So glad the narrative is beginning to change. My brother complain to me yesterday that himself and his wife had misunderstanding he then slapped her and she went to the police they got him arrested beat the hell out him,he paid money to bail himself so he doesn't want her again. My response to him was good for you because I've been telling him time without number stop beating her. I promise him next I'll be the one to pay the police to beat you.

@@chykedoc space here would fail me to elucidate on the whole idea. Just know that a man and woman become one in marriage. If a man cannot hurt himself, why should he hurt his wife? If a man cannot condone being slapped, why would he do same to his beloved (who is also himself)? Is the woman a kid that needs the rod (slap in his case) to be corrected? If marriage is to be as ordained by God, it therefore means that man is to love his wife as Christ loves the church. Has it been mentioned anywhere that Christ corrects His church by slaps? Think in this line and you would see my drift.

Agree with you Summer, African parents should raise their daughters to be financially secure, and not just raised them to be good wives. Gone are those days when ladies depend on their husbands for everything which is why our mothers tolerated so much abuse in marriage. Mothers need to expose/enlightened their daughters to different options most importantly, making their own money. Because that is the only power some men have over their wives. Some of these arrogant men will go as far as saying, I pay the rent and provide money for groceries, and clothes for you and the kid. So, therefore, I can send you packing anything I want. When women make their own money no matter how little it is, as long as you are not being stupid of opening the same account with your man, he will be scared to treat you like shit because he knows he does not have any hold on you. You can fly like an eagle if he decides to be stupid.

We as women have to demand respect from the men we choose to marry and only then can we have the right foundation to raise healthy kids. Men need firm hands and lessons on how to treat and respect women. We women as so special as we are given the gift of birthing children. No man should ever think himself superior to a woman and women need to demand love and respect or stay single.

Wow. Indeed it's a testimony for the police to follow her ooo. When I reported my husband to the police 2 years ago, they said at first it was husband and wife issue that they don't interfere but as I told them not to worry that I will take it to human right, they then called my husband and talked sense into him. I pray they put it in our constitution that wife battering is prohibited and against the lwa

I have always wondered why in most Nigerian movies people just slap each other like it's nothing. I even noticed even in real life people just slap each other. Am glad this wife got him arrested. You can't be slapping people and think that's okay.

There is a Nigerian comedy that promotes it i.e. "slapping" and it has many subscribers who laugh at the violence. It goes to show the animalistic level of said community and their subscribers who find violence to be amusing/laughed at.

Our cultures has a way of making the woman like a commodity. When I wanted to marry my wife, I determined that I will not be pricing her bride price and I did that but her family made things so difficult for me and one of my friends said that's why no man will go through this and tolerate misbehavior. I did not have this traditional mind set that's why I still have great value for my wife and I can't imagine raising my hand against her.

It is important to note that in India it is women who pay expensive 'groom price' and yet it is still the husbands who are oppressing and maltreating their wives also they hate having daughters because they don't want to pay the groom prices. The Indian women do not treat their husbands like they purchased them so Nigerian men can do better regardless of how expensive the brideprice is. Some tribes in Nigeria don't even collect the brideprice and the men still batter them. Abuse is never the answer, whether it be from the husband or the wife.

@@joycats4768 I understand perfectly the point you are trying to make but I still want to believe that in Nigeria most especially a woman is treated as if she's a property. thats just the truth and that is how men build their mindset just like you see in this issue. He felt she is not a "WIFE MATERIAL" because of her response which to me she is exercising her rights. I don't know the mindset around Indians. And I also want to tell you that I have a friend who is going through terrible maltreatment from His wife because she looked down on him just like the way most men do to their wives. I encouraged him to get out of that marriage.

@@nanlesamuel5303 Abuse is not good for anyone, be it men, women or especially the children who are always stuck there enduring and learning wrong things that will later affect their lives negatively when they also later get into relationships/marriage, so it becomes a generational plague. If Nigerians put even half of the amount of energy and dedication that they put into marriage matters especially making judgements on marriages of others that don't concern them into making sure the country has a good government and life improvement systems in place, Nigeria would be a world class enviable country today. The point I was trying to make is that men in Nigeria should not treat wives like property, period! People in marriages and relationships should stop using excuses of bride price, religion, lack of money, being physically stronger etc to maltreat their partners. Men in general should treat the women around them like they would want someone else to treat the mother that gave birth to them whom they love (married or not). Also women treat men well too. Nigeria needs to wake up and be progressive for its people, life is moving on with or without it.

@@joycats4768 I agree with you 100%. I believe we are missing the values we have for each other. I hate it for a very long time when I see abuse in any way. And as you rightly said, the psychological effect on the children is terrible. I have been a victim as I watched my dad do that to my mom. My Father never raised his hand on my mom but I was devastated at the verbal abuse he always rain on her to the point that she will be weeping almost all through the night. That experience make me hate to see most especially my wife in that position. I remember one night I had argument with my wife and I might have said something that hurt her and she wanted to start crying. I didn't know when I just rushed and hug her and then started apologizing because I hate putting someone through that kind of pain my mom experienced. I was so very angry when I had of Osinachi's case. Infact I wish there's something I could do about it because I took it personal even though I have never seen her

@@nanlesamuel5303 Sorry to hear about what you went through and it is not a small thing that in spite of it all you still grew up with so much empathy & care which you are now using positively in your family because it often ends up that the majority of children become receivers or participants of the exact behaviours that they observed at home whether it is negative or positive. It's like we forget that children also get raised by what they observe wherever they are, whether you want them to learn it or not. People wonder why younger and younger children are now interested in how to make money fast but the children observe a system around them with little or no accountability from the government to the citizens and see how they still get respected just because they have all this ill-gotten wealth, so they also want the same thing and yet people act shocked and want to shame the children when the children are just acting out what they see like a mirror reflection of the soceity they are in.

Let them go out see a woman that insulted him and slap her. It’s their right to beat wife not child ooo and adult, he is her father. Men never see anything this is just the beginning. Marriage should be cancelled no more marriage at all. I like the post😂😂

If the house belong to the woman, he would set it on fire with her in it. Men are displaying unbelievable evil these days. Men like this don't like it when their wife is empowered. Our mothers endured it not because they enjoyed it but because most of them where not financially empowered. They can't even own land or property either in their father's house or their husband especially in Igboland. Summer you're right, women don suffer for Niaja and Africa no be small
