I have never seen another musician that can so effectively depict the ordeal of learning to love oneself. What beautiful words to sum up the eternal struggle of reconciling the darkness and light in us. This man writes the perfect words to go with the perfect music.

Same. I briefly met him once in the late 80’s. Like for seconds I was a teenager and I didn’t actually talk to him. I didn’t really meet him. It was more of a brush with a hot long haired singer at a show. But I love him as an artist. It’s actually painful even 7 years later.

Had the absolute pleasure of meeting him when he played the Schubert theater in New Haven Connecticut spent about 15 minutes with him backstage I have never been around a more chill person so laid-back so soft-spoken so kind so accommodating, but I just got a vibe of a simmer inside of him that it was inexplicable at the time. he took a picture with us. He shook our hands. He gave a shout out to my son during the concert mentioned his name and said a few words to my son, so you know he was touched by the experience I’m sure, not nearly as much as we were, but for sure it’s a moment in my life I’ll never forget.

Once in a life time a musician comes around, and his art touches your soul. You relate to his words, his lyrics and he has an angelic voice. You purchase tickets to a show, and celebrate such a moment. This song has been with me for over 20 years, and I still go to it. This morning looking at the news, I learned that for some reason he was needed at another place. I will continue to play his art celebrating his gift.. We are here and it is all temporary my friends, try to enjoy it. RIP Mr. Chris Cornell.

Couldn't have said it better. I rarely mourn a celebrity death, but I have always loved and appreciated his strong vocals. I still remember the first time I heard Chris and exactly where I was in 1992. His music is real. Not bogus like so much of the garbage we are fed today. MaryGirl Moody That's beautiful. Thank you for sharing your story. I'm so sorry for your loss. Losing a sibling is so very hard. I wanted to share this with you... I was walking home from work a few months after CC died, and 'Sunshower' had just finished playing in my earbuds, when this beautiful summer sky -- full of bright sunshine -- suddenly started to mist, them rain very lightly, sun still beaming down the whole time. I was almost home, and the few minutes it kept up took me right to my front door, where it slowed and stopped within a matter of seconds. I looked up, smiled through tears, and was like, "Okay, thank you yet again, Chris, for making me feel. And showing me 'its alright'". It was a rough time in my life and I needed that experience right at that moment. It was great. 🌦

This song is so great to me because it's both depressing and inspiring. How can you truly measure love if you haven't experienced pain? Have you ever "found your way and watched it disappear?" Who hasn't felt like a" forgotten grave" at least once in their life? Who hasn't felt like "your graces will someday flower," but it hasn't happened yet? Does it mean it won't, that you don't expect it to, that it shouldn't? The good-selfless acts we do for people; how we forgive people for things they probably shouldn't be forgiven for. Sacrifice is what makes us better human beings. You don't do good things because you have to be rewarded for doing them, you do them because it's the right thing to do and it's nice to think something good happens from it. All of those things in a single song...now that's amazing.

His death really hit me hard. Yesterday I received a letter that I didn't get selected for a job I was "a sure thing for." I worked with many of the coworkers before, but was in the hiring process of another place that paid twice as much and was maybe 15 minutes from my house. I was told "I had the job," was even shown around, was told I'd have to wait until the 20th, then yesterday I got the letter saying I didn't get the position because it went to someone I knew and was a terrible employee at a prior employer simply because he lived there and my application as more "flexible" for future employment. I'm out of a job, burned the bridge I had with the other one, I got home only to practically grovel to my brother for a temp job, who then proceeded to lecture me about how I shouldn't have turned down the other job in the "false reality" that loyalty exists amongst companies. There are a handful of songs I listen to when I'm really down. I went to play it and saw that he committed suicide. I have been on that edge so many times in my past and it always saddens me to hear anyone feel like that's their only option. If you visit my FB page I changed my cover photo as a tribute to Chris Cornell from two images from another band I listen to when I'm going through things; Black Label Society, "Angel of Mercy."

Yeah, no problem. I"m glad that it helps someone else out. I don't care what people say, I think it would be hard pressed to think all of us haven't had that mindset at least once in our lives. I just hope that when people are in this bad of a mindset that they reach out to someone, anyone. I knew someone at a police academy that was pretty significant (rank wise). The guy was a bad ass all around. He used to spar 30 minute rounds. Set his own broken nose on the matts once, broke 3 ribs sparring and kept fighting...that kind of guy. Jiujitsu fighter, trained with Royce Graci, owns his own gym, all of that and one time he talked about how he had a gun to his own head ready to do it because his body wasn't what it used to be and he felt he was losing all that was important to him. It wasn't about vanity, to him it was about losing his ability to fight and it was a core principal to him. He later told me; if he couldn't live with the ability to have his core principles, life wasn't worth living anymore. He said, in that last second, he thought, what if this is because of some stupid vitamin deficiency or something as simple as that? He decided not to do it, saw a doctor and it turned out to be exactly that. He could kick my ass any day of the week, but was always an inspiration to me because as much as he loves to fight, he's about the most passive person I've ever met. I trained at his gym and he inspired and changed me to be a different person in so many ways that I'll never be able to repay that kindness, in any way other than to share how his story inspired me not to give up. His story resonated with me... a lot. I think what moved me the most about it is that you can have someone who by all accounts is a hero, a fighter, fears practically nothing, and even they can get that low in their lives. I thought it was a truly empowering thing for him to even discuss. People are so stigmatized to even admit they've had thoughts like that, but I believe if discussing those thoughts can help save someone else's life and if you have to humble yourself to do it, then it's absolutely worth doing.

I love the echoing sound of this in the movie. Top 3 of male vocalists ever as far as I'm concerned. Cheers to all who use this jam to get through tough times, self inflicted or otherwise, know you're loved and hard work produces great results internally and externally. See you again MR Chris Cornell. May we all rest easy in paradise ✌️

My Mom went into hospice today. My only way of relating is to tag music to feelings, and I didn't have any feeling at all until I listened to this song again strangely, on the day he died. She and I never had a good relationship. She wasn't a monster, but she wasn't a saint. Mostly, she just wasn't a very good parent. She'll always be my Mom, but there will always be an adversarial feeling. Mostly, I just hope my Dad will be OK. This was also the song that I used when I made Lizzie's (My dog whose death changed my life) tribute 8 years ago. Mom loved Lizzie, but then again, everyone did. It will always have meaning to me, and now I guess it holds true to the saddest song I'll ever know. Even though you're still technically alive, I know it's only a matter of days. Go in peace, Mom. RIP Chris. RIP Lizzie.

I'm in high school and I hear the modern early 2000 "rock bands" and I wish I was born in the 70s because I want to experience all this I listen to old school music and I think it's amazing and makes me warm inside. I love Chris cornell he's just amazing I love grunge music. who else agrees?
@jaykaay93468 жыл бұрын
brokko, Actually there is a huge resurgence in TRUE 70's /grunge/ hard rock. It's mainly classified as Stoner rock or in your case, google desert rock. Chris is his own animal (just seen him in Oakland, Unreal sound quality) but try these bands: YOU MUST check out Kyuss or anything John Garcia did vocals on. My favorite for six years ,however is GRAVEYARD (sweden) Go in reverse order LPs if you want mellower stuff, first, I prefer 1st-last though. Ive listened,written zines, ran a distro, etc for 30+ years. This is your answer. Others are Dozer, Witchcraft, the Graviators (all sweden), Freedom Hawk , Orchid, Lowrider, UNCLE ACID AND THE DEADBEATS (godly)..too many but these are heavy hitters

I find this video and lyrics to be the most humbling and most moving to this day for so many friends and family and love lost...it speaks volumes to me on so many levels...and I can't help myself...I break down and tears befall my bewildered mind as I feel my anguish slowly drip off my cheeks...while in silence I search in desperation for some form of solace...dare I say peace? I'm forever grateful...to you...for giving me strength in times of utter desperation and hopelessness...we have from what I understand so many things in common...my heart ...my bewildered thoughts and prayers...go out to you..your family...and those who may read this in these unsettling times...this remains one of the things in life I find...to keep me forever grateful to God...for the beautiful things we still have in our lives...but the sheer pain...of what we've all lost...

All these threads I'm reading are bringing me to tears! I'm 48 been a fan of grunge when they were still punk, Chris Cornell was the end of a era, we most likely will never see again in our life time. Mother Love Bone, Mad Season, AIC, Temple of the Dog, even Pearl Jam and Foo Fighters, Audio Slave (even tho they aren't quite the same as) gave me strength to leave a totally abusive husband, raising 3 children on my own, the loss of my brother to a heroine overdose, my own dark times dealing with addictions and rehab. the loss of my Mother. They continue to get me by. For all the young people who are into this music, how ever you got here, someone did you a solid by introducing you. I hope more young musicians will be inspired by these Amazing Voices and Lyrical Genius to somehow keep this alive. Although their endings were tragic, yours doesn't have to be, we're not alone in this struggle, there is so much to be taken away from sharing our own personal pain. You can tell from reading the comments associated with the artist here and on many other sites, these artists touched a WIDE range of people, for many different reasons. Keep sharing, pay it forward so other people/generations can get what they need out of it as well. We're all survivors here and have much to be thankful for..Believe that..

This is my favorite song, not only because of Chris's godly voice or the uplifting lyrics that give hope in the darkest times but because it's one of the few musically perfect songs out there. Every aspect of it is 10/10, there's not a thing that I'd change about it. Just remember, no matter how down you are, "it's alright."
