This guy has to be under a lot of pressure due to his lineage. So, far he's handling it like a champion.

Congrats to Ozeki Kotonowaka! I watched a documentary of the very young Kotonowaka, ever since that I became a fan. Don't put too much pressure on him, let him do his own sumo, as many wise men said that "success is 30% talent+luck, 70% mental", to strive for Yokozuna, one needs to be ultra strong mentally. I love Kotonowaka's cool, calm & collective style. 加油!

Love his mental preparation. The way he makes a fierce face and curls up his arms reminds me of the "Stay-puff marshmallow man" in Ghostbusters. I called him "double-boobs" at first, but now I'm a fan. Especially since that heel Hoshoryu is Ozeki -- I don't want him to get Yokozuna.

Stay tuned for the next chapter; Does Koto turns Heel and Hoshoryu(???) goes the route of the white knight? Tune in to the next episode of How the Dohyo cracks. Haha I agree completely. Quattro Tetas was the favored nickname i found amusing. Next hopefully everyone will call him Yokozuna.

It's going to be a hard uphill fight for him to hit yokozuna, although you could really say about any Ozeki in general, But I suspect Kotonowaka to keep the rank of Ozeki this year. As long as there are no major injuries things look promising for there to be a new yokozuna soon

I was rooting for Kotonowaka in the January Tournament and I'll be cheering for him again in the Haru Basho. I've been saying for a while that it's only a matter of time before Kotonowaka makes Ozeki and I maintain he's going to grow into a solid Yokozuna. He looked like he was still awed by Terunofuji in Tokyo but at some point that's going to pass and when it does he's going to be hard to stop.

Kototebakari is big up and coming wrestler! His shiko is unbelievable!
@LauraJdogmom11 ай бұрын
He does have a great shiko. If he makes it to Makuuchi, and if Kotoshoho can stay there, we'll have another pair of brothers in the top division. At Ms6, he is well positioned to advance to Juryo in May. A 7-0 would get him there. A 6-1 might. Any kachi-koshi would move him closer.
@robiny188411 ай бұрын
Kotonowaka is living embodiment of the protagonist (or villain) MC in anime/manga, the boy who need to keep continue sumo lifestyle due his lineage. Imagine the pressure he has since a child, but at least now he already become an ozeki, just one step away to reach his Grandpa's status as Yokozuna, one step but the hardest step. And I love the fact that Hoshoryu is like his rival, they both are same age and similar background as well and both are ozeki, Hoshoryu living under his uncle Yokozuna shadow (Asashoryu). I like both of them compete against each other, along with Hakuoho, the new prodigy under the great Yokozuna (Hakuho)'s care.

The weakest men often given undeserved power always become bullies. Hakuseiho was crappy rikishi but given power to exercise his sadism. See how this works?
@MrShoryuken111 ай бұрын
I suspect Terunofuji will be too strong if he comes into the tournament healthy, but Kotonowaka is definitely a close second.
@LauraJdogmom11 ай бұрын
I tend to agree. I don't believe that any of our recently promoted Ozeki has ever beaten Teru. Takakeisho has, but he can't stay healthy enough to put together two yusho in a row, and he is again kadoban due to injury. Daieisho has a decent record against Teru, but he can't quite get over the hump to get an Ozeki promotion, Wakamotoharu can't quite get there either. Kotonowaka has the talent and the mindset to reach Yokozuna, and he is young and steadily improving. He's got to be able to beat the Kaiju, though.

Could there be such a thing in another country, a Stable of Sumo? What I mean is, as an example, Canada has a Stable in some big city where they train non-Japanese who want to train and wrestle in Japan one day when called, when promoted by whomever makes those calls. Sumo should be a world wide discipline, if it already is my apologies I am a new fan. Congratulations to this young man for the effort he has put in to get here 🙏.
