I have so much I want to say. There is much more I see than a sunrise swim. The calm water, the boats, the view in the distance, the calmness of the morning before the rest of the world is up and moving. I would have sat there and had a cup of coffee and enjoyed the view. May or may not have gotten in the water. Nice quiet way to start the day.

Well it's all about outlook I think. I've never been to a California beach, heck I've never been to the United States even (something I plan to remedy in the future), but my experience is almost any place becomes one way or another based on your mindset. When I was feeling low my parents once brought me on a trip to a resort in the Mediterranean. I forget if it was Greece or Turkey. I fucking hated it. And I wasn't ungrateful or too spoiled (though there was certainly some of the latter generally), I was just not able to enjoy it due to my mental health being all out of whack.

It has more to do with shocking the body with cold water, it's good for the nervous system. And a certain type of photon is good for the eyes that is only available at sunrise. It doesn't actually matter what you swim in.

@@justin_time I think the commenter's statement maybe a slightly mangled retelling of the idea that sunlight (notably blue light) influences serotonin levels which in turn synchronize your circadian clock. So sunlight early in the morning works to sync your circadian rhythm to the daylight, and hence promotes a healthier sleep schedule. As opposed to seeing a lot of blue-heavy light in the evening (as from computer screens), which tends to retard the circadian cycle, delay sleep, and make one drowsy if forced to awaken at a "normal" time.
