A review of the SUNER Power 20 Watt (12 volt) Solar Panel Kit. We are unboxing, testing, and installing it at our off-grid shed. Watch the video to see what is included and what we think of it!
This was purchased on Amazon and it is very confusing because in the title and description it states it is mono crystalline [sic], but further down in the description and in the directions it says it is poly crystalline [sic]! I say it is polycrystalline in the video, but honestly I am not sure at this point what it is. But what I can say without a doubt that it works great!
NOTE: We are not professionals in any way or form. Please seek advice from a professional before attempting to install. This is not a how to video, but a showing you how we did it video which does not necessarily mean it is done correctly.
We have NOT received any compensation for this review and are not associated with the company or brand in any way. We are simply doing this review completely on our own for the benefit of our viewers and others that may be interested in purchasing one.

Very good start! We started similarly. We just did a video on our channel building a small solar trailer...so we can trailer 120 volts to any part of the homestead. It's working well. Great video, thx

I've had my panel over a year. My batteries died. I had it disconnected for 6 mos. Chargered my batts by starting the truck every month. November connected it to batteries, got green light. Jan 25, green light. Batteries, dead, and still have green light but test meter shows no power. What's young with Charger? How long are the suppose to last?

It's been a couple of years now, how has it held up? I've seen reviews of those charge controllers that say they quit fairly quickly. In order to tell if your panel is monocrystalline or polycrystalline take a close look at the cells themselves under bright light. If you can see a crystalline structure, or they look "sparkly" then they are polycrystalline. If they have the same Sheen all across the face of the cell, then they are monocrystalline.

Thanks for the info. Yes, the controller broke on ours and we replaced it with another that’s been great (amzn.to/3yLoovC) Panel is still working no problems 👍

Friggin' tree hugger! I knew it! 😂 We have the same voltmeter - think I picked mine up at Sears long ago. I was a solar array salesman for several years, made a nice chunk of change during that time before leaving for other pursuits. Scientists need to develop a solution to how solar panels are produced - the amount of non-recyclable pollution created is outlandish and kinda defeats the purpose (imho). Nice video, folks.
@CreatingASimplerLifeOffGrid
@CreatingASimplerLifeOffGrid 5 жыл бұрын
LOL!!! Gotta have a sense of humor these days :-) That volt meter is great. Rich actually used to work for Sears back in the day so has a lot of their tools. And you're right about solar panels and the pollution created. Do you know anything about wind power? That's something I am looking to try as well down the road. Have a great day!

@@CreatingASimplerLifeOffGrid, top of the morn, Kathie. Wind power? Not a huge fan for numerous reasons so am not well versed in that area. As for a sense of humor... absolutely mandatory, especially the ability to laugh at our own foolishness. :-) Thanks for replying and Happy Thanksgiving to you and Rich and your family as well.

For testing purposes I hooked up my kit to a fully powered battery. The far left 1st light blinked, the middle light was solid. Is mine functioning. I cannot tell.
@CreatingASimplerLifeOffGrid
@CreatingASimplerLifeOffGrid 3 жыл бұрын
If the solar LED is blinking it means that the battery is not connected to it, or the polarity is reversed. You must wait 15 20 seconds for it to calibrate. The middle (battery) LED will be red if the battery voltage is below 12.6. At 12.6 volts or higher it will turn green .

Think this panel could keep a 12V fridge running indefinitely?
@CreatingASimplerLifeOffGrid
@CreatingASimplerLifeOffGrid 4 жыл бұрын
No, it probably couldn't but it really depends on the watts the fridge uses and there also is no sunlight 24/7.
@chrisgraham2904
@chrisgraham2904 3 жыл бұрын
No, not directly. 20 Watt output from the panel divided by 12 volts will give you only a maximum amperage of about 1 to 1-1/2 amps.

Quick question please, what happens if we start the car with the charger plugged in? Thanks for the video (-:
@CreatingASimplerLifeOffGrid
@CreatingASimplerLifeOffGrid 5 жыл бұрын
the charger controller has built-in overload protection .So you should be safe. But I would disconnect from the battery before starting just to be sure not to damage the system. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching.

People are permanent mounting these panels on work trucks and motor homes and don't seem to be experiencing any damage to the controllers when they start their vehicles multiple times per day.

Hi is there a fuse anywhere on this kit? I think I may of accidentally crossed the positive and negative wire and now it's not working. I have the 20 watt Sunerpower kit like yours.
@CreatingASimplerLifeOffGrid
@CreatingASimplerLifeOffGrid 3 жыл бұрын
There isn't any fuses. It has reverse polarity protection. Make sure you plug in the battery first and then the solar panel . Then wait 15-20 seconds for a solid red LED on the solar panel icon. You can check if the panel is working by checking for voltage with a multimeter directly from the wire coming from the panel .Mine was a little over 20V. Hope this helps.

Seems that the 20 Watt panel is the minimum wattage to consider for charging and maintaining a typical vehicle battery. Anything less, is just a toy. Agree???
@CreatingASimplerLifeOffGrid

Agree for 12 v. a smaller panel can charge a cell phone but not much more . But I personally wouldn’t go smaller than 20.

What is the amp hour of the battery
@CreatingASimplerLifeOffGrid
@CreatingASimplerLifeOffGrid 4 жыл бұрын
It is a 100 amp hour AGM 12 volt battery. Which means in theory you can pull 5 amps for 20 hours equals 100 amp hours . They go for about 320 bucks new. Mine is very old but I only draw .05 amp with the lights .occasionally I charge a phone. I recently installed a little 12-volt automotive fan which draws 0.08 amps. Hope this helps
