Watch as I unbox and install the Sunneday retractable hose reel not once, but twice and then give my first impressions on this $100 hose reel that can be found at Costco or on Amazon. I finally settled on mounting it to the vinyl siding.

After a couple more weeks of use, I'm still loving the convenience of this Sunneday hose reel. It has made watering the lawn and gardens so much easier and I've even been washing my car more often because I don't dread coiling the hose back up after. Totally worth the $100 for me!

Another suggestion for mounting this hose reel. Your local big box hardware store should carry 4x6 posts ( I wasn't sure if a 4x4 post is wide enough, so you'll have to check this with the mounting bracket). You will probably have to buy and 8 foot post ($30.00) but you can cut it in half. This way you can put the post almost anywhere you want. If your ground is soft you might want to use some concrete mix but in my area if I put the post 2 feet into the ground, it won't move after I pack it. Dig a hole where you want the hose reel located. Put the post about 2 feet into the ground (if you bought a 2x6 make sure the 6 inch face is facing in the direction you want to install the hose reel. Backfill dirt around the post. Use a broom handle or something similar to pack down the dirt all around the post (or use concrete mix if you desire). Once the post is in place and you've allowed time for curing (if you used concrete), you can install your hose reel to the post.

Thanks for the suggestion. That would have been my ideal scenario. Unfortunately, my hose bib is surrounded by blacktop and I didn’t feel like there was a sensible place to bury a post. I may consider this method if/when I put one of these in the back yard.

Great video, I must have watched it 10x, I did the 2nd install but gave an angle to the board w/ a router, then primed/spraypainted everything to match my house. Basically a permanent install with 2 less bolts, wonderful. Also, you have space to move / center / level it without exposing the 2 bolts.

I have the exact same hose reel and really like it. I am having some difficulty getting the last couple of feet to retract back into the housing but it may just need some more breaking in. Good video.

I had a little issue with that late this summer after my kids had been playing with it. I extended the hose all the way out and guided it back in slowly making sure that it coiled correctly and that took care of the problem. Good luck. It’s a nice hose reel for the money.

I installed mine today and found I had a hard time getting it to completely retract. Almost seems like the inside isn’t big enough for the 100 ft hose.

Thanks, I did not use plumber’s tape anywhere in this installation. In my experience, well manufactured equipment like this usually doesn’t need it as long the gaskets are fresh.

i read something about hose attachments leaking and not fitting bc it’s not standard size?

I haven’t had a single leak. I’ve hooked it up to sprayers, sprinklers, pressure washers. No leaks. In my experience, leaks are usually due to the gaskets wearing out. I generally keep some spares on hand and change them out every spring.

Can you mount on brick with Tapcons or you have to use the screws provided?

You’d need to find tapcons the same size as the provided screws but I believe it came with masonry anchors to be used with the provided hardware.

I’ve seen people set a post in the ground about 3-4ft high and mount them to that. Not sure how strict your condo association is. Good luck. A hose reel tray is a game changer.

It stinks how much everything has gone up. It actually got higher than that at one point. I’d say it would still be worth the $146 to me. It was a real bargain around $100.

I would use a post. I would never put holes in my vinyl siding,if you change out that hose a few years down the road your going to have an eye sore

I would have loved to use a post but my spigot is surrounded by blacktop making that a very difficult project. After using a hose reel, I don’t think I’ll ever go without one again. Worst case, if I did decide to remove it, I’d just pull a couple pieces of siding off the back of my garage and swap them out up front so the eye sore isn’t very visible. A little caulking over the holes and it’s not a big issue.

I honestly don’t know why I didn’t get this sooner. I love it. It has made taking the hose in for winter so easy. No kinked up hoses, watering the garden is so easy. I use this with my in ground sprinkler system (I have a video about that on my channel) it’s so much easier than what I was doing before. I’m sure you’d be better off with any hose reel than no hose reel but this one has held up really well and functions now just as it did day one.

Inflation is crazy right? This was $100 brand new when I bought it. I will say that sometimes Costco has items cheaper in store than on the website. Even at $140, I’d buy it again. It’s made watering the lawn, washing the cars and pressuring washing the house so much easier and I haven’t tripped over a single hose since I installed it. Putting it away for winter and getting it back out for spring was such a simple task with the hose reel as well. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.

It’s not perfect but there are certainly some of these hose reels on the market with a worse design. I like that it has an option for a lock which keeps it from getting knocked off accidentally.

I’m not crazy about this design. In time the bracket will not hold due to the tension due to weigh of the hose especially when water is in the hose. The unit will sag so I’ll pass on this design and go with a free standing hose unit that is self retracting using water pressure. It’s a much better design IMO

I had similar initial thoughts but the plastic bracket actually has lags underneath that hold up the reel. Almost a year in, it’s been really stable. I can’t fault you for going another way but I’m fairly impressed with how this is holding up with all the use I’m getting out of it.

A little suggestion : NEVER BUY A "BEAUTIFUL" shiny PLASTIC HOSE they display before your nose at the stores. Instead, BUY AN UGLY BLACK RUBBER HOSE, which doesn't kink and coils up good any time-every time right under your spigot place, no need for plastic coiler. Right now you can buy a Continental hose in Home Depot, 50 ft only $ 49. It's the best hose ever. It will last also many many years.

My grandpa always bought ugly black rubber hoses and they worked great. That being said, I used to have to coil them and they were heavy. This hose reel has held up very well and been absolutely effortless to use.

I saw that. At the $99 I paid, it was a steal but I’d still pay $180 for it today because it’s changed the way I use my hose. It’s just so much of a timesaver, I’m washing my car more, watering my lawn more, it looks better than the old pile of hose I had and taking it in for the winter was such a breeze.
