Sundown sure like to underrate their amps, which is a good thing. The SALT series are actually rated at 12 volts, being the low voltage series, and for those who wonder, these amps easily meets the rated numbers and then some at 12 volts. Of course, at higher voltages, it is not uncommon to see double the rated power. Anyways, I can highly recommend Sundown products to anyone looking into quality car audio equipment.

For that price I would have liked to have seen better quality components in the amp. I do audio repair and restoration for a living and the cheap Chinese caps in this amp are some of the worst, have a fairly high failure rate. For not much more they could have gone with something from Panasonic’s line, Nichicon, or Rubycon. We’re talking cents per device here. Even if the production cost went up $50 for the entire amp it would be worth it. I’ve replaced 40 year old Nichicon and Panasonic caps that still measured perfectly and at the same time have replaced dozens of CapXon caps that have failed only being 5-6 years old. I figured the price of the amp would suggest better quality than budget amps. I guess you’re paying for circuitry layout instead of circuitry components.

Constant power is cool but very hard on charging systems. Of course Alot of the guys using these amps already take care of that side of their build but I know Alot of knuckleheads that don't and will putt crazy power in their vehicles without charging upgrades and a constant style amp will eat their shit up. When voltage drops that amp will increase current demand to stay constant . Bye bye battery and alternator. But I do agree that it's def a nice feature , companies like JL audio have been doing that for decades. It's just starting to trickle down because price drop in tech. So even constant power technically old.

Hell yeah. I Push the Salt4 daily. Got a zv5 and a zv6 wired in series / parallel down to 1ohm. I’m steady around 14.4v. Can’t wait to see the salt 4k video! Good work man!

You can mix them?
@equanox1002 жыл бұрын
@@DjR3aper I did. Generally you don’t want to, you want matching subwoofers with matching specs. Mine are custom geared towards depth and organic reproduction than just straight spl though.

Is this too much power for 2 JL Audio 12w7's @ 1.5 ohms? I am currently running one of my w7's on a kicker cxa1800.1 1800w at 1 and 2 ohms, but I am pushing 1350 RMS at 3 ohms and it is handling it fine with no coil burn. Looking to building a box for both 12s, for my 1971 Chevelle.

underrating an amp like rockford does by a few hundred watts is cool but underrating it by 1000 watts? that's pretty stupid IMO. this amp is way too rich for my blood either way

Jp told me to get the salt4 and be done. And I did. An I love it. Jp is a great guy on telling you what you need for anything that you are going for.

JP sure knows his stuff. Good choice going for the SALT-4. It will probably serve you well for many years to come. What subs are you running?

Price is good I mean back in the 90s when people didn't have todays salaries you was easily paying a $G or more for big boy competition amplifiers.
