in London on two occasions. For some reason, they left it off their Voulez Vous album, which it would have fitted very well. I've not seen the show at the ABBA Arena yet, but hope to do before the end of the year.

Thanks Sue, another great reaction😊 I know that some of the "live" performances must have been lip-synced. Many TV performances were at the time. But with ABBA how can you tell? They always sound so good! I suspect that this might be lip synced as it sounds so like the studio version but they are always perfectly in sync! I wonder if possibly they sang live to a backing track? This sounds like more than just the 4 of them. Whatever they did it was brilliant.

They are more than 4 on stage as seen in the video. Looks like at least 3 backing singers, just as it were on the stage at wembley 1979. But you are right in that most of the ”live videos” arent live I think this one is though

Hi Andrew, you are right it is hard to tell with Abba because they sing so well live there isn't much difference from studio version. Since they had the whole band and back up singers, I think it was live. I have seen them do live performances before but they are lip syncing and they don't have a whole band when they do lip sync but it is so hard to tell...just shows how talented they are that we are even having this conversation 😀🧡

As I have not spotted where lip sync failed I thought it would be easier for them to have sung live to a backing track. Benny certainly had created backing tracks. I think the ladies might have felt it cheating to lip sync.

... Hey Sue, you're gonna be in big trouble with Chelsea for not doing this ABBA reaction with her.😅.. Cool song, and great live performance of it .. In fact, you should watch the whole concert from the Dick Cavett Show ( 1981 ) .. It was ABBA's last one, and they were in top form .. Plus the audio and visual quality is excellent .. There's 9 songs, including a few of their hidden gems like "Me and I".

Haha I just might be but sometimes you just have to do some Abba when the feeling takes you over lol. I think she will forgive me haha. I will check out more songs from that show for sure and perhaps react to some of them as well. This was a terrific forum to see them in....live but still so intimate. I adored this performance. The slow part at the end and the rockin' ending that doesn't appear on the official video version of his song is absolutely cool. Loved this version. Thanks for the heads up on this one, Wayne.
