1 - 2 is an underground level with a few precise jumps, but thanks to the frame rule system, you could actually afford to slow down a little bit and not lose any time. At the end, you use the warp zone to go to World 4. 4 - 1 is really easy, you just run through and beat the level. 4 -2, you need to take an aboveground warp pipe to go to World 8. this world is where the run gets really really brutal. 8 - 1 is the longest level in the game, and it features some of the toughest jumps in the entire run. 8 - 2 is another long level, with Koopas that could spawn in different positions that can trip you up. 8 - 3 is filled top to bottom with Hammer Bros and their patterns can sometimes kill you no matter what you do. Finally the last level, 8 - 4, features it all: brutal jumps, a precise water section, Hammer Brothers, and of course, Bowser at the end. The first run that we're gonna look at is Scott Kessler's 5:10, which he achieved back in April 2004. This run was riddled with imperfections, but it didn't matter to most. Back in 2004, speedrunning was a fraction of the size of what it is today, so minor mistakes were largely overlooked. The fact that Kessler was able to beat this 20-year-old game with such precision and skill boggled the mind of so many. One thing to note is that, back when this run came out, it was believed that hitting the top versus the bottom of the flagpole didn't matter, since either way, the flag would have to slide from the top to the bottom (keep this in mind for later). Months passed and another runner came out of nowhere to challenge Kessler, Trevor Seguin. Seguin and Kessler took turns lowering the record from 5:10 to 5:07, then to 5:06. This 5:06 stood for a couple of years, and in that time, four players were able to tie it, including a 16-year-old under the username andrewg1990. Finally though, [in] September 2006, Scott Kessler achieved a 5:05, which in the opinion of most runners (at/of) the time, seemed to be [a] 🅿️retty much 🅿️erfect run, and from watching the run, it's clear why so many people thought this. Most difficult sections were executed beautifully, and there weren't any visible mistakes. So, a 5:05 seemed to be the end of the line for _Super Mario Bros._, unless some major new strategies were discovered, and that's exactly what andrewg did. Since andrewg was just one second away from the record, he set out to find as many new strategies as he could. The first one was the decision to stop having _Super Mario Bros._ be a glitchless run. There were a couple of known glitches in 8-4 that could save about a second and a half total. The first one was a walljump off of a pipe, which required both a pixel-perfect and frame-perfect input, and the second one was a wrongwarp with this pipe. Because _Super Mario Bros._ only had the capability to load one warp zone at a time, once you passed a certain point on the screen, the game would load the water section.

Using Marionaire's TAS, it is theorized you can exit the Minus World and warp to World 8, skipping World 4 in speedruns, saving 10-20 seconds. Then, it is discovered you can warp to World 8-4, saving a lot of time, and you can even warp to the final stage of World 8-4 while in the Minus World, causing Super Mario Bros. to be beaten in 1 minute and 45 seconds. This speedrun strat is not used because Marionaire got terminated and the tricks are way too precise for a human to replicate. However, in the 2030's and 2040's, maybe, this trick could be used. This TAS was used in Super Mario Bros. 3 to access the code, it was used in Super Mario World to access the Pong, Snake, and Chess minigames, it was used in Super Mario 64 to access beta content, and it was used in several other games to access cool things, like a chat in a 16-bit offline game, but with different inputs. Each of these TASes have the capability to load the end credits right away, saving lots of time for speedrunners. However, most of these credit warps are way too swag for a human to replicate, except for the one in Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World. Also, Marionaire was the one that created the Create Account, with a TAS that involves starting the game on a specific frame, stomping on a specific number of enemies, finishing each level on a specific framerule, and warping to the Minus World. In the Minus World, Mario must slow down at specific points in the level to manipulate his subpixel position and touch the 7 invisible platforms in the Minus World for exactly 1 frame. Then, after the last platform is pressed, the game glitches out and crashes, going back to the title screen. Then, you must mash the Konami code buttons in frame-perfect inputs and then you can create a Super Mario Bros. account. Creating an account allows you to connect with friends, sync your highscores, and perform speedruns without using a timer. After you create an account, you have to play World 0, dubbed as "Tutorial World" once before playing World 1, and after beating the game, you can go to freeplay mode and explore all 32 areas, and here's what you can find: A yellow flag with a Goomba on it to represent a Goomba the Quick race, similar to Super Mario 64's Koopa the Quick race in world 1-1 An emotionless sprite of a Goomba in world 1-2 A rainbow track above every Coin Heavens level similar to Mario Kart's Rainbow Road Monty Moles in world 4-1, 6-1, and C-1, possibly designed to jump at players at random times from the ground Pachyderm from Yoshi's Island following you with a stop sign, preventing you from going backwards. If you remove him using a TAS, you could go backwards. Bowser's Castle in world 8-4, includes Bowser's bedroom, dressing room, bathroom, kitchen, dining room, food court, an entertainment room with pool tables, table tennis, an arcade and casino, a bar and nightclub, a recreation room with a gym, bowling alley, spa, and indoor pool, a conservatory, a library, a movie theater, and when you look outside, you can find an outdoor waterpark with 2 swimming pools, a hot tub, 2 waterslides, an outdoor cinema, a wavepool, a Flowrider surf simulator, a kiddie splash zone, as well as a mini golf course, tennis courts, a basketball court, beach volleyball courts, a soccer field, a playground, and a flat area where the Koopalings can play around. There even is an underground lair filled with weapons, magic potions by Kamek, a Bro character club, also known as a fraternity, and everything Bowser has stolen from the Mushroom Kingdom, including money, jewelry, rare electronics, and priceless artifacts along with a garage with supercars like Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Aston Martins, Bugattis, and even a hangar with private planes, all stolen by the Koopa Troop. There is also a secret mission for Mario to return every stolen item back to its rightful owners after beating the game, as after Bowser turned the Mushroom Kingdom residents into blocks, he decided to steal every valuable item they own and build his castle full of luxurious items. A flock of geese, Luigi holding balloons, a hot-air balloon, an island with a single mystery box and a cannon with coin rings in the sky, and a subway system, a room with a Toad, possibly Mario's underground house, a cave with Dorrie, and an underwater section underground. A door in World 4-2 right above the beanstalk, leading to the warp zone.

I'm really looking forward to a new video from you about Super Mario Bros 1!!! Here is an idea for another video as well. Can you make a world record progression for the TAS world record in Super Mario Bros 1? I have no idea how the TAS record is programmed. How did they find out what input should be used for the flagpole glitch, bullet bill glitch or a wallclip? What is that input anyway? When I look at a flagpole glitch I hear a lot of buttons being pressed, but I have no idea what runners do at that point. Another idea is to make a video about the progression of Kosmicd12 only, because what he did is amazing!

@AlbertTheGamer-gk7sn Жыл бұрын
If you earn money from your records, you have to keep working hard on breaking more records finding new strats, or you may not make rent for the year. However, it is also fun, and when you get the record, you will certainly feel that your hard work had paid off. This is what the Triumvirate had been doing since 2006, but AndrewG's computer is broken, so he cannot stream anymore. Because of that, his income had dropped, and he is no longer meeting his other triumvirate members adika23560 and Marionaire for years. It is sad that his computer will take 2-3 years to fix, and he will have to cope with a humble, low-income lifestyle until his computer gets fixed, even if that means selling his expensive stuff and fancy speedrunning things to make rent. I hope after his computer gets fixed and he starts speedrunning again, the Triumvirate will reunite and the income can go back through the roof once again, causing AndrewG to buy back the things he sold, and this time, his computer will never break, and the Triumvirate will speedrun through the decades, earning more and more money in the journey, racking up to millions of dollars. Then, the Triumvirate will retire from speedrunning, and they will play casually and explain the glitches they found, and Mastermind will have lots of movies available. It will keep like this way until AndrewG's computer from 2006 finally breaks and it couldn't be fixed, and slowly, adika23560 and Marionaire will get sick and die before AndrewG, leaving him time to write his autobiographies before he goes to heaven at age 95 in 2085, with a long legacy. Outdated info: Andrew G discovered the backward bump, but also legitimately did a wall clip that pushed Mario to the right and not the screen Corrections: * 1-1 can be difficult to perfectly speedrun despite the lack of area, as the underground section is especially hard to do *4-2 is much less simpler than you make it sound. this level makes or shatters your speedrun *there is no unpredictable random pattern for the koopas on 8-1 or 8-3 (which is much simpler than you make it seem, but still hard), as world record holders can manipulate this pattern by waiting a certain time at the title screen and stomping certain koopas at 8-3. This allows them to know the Hammer Brother pattern at 8-3, and the bullet bill comes early as possible allowing them to do a really crazy glitch that saves a frame rule alone. *the beginning up until the last pipe exit of 8-4 is actually very simple, there's a misplaced reset function that allows Mario to enter the second pipe no matter where its Phiranna plant is, and one isn't existent in the first pipe. The third pipe takes some timing, and the the underwater section starting at the fourth pipe is the only hard part, and getting past Bowser depends on his hammer pattern, which is essentially luck * the narrow pipe jumps aren't even necessary, as the pipes could be cleared in a single bound by beginners who know how to run. *Even if the warp zones are reached, things can go horribly wrong during these special rooms. one could miss a jump timing and waste their run. * The game loss rips based off the screens position, otherwise the wrong wassup would be impossible. Also Andrew g didn't discover the wrong warp, but discovered really fast ways to make the 4-2 wrong warp efficient as possible

4-2 doesn't "make or break your speedrun". For just about anybody other than the top two or three runners, 4-2 is one of the easier levels in the run with a bit of practice as you're only going for the standard three bump 375 framerule when doing it optimally

The only criticism i can level at this video (And the mike tyson one as well) is that your mic quality is pretty low. Other than that, I've absolutely loved both of these videos. Your presentation is super clean, but you manage to convey the excitement of people showing greater and greater mastery of a game. I really hope you find the time to put a couple more of these videos together.
