This video quickly shows you what comes with the All American Sun Oven and also quickly shows how you would use it during a grid-down situation.
This solar oven is another great OPTION for preppers and those looking to be more self-sufficient. As preppers, we always want multiple ways to do anything (including cooking food), and this piece of prepper gear allows you to cook food if you can't have a fire or other means to cook with.

My wife was really skeptical about one of these; but after we got ours and she immediately cooked a perfectly roasted whole chicken in it, she was sold! She loves it. The bread recipe is great and wonderful to eat when you go camping. And in a shtf situation, no odors, no smoke. And purifying water is BONUS!

This video was made about 4 years ago and is even more relevant today then in 2018. I LOVE my Sun Oven! I'm making brownies right NOW in it! It gets HOT and FAST!! What a great and NEEDED piece of technology!! .... What? Not needed?.... OK, lets see if you say that when the power goes out and you have NO propane!..... Sunlight = $0

I'm waiting for mine to get here after ordering it last week. I ordered just the oven, without the accessories. I made a Copenhagen Solar Cooker, last week, as well, and have been using it. The hottest I have gotten it to was 250 degrees F. So, it takes a little longer to cook food. So far, it cooked whole potatoes in 2.5 hours, and a beautiful pot of pea soup in 3.5 hours. I made a homemade pepperoni log, and it cooked in 3.5 hours, as well. I look forward to the faster cooking times with the Sun Oven, after it gets here. One of the things I love about this is that I won't be smoking out the neighbors when using it. In a SHTF situation, I do not look forward to smoky neighborhood when everyone else will be using options that are smoky. I tend to get breathing issues in smoky situations, and wish that everyone would use sun ovens. Though, here in Florida, especially in summertime, there can be a lot of clouds and rain.

Great video. We have used the gambit of sun powered ovens and have a similar model to yours but it's older and not quite as attractive. But I must say, this is an amazing stove and I hope that for the price point, everyone will give cooking with the sun a try! That last items that we cooked with the sun were reheating dinner meals and fried rice.

Thank you for adding your experiences Brad! The last item I actually cooked in mine was bread that I had milled; and I used the home-made yeast to make the bread with. That bread from the sun-oven turned out awesome. In a month or so I'll do a video on it. :)

So my thoughts are that the smell of the fire would just add more smell for others to realize that food is being cooked. I know that the smell of a campfire will travel for long distances. I think that solar cooking could possibly be a little more low-key than cooking by fire. But if your money is really tight, you may also want to look at making your own solar oven. But for me: I want to have several different ways to be able to cook. I want to be able to cook by fire and also by solar. That way if I need to conserve wood or don't want to risk the smell of my campfire alerting people from far away, then I can cook by solar and conserve wood for fire. And then if it's a cloudy overcast day outside, then I can cook via campfire if it's safe enough to do so. In the end: for me, it's about trying to have as many options as possible for life-saving things like food and water. :)

@EthicalPreparedness
@EthicalPreparedness 5 жыл бұрын
There's nothing wrong with collecting stoves so that you have a way to prepare food off-grid. One can only have so many knives before they just become redundant or a waste of money. But I think it's completely intelligent to ensure that a person has multiple ways to cook off-grid. :)

@@EthicalPreparedness No, mine will be ALOT more expensive than that, we live in central Fla on the Atlantic side, the water table is only 2' below ground so no basements here, there are places here that have sand ridges where you can have basements but not where I'm at. Mine would be above ground an poured cell concrete block, rebar reinforced in each cell with a poured concrete reinforced with rebar lattice structured roof, that's the best I can do here cause were only 7 miles inland from the ocean. And if hurricane Michael and Andrew are any indication of the power of one, its the only thing I can build that would have any chance of SURVING a hurricane of these magnitudes, and I think were going to see them in the future become stronger do to oceans warming an climate change.

Thanks for the great video. I've been wanting one for a couple months but haven't got the dollars to do it. I think it is brilliant that it has the gasket around the glass - it traps both heat and smells! In a real emergency I would carry my covered pot inside the house before opening it so smells don't alert others that it is dinner time! I've made a rocket stove and got a good fire going in it but my pot of water (about 2 cups) would not boil. I think the pot was too far up from the opening and heat vented out. I will adjust and try again.

I love your camera work! My husband and I were very impressed with your sun oven demonstration and in fact our mouths were watering. Believe it or not, we have many overcast days in North Georgia. Even if it's sunny, there are so many trees that you can hardly get a ray of sunshine through them. But I do practice cooking off grid using my Canway gasifier stove that I bought from your Amazon store and also a couple of other camping stoves that I have. None of them use propane. They either use Sterno or wood, and if there's one thing we have, it's a whole lot of wood from all these trees! I haven't cooked any meat yet, at least it's not like you're doing. I have made ham and egg omelets, biscuits, percolator type coffee, also just boiled water for drip coffee,and that's about it at this point. I do want to practice cooking chicken or thin sliced beef. However, it's been raining for several days and I would just prefer to wait until the rain stops. Either that or I have to cook on my front porch...

Thank you for the compliment on my camera work. I'm still learning to remember to do different angles and stuff like that (in order to make the video more enjoyable for the viewer). But don't feel bad: it seems like when I have to work we have nice sunny days... and then when I'm off work and could actually do some off-grid cooking, then it's rainy or cruddy outside. Plus I also have to clean house and other things on my days off too. LoL :)

I use a homemade fancy feast alcohol stove to heat and boil water, cook some meals, also use propane stove and a butane stove. I made a sun oven last year, and started messing with the fresnel lens, but it caught the grass on fire, so I will be fine tuning it this summer. Been off grid in a tent with my rescue pets since being evicted two years ago after losing 2 jobs within months of each other. One business closed down and my decades long job went when my boss's had a stroke. I urge everyone to actually practice living off grid because no matter how responsible you are, you might find yourself homeless like I did. Better to be ready.

It sounds like Washington must be a very cloudy area; and that would pose a big problem for you (comparing cost of the oven compared to how often you'd actually be able to use it). And now I'm glad I was so clear that it took bright sunny days for the oven to work... I'd feel bad if somebody that lived in an area like Washington to run out and buy one and hardly be able to use it. And that's too bad that it wouldn't be good for an area like Washington! It's so nice to be able to cook with free energy; and I also like that you can put your food to cook and let it be while you take care of other tasks/chores. :)

Also just so you know as I have said to Praxis, Canadian Prepper, and others I don’t mind if you do a review on a product that you have some arrangement with for so long as you declared that arrangement. We have have a few ways to cook off grid. My mom still has her wood stove she got when her and dad got married. It is at one of our trapping cabins. We also have a couple of propane and wood camp stoves. Last thing I cooked - deer sausage over a camp fire. If you got time please check out the link I left you on last weeks video. Take care eh.

Thank you. I turn down most things that companies offer me to do video-reviews on. I get a TON of flashlight and fire-starting gear requests from companies, but I almost always turn the down. I only want to do reviews on things that are going to be TRULY useful to most preppers. And of course, if I do a gear review in the future on behalf of a company, I will be sure to declare that arrangement up front. I believe in total transparency. :)

That's actually funny that you sent me that link, because somebody else also sent me that same link. Here's my take on the guy: I cannot really develop a decision on him or his channel with having watched only his one video. He may completely and 100% know everything he's talking about; or he may be full of hot air. I just haven't seen enough of him to make an intelligent decision on him. However: there were several things that I disagreed with on the channel (for instance in 17 years I've never heard a cop 'seriously' say they'd lie on a report). We're taught our whole careers that lying on a report or in court could cost us our careers and also our freedom. And when he said when you're in a firefight, take cover so you have better accuracy and don't have a stray round kill an innocent person: that's what we train to do and that's what we WANT to do... but firefights are almost always by surprise and we don't have the luxury of moving to cover before we are forced to return fire. But in the end: while I disagreed with several things in the video, I also agreed with a few things. For instance: I'm a big supporter of the Spirit of the Law over the Letter of the Law when somebody is not being directly harmed. :)

I hope Santa sees that you've been nice and sees to it that you get one. You'll enjoy it. And I forgot to mention it in the video, but mine also came with a recipe book. :)

Great video. The food looked fantastic. What holster is in the video?

Serpa (I think is the name of it). Some guys that are big into the tactical scene don't like them because it places your trigger finger closer to the trigger when you draw it. But I love the holster; because for me it places my finger in the 'finger safe' position as I draw it. :)

I ordered this oven a few month ago and am really disappointed that it didn't come with the stack-able pans.

I have one question -- I an emergency / SHTF / lawless situations, the smell of food cooking can be a real / dangerous problem. Is there an acceptable low-smell cooking with the solar oven. Of course there is no fire-smoke smell. But the smell of cooking food can carry quite a way. Could this be an issue with this cooking situation?
@EthicalPreparedness
@EthicalPreparedness 5 жыл бұрын
My personal thoughts: I think that solar cooking is much stealthier than cooking with fire. The smell of the food can still travel; but I think it would depend on the type of food and for how you cooked it. Warming up some soup or stew probably wouldn't have the aroma of food travel as far, as say: roasting a whole chicken. Personally: I believe that after SHTF that neighborhoods and communities will start banding together. People just want normalcy and safety. Unless a person is camped out in the middle of nowhere, I think that there will be 'safety zones' that will develop, allowing a person to cook and stuff like that. Of course, that cooking wouldn't be able easily to happen until people start harvesting community gardens and raising chickens in their yards, etc. I hope that all makes sense! :)

I'm curious why you blurred your face out in this video. Is using a sun oven somehow subversive? It looks like an amazing bit of kit, though could be used only sporadically here in the UK due to the weather.

I'm really glad that I purchased that sun oven now. I really enjoy having a backup/additional way to cook off-grid. If it's a sunny day, then I'll use the sun-oven so I conserve firewood. And then if it's cloudy, then I'll cook with firewood. I just wish I had the space and money for a big old fashioned wood burning stove inside my house. :)

@@EthicalPreparedness forgot to ask , besides the two bread pans and the stackie pots does it come with anyother pans , also it looked like those took up all the space couldn't tell how big it was , about what size are we looking at ?

It does not come with any other pots other than the stackable pots and the two bread pans. And my apologies, but I have my sun oven stored in my shed and it's after 1:30am so I cannot go out to measure the stackable pots. I tried looking online (really quick) to see if I could find the dimensions of the stackable pots, but I didn't see any right off hand.

I do disagree slighty... I've used mine (Today is one example) during overcast days. Mine, now is at 225 degrees with moderate to heavy overcast for my area. I had it during preheat to over 300 but the heavier clouds moved in when I started cooking. But still, well hot enough to cook my pork dinner. I do allow plenty of time to allow for this... 3 hours today for my pork. Probably overkill, but it doesn't burn or dry out, so who cares if it went an hour longer than needed? I use it like a crock pot... ready when I'm ready... even if it was cooking a while.

1st: when you said you disagree, Thank You for being polite about it. I always welcome a differing point of view on my channel. But many people nowadays don't know how to disagree without being a butt-head about it. But you, were cordial and gave good info behind your slight disagreement. Thank you again. 2nd: It's been a while since I did this video, but it sounds like I must have been pretty adamant that the sun oven only worked in good sunlight. Unfortunately: it's been my experience that when I've had overcast days, it's been difficult for me to get it hot enough to actually cook raw meat (but that's been my experience). I guess it also seems that my area either has sunny skies or extremely heavy overcast too. Anyways, anytime you disagree with something I say in my videos: don't hesitate to comment. Your disagreement was actually refreshing for me to read (compared to how many others state their disagreements). Take care. :)

I'm stopping the video at 1:43 to make this comment: Ain't no sun here. Ever. No, seriously, there are like 3 un-gray days a month here. I do want a solar oven though. Maybe SHTF there would be some actual sun in this area...
