Dude who just randomly died there at the end probably died to the static/move list. Theres a section of the stages memory dedicated to moving triangles and if the game has more moving triangles than it's supposed to in the move list it will cause invisible walls like that.

@@jummy0 And even though both are caused by completely different things, they're both still annoying as hell. By the way, for anyone wondering what causes it in SM64, essentially, ceilings extend upwards as walls until they reach a floor, where they stop. However, due to mistakes in the level geometry, some ceilings never hit a floor even though they're supposed to, which results in an invisible wall that extends to the top of the level.

Well according to another comment by epicwade6346 it was due to every stage having a piece of memory dedicated to moving triangles and if there are more at a particular moment then there are supposed to be according to that part of the memory then for as long as that is the case it will cause the appearance invisible walls.

When you brought up the Z button, degeneracy, and it being banned, I was expecting you to say that if you continuously mash Z, the timer never counts down. Glad I was wrong lol
@MadContendery Жыл бұрын
i remember thinking of a hypothetical glitch like this, where pausing stops the timer, but since the timer didn't go down it resets back to the beginning of the second, so if you keep pausing it never goes down.
@ToaderTheToad Жыл бұрын
@@MadContendery Reminds me of Pikmin 2 There's a Hour:Minute timer displayed on the Ship's Log (save file) screen, showing how much of your life you've spent spamming purple creatures onto other, hostile creatures (AKA playing Pikmin 2) However, it only saves down to the minute, meaning if you play for 59 seconds, save, and then reset to the title screen to clear the playtime timer, it won't count up at all So, if you strategize and spend no longer than ~59 seconds (A little shorter thanks to animations and screen transitions) on a cave floor (Or just in general an area but you can't stop and resume during a day in Pikmin 2 unless you go into a cave), you can pay off the debt with only 1 minute to you and your save file's name (A video going in-depth into this is called "Pikmin 2: Resuming Your Expedition in 0 Minutes (in Theory)")

Man, I was just about to get it back... Honestly there's not much to improve after the timer starts, the double-coin jumps are pretty tight so the only place you can really go wrong without missing a coin altogether is the angle of the jump into the sub coin. But going back to the roots of red button storage, _it's always possible to start closer to the coins..._ (at the cost of 2 whole minutes per attempt (I hate my life (but I deserve it))) Also I've been doing Arle's helipad strat in any% and even 120 for a few years now, it's pretty easy with the right setup! Can't say it hasn't killed a few runs, but I just don't like having to line up for the submarine after the normal strat

It allows you to start the timer "anywhere" rather than where the red button is, so you can basically cut out the journey between the button and getting the first red coin. ("anywhere" as long as you can get to that place from the button without touching the ground, since touching the ground makes the text/timer start)

In (for want of a better expression) real sports where there is a change in the rules or technology they use a "historic records" or sometimes called "best human effort" board where all records are listed against each other and a separate board which only lists the records set with the sanctioned rules/technology. For example a technology dependant sports like cycling has the "hour record" which is the record for how far someone can cycle in an hour. This lead to bicycles being developed with bizarre sitting positions to maximise distance time rather than being something you would actually cycle with and eventually lead to being banned making Chris Boardman's 1996 record "best human effort" whereas the cycling governing body UCI made the official "UCI hour record" under their ruleset which was less distance than Boardman's record until very recently when Filippo Ganna beat it using UCI rules becoming the best human effort as well. So a possibility is that you have an "unlimited" record page where people are allowed to do whatever they want and a "sanctioned rules" page but given how ad hoc speedrunning communities can be I realise how people might not care about having officially mandated rules and just run the unlimited run anyway.
