The Art of War is an ancient Chinese military treatise dating from the 5th century BC. The work is composed of 13 chapters, each devoted to an aspect of warfare and how it applies to military strategy and tactics. For almost 1,500 years it was the lead text in an anthology that would be formalised as the Seven Military Classics by Emperor Shenzong of Song in 1080. The Art of War remains the most influential strategy text in East Asian warfare and has influenced both Eastern and Western military thinking, business tactics, legal strategy and beyond.

What a man! Sun Tzu RIP. Indeed greatness eventually is innate ability, it cannot be learned and can only be taught. No one can attain a height that his or her innate ability will not permit, these great men teach and lesser men listen and in the end no one else can truly replicate their ability now and forever more. Very sad reality this is. Thanks for this audio book, many thanks.

Nathen Bedford Forrest pretty much used the same principle as is defined at 21:05. He used cruder wording but it meant the same. Be the first with the mostest. I love that because he understood that the enemy will not move as a single cohesive force when advancing toward an enemy position miles away. He hit the enemy when forming up then advanced to take out reinforcements that often had been given a location to march to, but Forrest defeated the initial force then marched to meet any other forces. He never lost an engagement, because his swift tactics always took the enemy when they were separately inferior on numerics. Never let them combine and move to a point forward of their projected place of contact. Most engagements, if not all, he was outnumbered by up to two to three times his number.

@@jmw-be6fl I can tell by your mastery of language the wisdom you can bestow. Where did WE profit? War rarely yields profit. It undoubtedly yields "complications", but mostly debt to be paid by further conquests. We lost 21 years prior to a 20-year conflict because no one stood up to say annihilate what we know to be the problem, leave it in ruin, and be involved in no other way. We foster the idea of opposition by conveying we are better. We are not. We only need to win when we are wronged. Prolonged exposure leads to distortion, hijacking, and manipulation of ideas and ideals. We create the hate against us when we seek to control for it. We have no power of the nature of humanity, thus we should only operate on what is just in the core nature of our being. Eye for an eye, but grace for all... Take an insult, but strike down a threat. God save us from ourselves... No one respects a coward, but praise be to the peacemaker who lays down his live that others might live. Praise be to the righteous and swift that others might not know the need to choose the coward from the martyr. Praise be to honest in either case, that we know where we stand. And praise be to humble and willing that give courage amongst us that we stand at all. This world is not gained through conquest, it is the gift we already have. It is the fool that would destroy his own brother to take where he already stands. It is the wicked claiming foul that perpetuates foul action amongst his fellow man as recompense unto himself. It is unsurety that guides unwise action. Action, without consideration, is folly unto itself and begets echos of conveyance far beyond the onset deed, for which the blind to their own will cannot foresee.

@@KylerExley War yields profit for a few but destruction for most. You are right in that regard. I am against war. It is horrible what we have done to the middle east. Wisdom and intelligence is independent of time period. Sure, someone born in 544 BC will most likely have no idea how to use any of current technology, but that doesn't make them any less wise or intelligent. Intelligence is the ability to recognize a problem and derive a solution in the most expedient way possible; wisdom is the ability to accurately apply that solution so as to be most beneficial in regards to goals and intent.
