Here's my take on recorded live at Mr. Vain.
'Summertime' was written in 1934 for the Gershwins' trailblazing opera 'Porgy and Bess'. It soon became a popular jazz standard, with recordings by Billie Holiday, Bing Crosby, Mildred Bailey, Al Hibbler, Ethel Waters, Dinah Shore, Sarah Vaughan, Jane Powell, Perry Como, Dinah Washington, Chris Connor, Dakota Staton, Lena Horne, Ray Charles, Gordon MacRae, Helen Merrill, Nina Simone, Dave Lambert, Jon Hendricks, and Annie Ross, Pearl Bailey, Joe Williams, Shirley Horn, and Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald, among many others.
