i absolutely HATE public love confessions in books. every time there’s a love confession with an audience i automatically cringe, put down the book and take a breather before i can continue 🤢

something i SUPER HATE in books is when the development of the romantic relationship goes from zero to 100 and makes absolutely no sense *cue the spanish love deception* and yeah omg when I read text messages between teenagers in books T_T

I hate how in some books, the author keeps mentioning how small the mc is :/ like we get it shes tiny and fragile but you really don’t have to mention it 5 times in one chapter to get that message across damn 🤠

i don't like it when authors try to "explain" the magic system of the their world in the first two chapters of the book. that much information throws me off and i immediately lose interest. i prefer it when they don't really explain anything but we get to understand it ourselves gradually chapter by chapter as we get introduced to new things :")

For the siblings addressing each other as brother/sister, the easiest and least awkward way I can think of to let people know they are siblings, is just one of them mentioning a parent in dialogue. Like “That sounds like something dad would say.” or “Mom wants you to visit soon.” Idk something like that. That seems really natural to me, as it’s normal to bring up parents in a conversation with siblings. This seems like it would help establish a natural feeling sibling dynamic.

I have only ever read ONE author who wrote YA contemporary relationships realistically. Alice Oseman did such a great job in heartstopper & Radio Silence. I have never read conversation and banter that actually felt that real, like the way I talk with my friends.

- when a character is telling/recalling a story about their childhood and it's written as extremely detailed dialogue with quotes and everything like...girl we know u don't remember the direct quotes and super specific details from when u were 8. Also I know a brother/sister irl that call each other "brother" and "sister" 🥴

I read a lot of Wattpad when I was in middle school and now I cannot stand books with “bad boys” anymore. Like if the description says anything like “resident bad boy” it’s a no for me love. Bad boy is also the equivalent to a “player” for me, so no

something i hate is in enemies to lovers. don't get me wrong, i love the trope, but there's this one pet peeve i have during the books if the trope is enemies to lovers, they should fall in love toward the very VERY end (like 50 pages left) of the book cause then there's more like pining or sm ig and also the miscommunication trope bc U COULD HAVE JUST TALKED IT OUT LIKE -_-

for good YA contemporary books that have realistic teenager behaviour/banter, i would recommend alice oseman and emma mills since they're young authors you can tell they actually know how young people talk/behave and tbh their books are god-tier

One of the things that I've come to HATE in books since I've grown older and matured in my reading style is... LOVE TRIANGLES. It literally gets me every time. If I see in a book's synopsis that there's a strong love triangle, I most-likely won't even read it (unless it's written by one of my fav authors). I just hate the love triangle so much because it has been overused (not just in books, but in TV SHOWS AND MOVIE TOO!!!!) to a point where I literally RECOIL inwardly on myself at just the mere thought of it. 🤢 Like, I always know who the girl's going to end up with, so it's just painful for me to have to suffer through 300-400 pages of back-and-forth, when I know who she's going to fall for anyway. It's like gurl, move along- I don't have all day to wait for you to pick the man that I always knew was right for you. 💅

lollll same. I feel this on such a deep level. I will literally drop a book if I catch a hint of a love triangle because it is so frustrating and such a waste of plot. Just finished a book with a love triangle that once again convinced me why I will never read anything with that trope again.

The date-chapter titles thing had me dead because I also don't read chapter names💀 . If I even happen to skim the title of a chapter, I legit won't even remember it once I'm past that page. I'll literally get lost in the timeline and have to flip back. Ugh and if the book is also a dual POV, there's even more flipping.

I literally don’t even read chapter titles, it’s not like I avoid it, I just forget to lol. Unless it’s a book with multiple povs and the character’s name is on the chapter page, I forget to look at it.
