Thanks for the thumbs up..this is one of my favorite Elvis early recordings and it sounds GREAT on this original pickup/volume control/tubes set-up! Most people don't realize the vast difference using original magnetic pickup, but with a sapphire 3 mil. needle and adjusted (lighter) tone arm, REALLY minimizing record wear. Even visually inspected "VG-" graded discs with scratches sound awesome, with very little audible distractions.

This is the real Memphis Beat . I love Elvis Sun Records by Sam Phillips Produktion. Ģreat group Elvis, Scotty and Bill ( the blue Moon Boys ).

Sounds a bit different compared with the SUN registration on 45 rpm. I actually prefer this 78 rpm version, it sounds richer. Thanks a lot for posting this gem.

Hi, thanks for the valid comment but there are 2 things to consider here: First, this is a well used copy I got cheap. Secondly, the tonearm was completely re-done, rubbers replaced, sapphire needle added along with ultra light setting of tone arm and re-wired volume control. Even a mint record played shows very little wear after time. Even so, I wouldn't put a rare one on this machine but nothing beats this sound when it's done right! Thanks, though as others probably asked the same question.

@CrisVangel you can propobly get almost as manny plays with a steel needle as you can with a odenery LP. i have an old columbia viva tonal portable from the mid 30s and i have playd a lot of old 78s on it but i have not had eny destroyd records they all sound like when i got them. but one thing thats inportent is to change the steel needle after each play unless you got semi permanent needles.

@gjamieson78 Read the owner's description above. The tone arm has been reworked. Like you, I also thought these "lollipop" tone arms were very heavy, not knowing there are ways to lighten the tracking weight.

Let me ask you a question: how important is the wear on the record when used in a jukebox? I ask this because I have hundreds of great records (78 and 45) that have been well played and wonder if they would be good for a jukebox.

MAN, this sounds good! I've got a copy of this. It's dirty, but I've never cleaned it, or played it. I met a guy in Houston, Texas many years ago named Grady Allen. He had a record store, and sat there all day playing records like this. I don't know if he sold very many, but he had a good time!

Great grocery store, I shop there when I'm in NC..the name just stuck to me. I'm a record collector so I have thousands of rare 78's, many are new store stock! Rock and roll and rhythm and blues, doo-wop. I buy and sell and love the music. Check the comments above regarding tonearm weight and record wear. Sound is awesome in person! Sorry it's not HD right now can only upload HD items originating at my computer. Thanks for checking out my channel!

I have this on an EP 45 with three more songs including "Anyway You Want Me", "You're Right, I'm Left, She's Gone" and "I Don't Care If the Sun Don't Shine". It was on an original RCA Victor 45.

Isn't it true that if you play a 78 on the old Wurlitzer juke boxes, it actually wears out the grooves of the record, and makes playing surfaces like sand paper ?

didn't know elvis was on 78's, 45's were out then

This was the 50s. Not everyone could afford to replace their expensive equipment. 78s were more popular in the UK, which suffered more post-WW2.
