It should also be mentioned the Thornberry’s eldest daughter, Debbie, was extremely unhappy with the living situation thrust upon her by her parents, facing the same struggles as actual VanLife teens, including her lack of privacy and lack of social life.

@@twstudios8538 Okay So do you know the Case of Gabby Petitio and how she and her fiancé Brian Laundrie travelled across America in their van in 2021 and then Gabby went missing ? They were travelling through the Grand Tetons and Gabby stopped answering her family’s calls , leading to a large search for her . Her Gabby and her van were missing , but oddly Brian came back to Florida and stayed with his parents even though his fiance was missing.The police were searching hard , and then the Bethune family were driving down a road in the Grand Tetons when they filmed Gabbys abandoned van that was on the side on the road and reported it to the police. Sadly , after searching a bit more the police found Gabbys remains 😞. Brian later went missing and his body was found. It was determined he committed scuicide and after looking in his diary , it was discovered that Brian had killed her by strangling her . Apparently, they were in a domestic violence situation and even though Gabby and Brian posted one video on KZbin and Gabby posted lots of pictures on her Instagram that portrayed that she and Brian were happy and in love , the truth was actually very sad and chilling . One witness claimed they had seen Gabby and Brian arguing in a restaurant and that Gabby had slapped Brian . The police were called regarding a domestic dispute, but they didn’t really do much apart from taking to Brian and Gabby . It’s very unfortunate that Gabby will never get justice. And it’s heartbreaking how she suffered. RIP Gabby 😢❤️

15 yr old here. As a teenager, my privacy is something that I cherish. There is nothing that could ever replace my privacy, like my chats with friends. I don't live in a van or in a small house but I have a decently sized family with a toddler brother, the size of my extended family is akin to 5 times the population in Stowe, USA and it is a flippin miracle that my parents gave me the privacy I need, with or without my extended family. Giving a teenager privacy is a bare minimum that shows that " hey, we trust you and we respect your boundaries". I will forever pray the best for kids that go tbrough with van life parents. I will say that English isnt my first language

The problem is that most parents view their kids as their property. They don't see their kids privacy as something important, they just give them the bare minimum and then they expect their kids to be grateful for it. Abusive parents are one of the worst kind of people. I'm happy to hear that your parents are not like that. You've won the life lottery. I wish you all the best!

As a teen that was homeschooled for 4 years and lived in a trailer. It is hell, your only friends are online and you have no education. I almost had to repeat the 9th grade once I went back to school even after I tried my hardest. Another hard part after going back to school is you barely know how to make friends.
@ControversialOpinionGuy5 ай бұрын
I was homeschooled my entire school life, and while I disagree on the education part, since that's more about whether or not your parents are good at teaching, I can absolutely agree that you get no freinds. made worse in my case since my mom thought everyone online was a pedo.

Homeschooling requires a specific type of parent with certain level of education ability. I had to go to adult education, as I only had grade 9 at the age of 18. School is far from perfect, and I thankfully was well socialized due to sports, religion, and nearby other homeschooling but not so many have the same situation.

It's a shame. There are SO many activities and things for homeschoolers to do where they get to socialize and make friends...if more homeschool parents would be proactive about finding those. This is what I try to do for my kids: co-op, homeschool group events, local community events (we have 2 nature centers nearby that hold classes for homeschoolers), art classes locally at craft stores like Michael's, and so much more
@TMOFApollios5 ай бұрын
@bablabowbablabow3629 resentful? For other reasons, yes, since my family was very religious and I had to unlearn alot of prejudice. Education wise, to be honest, my parents were very hands off and I had an amazing time with my friends as I was more or less left to my own devices. I often stayed at other homeschooling kids houses for multiple days. We were poor, so I started working early on doing odd jobs for neighbour's and church people to get my own money, and since I wasn't in school I had more options. I also had a strong love of reading from a young age so honestly my teenage years were atypical but good. I got to do adult education and I am going onto my masters now. So it can work out, but you will likely have to be self motivated and potentially unlearn things. Good luck with your future, it can be alot of work but it's worth it.

I just wanna say I’ve met the family of nomads. They recently moved to where I have lived my whole life and Addison starting going to my school. We became super close friends and one time after school I went to their house . Addison mom is super strict and her whole life is revolved around social media . Right when I got into the car Addisons sister called her mom freaking out because her brother wouldn’t stop yelling . I got to the house and it was pretty nice but there are a lot of rules and there really isn’t anything to do. Acouple weeks later Addison stopped showing up to school which I was confused about because they still live in the same house . Soon I also realized she stopped showing up in the videos aswell. Addison never did her end of the year tests or anything she just kinda vanished. I think her mom sent her away to another wilderness camp or another mental hospital because she used to do it all the time in the past . I even tried texting Addison and her sister messaged me back from her phone saying “she can’t text right now” and that she didn’t have her phone . Wherever Addison is at right now I hope she’s okay . It makes me so sad her whole family is in Europe right now having so much fun and she wasn’t even able to finish her school year. Maybe somehow she will see this idk but Addison I really miss you and hope you’re doing okay .

Now it's child abuse. Just remember it all depends on how the parents think and what they force their child into.

I’m an adult who lives in 26ft or 28ft camper and let me tell you… I’m tired of it… only been doing it for about a year and I’m beyond disappointed in myself for allowing this to happen. (A serious of unfortunate events and bad decisions led to me living in this camper… and while I’m grateful to have a place to live and not be homeless im just not happy with it and want better) I couldn’t imagine forcing children to live in it as well unless out of necessity but obviously it’s not a necessity for them.

It's nice knowing I can get up and go but I have a job so I have to stay close lol THAT'S how campers are supposed to be used. For single people and MAYBE for couples with no kids. Once you have children, you need to be able to give them space and privacy. Especially as they start becoming teens.

I can relate to the kid posting about his life in an RV. I'm 16 with 9 siblings and we've been traveling in an RV for almost 2 months now. Its horrible. We have to share three sticky beds and our dog has sleep on the stairs to the door (which is a problem for him because when we turn on the generator, the metal stairs heats up). Our mom just vlogs and vlogs and vlogs, constantly taking pictures of us, the scenery, and the food. You may be thinking we should thankful for what we got, as our parents tell us, but no. Its not like that. Its hell. Not that I enjoy traveling all the time, RV or not, but I want to have a social life. And I want to feel like I earned it. I'm currently doing an online college course and its the closest thing I have to having actual curriculum. But I can't do irl studies, such as chemistry, biology, and such, because it requires me to be there. But my siblings are a lot less fortunate. They have to do these stupid outdated books and practice cursive everyday, which has been going on for years now. I wish i could say something about it. but it never works out for me at all. Whenever i do anything to question the situation, I have to do exercise numbering by the hundreds. That also applies to anything else my sibling do wrong, as I am apparently held accountable for it and its all my fault. My mom has been previously accused of domestic abuse on 2 occasions, but the justice system never followed up. My dad is too scared to say anything now because she's basically brainwashed him and controlling him. And he's just about hanging on a thread with his job (he works from home). So yeah, the traveling life isn't as fun as it seems. Edit: I know it sounds very untrue, and I don't really expect many to believe it. But I'm planning to call the police or other services.

This is sad. It’s like people don’t even see their kids as individuals, as people. I have my kid the master with the bathroom and walk in closet, his comfort is my utmost priority !!!! People like this see their kids as accessories and are selfish. Don’t have kids if you don’t want to make the sacrifices it takes to put them first.

I unfortunately know a guy like this. One of my customers has 5 kids and lives in a bus. Everything you would expect. Crazy strict parenting, "school is evil", the kids talk super formal all the time, even the oldest 16 year old has no phone or internet access, etc. He makes me a lot of money, but I know his kids despise him. It's been a hard ethical issue for me for if I should even continue doing work for him.
@Anonymous-ld7je5 ай бұрын
You're not doing anything wrong. They're gonna live this way anyways. If by "doing work" I assume you mean working on his bus, think of it this way... If you refused to do maintenance and renovations on the bus, then those kids might live in even worse conditions. The only thing worse than living in a bus is living in a bus that's falling apart and doesn't even run.
