I think, before the expansion of the Rashidun Caliphate (632-661 C.E.), "Arab" referred to any of the largely nomadic and settled Semitic people from the Arabian Peninsula, Syrian Desert and Lower Mesopotamia. The works of Al Masudi and Abu Muhammad al-Hasan al-Hamdani support this view. After the spread of Islam and with it, the Arabic language, it included even the Iberian Peninsular. In modern usage, it embraces any of the Arabic-speaking peoples living in the vast region from the Middle-East to North Africa and Iran. Prior to this era, the Persians, Egyptians and Abyssinians did not refer to themselves as Arabs and they practiced Polytheistic Paganism, Christianity and Zoroastrianism.

@@shafikali305 what i said is not in the program i am saying about my opinion and this is the popular opinion hindu arabic number system was originated in india..vedic and buddhism was the philosophies behind the mathematics and numbers..number zero derived from the concept of "voidness"in buddhism also "chathuskotika" four fold logic..since the number system is advanced and easy arabs just used this system..also introduced to the west..so the number system is called as "Hindu arabic" system to give credits for both..
