Nice sump build. Lots of head room for pump off conditions. Tell the wife you were cleaning, they love that lol

Did you leave it soft to hard plumbed in the tank? I can’t quite figure out how to get to hard plumb mine. Thanks

I tend to use external pumps to keep the heat out of the tanks which in turn runs the chiller less on my 350gallon tall. I use Pan World 200ps for return and Iwaki for the chiller. They are much higher wattage though but they are not sitting in the water. Have you compared a good external to these? My pumps never shut down 10+ years no issues. The weak spot in my tanks have been electronics, anything computerized can LOCK up, freeze or just go bad. What happens if the electronics freeze up? does the pump just go to 100 percent or does it shut down?

What's your opinion on this pump after a year of use. I'm building a 230 gal reef and was looking toward this pump.

Hello, so far the pump is still running strong. I have cleaned it 2 times since I put it in with a vinager bath. My only concern is the nuts that the head housing bolts thread into. They look like they were heat pressed into the housing to keep the front on which houses the prop. I have noticed what looks like some rust. I wish they were stainless steel..if they are they don't look it. It's just some spots which I cleaned and used a reef safe lube to coat the nuts to help prevent further rust. It wasnt MAJOR but its due soon for another cleaning and I'm courious to see what it looks like. Other then that its a strong pump that still moves a ton of water. I only keep it at 75% and have a manifold which I connected 2 other 10 gallon tanks to.

@@Emanna81 Thank you for the feedback. For the price it seems like a strong option for me in my upcoming build. I was offered a used Vortec L1 for $285 but I'm not sure how long it's been used and I'm sure the warranty has expired.

@@kpdiver1703 no prob. Hope it helps. Yeah smart choice on the used pump. You sometimes have to be cautious on used equipment.

If the water level is that high what is the point of the baffles? I'm only asking because I'm about to start my own diy sump and I'm curious. Not trying to be a d...

It's cool ,no worries. The first part holds the filter socks and the protein skimmer. The skimmer produces a ton of bubbles. The first baffle forces the bubbles to go to the surface and pop making the second chamber clear. The second chamber is the refugium. It holds the chaeto. Extra live rock and helps become a breeding area for copepods. The 3rd part helps reduce the bubble further and has egg create along with a strip of filter pad to trap any algae that might make it to the filter. This helps greatly in stopping clogs and snails from making it to the pump which NEVER ends well.

*How’s the pump holding up after more than a year? Do you recommend it? And if not, would you advise other brands?*
@Emanna815 жыл бұрын
I do like it. It works great. I have also cleaned it 2 times since it was put in. I have noticed a tad bit of rust where the screws go into the housing. When i was cleaning it last. It was such a small amount I ended up just putting some o-ring lube over the small area to stop or prevent anymore corrosion and closed everything up. I'll know in a couple more months how everything held up.

What size tank do you use this pump on?
@mudbug5356 жыл бұрын
I just ordered one it's the one that puts out 3170 gph . My question is I've got my return plumbed 1/2 will that make a difference
@Emanna816 жыл бұрын
Jeremy Conlee, yes it will. It will create more head pressure on the pump, And will only allow so much water per hr. To flow through . the bigger the pipe the more gallons per hr. What size tank is it going on? The great thing about a DC pump is that you can adjust the flow. My tank is a 220 gallon and I used 1 inch pipe and only run it at 50% power.
@mudbug5356 жыл бұрын
EZreefin my tank is 180 gallon . I've got 4 90's and 1 tee . About 5 foot of pipe and about 6 foot lift . I hope i still get a good gph with my setup

Which model is this pump? the 6009 with 1050 GPH, 6010 with 1900 GPH, or the 6011 with 3170 GPH?? Let me know as I am trying to make a decision which model should I go it as right now I have a 46G tank but know for sure I will upgrade to the 195G tank in a year or so.
@Emanna815 жыл бұрын
3170 GPH. I have had it for awhile now with no major problems. Cleaned it 3 times. I only run it at about 3/4 power. It has a strong flow even with a manifold with 2- 1/2 inch lines wide open. I added 2 separate 10 gallon tanks plumbed into the system so they share the same sump. Still Runs great and still silent.
