Sharing this for anyone interested with Acrylics. One can create a home-made stay wet palette with just a flattish plastic box and some wet paper towels. Add freezing paper on the top layer. Once you place the paint on the paper and cover it, the paint will stay moist for days. Serious.

Xiao Hei oh so you can use a spray bottle I prefer using a misting bottle you can use that misting bottle and spoil your canvas and your pants every 1 minute to 2 minutes that usually works for me but I'll try your technique 2

Good idea. The Sta Wet palettes aren't as good as in the years past--mostly, the new red lids bow in the middle and do not stay on like the old blue ones. Seems to be a manufacturing glitch. Really awkward if you're transporting the stupid thing to classes or plein air with a lid sliding around over wet paint. However--they did keep my acrylics damp and usable for almost a month. i think a tupperware set would work just as well, with paper and sponge cut to size, and would be a lot easier to carry.

Thank you so very much for doing this sunset in acrylics because that's the paint I use - sooo happy!!! 😊😊😊 I know how it's been here for quite awhile, but, I'm "fairly new" to viewing your videos here on KZbin. And, I do appreciate ALL your videos you provide for us - oils and acrylics. 😀 Thank you, Mr. Hill, for showing us your talent, and, keeping us encouraged - just yesterday, I had said to myself (when I couldn't get a painting to look right) "What would Kevin *say* in one of his classes if you were there?" Here's what I think: "You're practicing with every Painting you do - don't give up. Just use the techniques you know, and, blend and soften as you can. You can do it." (Just something like that. My husband would say something like that, too.) Well, as a result, I *haven't* given up. So, thank you again for the inspiration and for sharing your videos.

Best stay wet palette for acrylics is the Masterson stay wet palettes which comes with palette paper and a sponge. Your acrylics will stay wet for a week or so. I use a sheet of glass instead of palette paper for easy cleaning.

To blend and get soft edges i like to put the paint on, like white for highlights on the clouds, then use a clean brush that is barely damp to blend the edges.

Really interested to see you working will acrylics, they're my medium of choice ^^ I'm terrified of oils and I guess I "cheat" a little with acrylics. Hey Kevin, have you tried an acrylic retarder? Acts much like linseed oil. Dries much faster than oil paints, but slower than using only the acrylic paint itself. I’d love to see a video of you giving it a try.
@pascale21225 жыл бұрын
Just for people to know acrylic are not supose to be use with more then 40% water or it can create underbinding of the paint you better use a glazing medium like golden slower and glazing medium not sure of the name exactly or to use white as a transparent using zinc white is the best for those effect. So now you know dont get surprise if you use too much water anyway acrylic are mostly transparent color so glazing is easy

Hello Kevin, thats an awesome painting...can i request you to do a video explaining how to mix colours for the same and what colours to use primarily...i have been trying to do dramatic skies and always end up it getting muddy at some point and fail to revive it..since i tend to work on my paintings with glazing and layering methods and i find it really hard sometimes to work with acrylics in that fashion since i cant seem to find that brilliance in colours sometimes...i dont know if i am making sense..but would love to hear your views on how to bring the brightness...once u have made it muddy.

Hi. What I never see in any videos is paint mixing. I don't mean this color and that color I mean making the paint spread so smooth and cover so much canvas between paint dips. Do you dilute your paint first, how wet is your brush? Is your canvas wet? I am not asking about gesso use. Hope you can help me Thanks and keep up the good work

Lissa Laughery Although it is an acrylic, it is very pretty? What's wrong with acrylics? I've been using them for 16 years and I wouldn't change them for anything. You can create a beautiful masterpiece with any medium if you master it.
@lissalaughery53637 жыл бұрын
I have been painting since 1992. I started off with acrylics and although oils are more expensive, I have a better turn out on my paintings. I enjoy oils. And for me, perhaps because they are more vibrant and the color doesn't fade as quickly as acrylics, I do well selling them. Thanks anyway. Happy painting! I mastered acrylics, and I do watercolors and pastels as well. I just started doodling. Fun! :) Yes, his painting is beautiful as are all of his others. I follow him daily and have purchased every DVD and his supplies in quantities. Also the Gamblin 1980 oil paints and the clear gel medium works wonders. Thanks Christian!

I’ve got an odd problem with Acrylic, my light colours tends to darken so much when the dry they almost disappear. I have to remember to use much brighter colours to allow for them darkening, but that makes it difficult to gadge my bright and darks when putting paint on canvas. I use Lots of different makes of paint,

Do you have a complete tutorial, DVD, or something on this painting that shows the complete process? I love this one, and was thinking of it for a background for a hot-air balloon painting my husband wants me to do for his office. But would like a more detailed video of it that doesn't jump forward in the process so much. I looked on your sight but didn't see an option for this painting. I have purchased 3 of your brushes, and love them by the way, and will definitely be getting the rest of the set.

Kevin, this is lovely and breathtaking!!! I tried painting with acrylics before, but I am having difficulty with it because they dry so fast and colors are so hard to blend once they are on canvas. But in this painting, you make it seem so easy. Do you have any tips on how to make acrylics behave like oils, like for doing wet on wet technique and blending colors seamlessly? Or any suggested mediums?

MixedUpMargie so you don't have to worry about covering all the little white grooves in the canvas and so you can place your values easier. If the canvas is white everything you put on it looks darker so it helps with shading and stuff
