@@kds5895 Yes, it's a great parable to cover and relevant to today. Plus the back story of Gideon's sons and the Israelites in general and how they relate to the bramble, fig, olive, vine, and cedars of Lebanon. It was a great warning to the people about how their desire for an authority figure was misguided. In a sense, the modern man also thinks what we need is "the right King" or executive figure when in reality we possess the tools to govern ourselves properly and have for a long time, we just haven't took the idea of rule of law seriously enough. We can govern ourselves properly and don't need a King or strong authority figure to choke us or jokingly pretend to "offer us shade" like the weak little bramble in the story.

@@PurgPurg Some people when reading the Bible try to preach and be "Bible-thumpers" and shame people all as a bunch of evil sinners. Some people when reading the Bible overly sanitize it and misconstrue or ignore parts for the sake of a false message they want to push. Both of these are twisting what's considered God's Word, and it can go to such a degree where they aren't even real Christians that "mean well." Wendigoon, on the other hand, is just reading through the passages and stating it how we can better understand and apply it to our own lives. This is pretty much the ideal way to read it (until you study further into the Bible), especially considering his audience is made of both religious and non-religious people.

I might be more motivated to be religious if it was less "you'll burn in hell if you so much as touch someones ankle before marriage" and more *"In the first age, in the first battle, when the shadows first lengthened, one stood, burned by the embers of Armageddon, his soul blistered by the fires of hell and tainted beyond ascension. He chose the path of perpetual torment. In his ravenous hatred he found no peace, and with boiling blood he scoured the umbral plans seeking vengeance against the dark lords who had wronged him. He wore the crown of the knight sentinels, and those who tasted the bite of his sword name him the Doomslayer.* *Tempered by the fires of hell, his iron will remained steadfast through the passage that preys upon the week, for he alone was the hell walker, the unchained predator who sought retribution in all quarters, dark and light, fire and ice, in he beginning and the end. And he hunted the slaves of doom with barbarous cruelty; for he passed through the divide as none but demon had before.* *And in his conquest against the blackened souls of the doom, his prowess was shown. In his crusade the seraphim bestowed upon him terrible power and speed and with his might he crushed the obsidian pillars of the blood temples. He set fourth without pity upon the beasts of the knight circles. Unbreakable, incorruptible, unyielding, the Doomslayer sought to end the dominion of the dark realm.* *The age of his reckoning was uncounted, the scribes carved his name deep into he taverns of hell across eons, with each battle etched terror in the hearts of demons. They knew he would come, as he always had, as he always will, to feast on the blood of the wicked, for he alone could draw strength from his fallen foes, and ever his power grew swift and unrelenting.* *None could stand before the hoard but the Doomslayer. Despair spread before him like a plague, striking fear into the shadow dwellers, driving them to deeper and darker pits. But from the depth of the abyss rose the great one, a champion, mightier then all that had come before; the Titan of immeasurable power and ferocity. He strode upon the plain and faced the Doomslayer, and a mighty battle was fought on the desolate plains. The Titan fought with the fury of the countless that had fallen at the Doomslayer’s hands; but there fell the Titan, and in his defeat the shadow hoard was routed.* *And in his terrible rancor between worlds and through time came the wretch who shall not be named, but in his heresy was loyal to his evil cause. The wretch adored the Doomslayer in a mighty armor, wrought in the fortress of hell, impenetrable and unyielding, with sword and shield of adamantine strength, the Doomslayer sent to banish all that were left unbroken by his savagery to the void.* *Yet as the mighty Titan fell and dread engulfed the armies of doom, the demon priests of the blood temples laid a trap to capture the scourge of hell, insatiable, even by the vanquishing of the great one, the hell walker sought to prey in the tombs of the blood keep, and blinded by his fervor, the lure drew him in. The priests brought down the temple of the Doomslayer and in his defeat entombed him in the cursed sarcophagus. The mark of the Doomslayer was burned upon his crypt, a warning to all of hell that the terror within must never be freed. There he lies still, and ever more, in silent suffering."* Right.

The issue is the secular non theistic mindset of the internet. The core of the internet has adopted this weird nihilistic “religion bad” mindset that really makes the internet such a boring place. World needs a dash of magic and hope in it to make it livable to remove it is to live in permanent depression. Don’t even have to REALLY believe in it but to disregard it because people think it didn’t happen is like saying fantasy is not allowed to exist because it didn’t happen. Because of this creators tend to avoid religion like the plague even when breaching the subject from a historical point of view rather than a theistic point of view.

@@MVPUnlucky To add on to what you said, the same individuals who shit on religion also have full faith (ironic, right?) that science is accurate because they were told so. To clarify, I'm simply bashing the people who trash anyone religious because of the concept of faith, while having faith in things they dont have a clue how to figure out. They ride on the assumption that since other scientists agreed upon whatever topic, said scientists must be correct, which is ironic because that's FAITH at work
@J3diMindTrix2 жыл бұрын
@@MVPUnlucky The irony is that some of the wildest most fantastical stories actually come from religion in the first place... people that dismiss stories out of hand simply because they come from a religious context are the ones missing out; as a student of both kinds of material, I can safely say that some of the most creatively intriguing tales come from religious sources, not even some of the most outlandish sci-fi or fantasy has anything on some Bible stories... ever read the descriptions of angels for instance? Multiheaded, chimerical mishmashes of various creatures just for starters, and this is from a text over 2000 years old?! Also, funny thing is religious texts are some of the only literature that survives from ancient times, some cultures have only their origin stories left, and a lot of these have inspired all manner of writing genres in the centuries since; many fantasy tales and mythology can be traced back to sources from the Classical age to Antiquity and even earlier, and a lot of people reading it don't even realise it. And also, major props to this man for being cool enough to represent these varied aspects of storytelling, from Biblical stories to modern horror and fantasy, and being sincere about it treating everything with scholarly curiosity and respect, it's refreshing in this nihilistic modern environment, and plain to see that he cares enough to share that appreciation with his audience.

@@J3diMindTrix I don’t disagree. There is a reason why so many movies take bits and pieces of religions and rebrand them for fantasy or horror. It’s some of the best stuff on the books (metaphorically and literally) and it’s public domain. Intellectuals who’ve never read the Bible or the Quran or the Torva or any of the other religious texts of old purely because “religion bad” because they grew up in some hyper oppressive household are missing out and some of the most wild shit ever put to paper.

I'm not a Christian, however, growing up both of my grandfathers were pastors in their own churches. I've always had a deep interest in theology and religion; and a lot of bible stories, whether real or not, hold some relevancy and can very well help people through hard times. I have great respect for religion if not only because it brings so many people comfort. In a world as messy as ours, I think we should treasure and try to understand that which comforts.

The saddest thing to me in what happened with Tamar, was that Amnon, after he did what he did with her, hated Tamar and was disgusted with her, for a thing that *he has forced her do to.* And then David was in a place where he couldn't public forgive Absalom for the justice he did because it would expose his daughter in disgrace, and also the already dead Amnon, where in this case would be a disgrace to David himself. But is really sad to see that Absalom became so full of himself - and also, I guess, he expected his father to give him more credit, since he was so "special". And I agree, King David was an awesome person. An example of humbleness, forgiveness and also of repentance. Even if he sinned, he would always repent to never commit the same mistakes. He was human after all, but a human who was called "a man after God’s own heart". But yeah, Bible registers are wild lol, especially the ones about the kingdom of Israel and the prophets. Hope to listen and see more of those
