Sunsynk Power Card

If you are using a Sunsynk or E-Linter Dongle, this is the video for you. It is a follow up on my Sunsynk integration video and explains the installation of the Power Card.

@@SolarIntegrations I'll go and have a look round your forums tonight, but do you know of any easy way of determining if we have surplus solar? My system is 12kw but doesn't feed back to the grid. The inverter will therefore produce the maximum power the house demands. i.e. the house may need 3kw, the inverter will supply 3kw but is capable of a lot more depending on the sun that day. i'd like to automate my heat pumps to switch on etc when surplus energy is available.

Another great vid that is easy to follow! 2 comments: 1 - I got briefly stuck on trying to import the yaml configuration as you didn't mention where that came from... so note to others: you can find a link to that in the video description. 2 - The voice clarity is much worse on this vid, but it's probably a mic setting that changed for future ref ;-)

Thanks for great content and SA specific context. I found that I had to do a number of adjustments to the entities to make certain elements work on the card. However, I don't seem to be able to make the Autarky element show on the card. Can you point me in the correct direction in terms of which entities are used?

Hi @gkj7762, it really depends which integration you are using to get the data from your inverter as the names of the entities they create are sometime different depending on the integration. You can find the integration names by going to Developer tools/states in Home Assistant and looking the names up there. Alternatively you can go to the integrations and see what the names are of the entities they are generating there. These obviously need to be the same as in the card or it will not work. if you get stuck, the best place to ask for help is on the Powerforum.co.za and just do a search for the Sunsynk Power card thread. Slipx06 watches it and I am sure will give you a hand :-)

Hi, when I try to enter a card and I copy in the 'type: custom:sunsynk-power-flow-card' , I get an error message: "Custom element doesn't exist: sunsynk-power-flow-card." I think I have followed your installation instructions thoroughly - any idea what I have done wrong? Thanks, Ken

Hi Ken, sounds like Home Assistant is not seeing the Sunsynk-Power-Flow-Card for some reason. I am assuming that you completed the installation of the card using HACS as shown in the video. Have you tried rebooting the system? Does it see the card as installed in HACS/frontend? If you can't get it to work I would uninstall and then install again from HACS and see if it comes right.

Hello, Adding the card and getting the below error. I am using the Region 2 setting for the inverter if that makes any difference Please include the day_battery_charge_70 and day_battery_discharge_71 attributes and entity IDs I can see the two entities on the system and when I click on them I get this - This entity ('sensor.sunsynk_battery_daily_charge_70') does not have a unique ID, therefore its settings cannot be managed from the UI.

It sounds like you are using the sunsynk integration and will need to change the names of the entities being used in the card. Best to check on the powerforum.co.za thread on the power cards, can remember offhand what the entities names are changed to in the sunsynk integration but am sure someone will be able to help you there.

This might be a daft question , but does the "daily solar" measure the kWh produced by the panels or the pv production used by the home ?

I've followed the tutorial to get the data from Sunsnk Cloud, but for some reason most of the elements of this card aren't populated. For example battery voltage, battery current, inverter current, inverter power. If I take a look at the Sunsynk sensor card the values seem to be populated, for example Sunsynk Battery Voltage 183 = 53.2. Anyone else had this issue? I'm not sure what I did wrong. UPDATE: I figured out that I had to check my configuration.yaml for the sensor names provided in there. I then updated the config accordingly. For example sunsynk_battery_current was sunsynk_battery_current_191. Updating these meant the values were displayed correctly.

Glad to hear you got sorted @pushmetothefloor. You are 100% correct, Slipx's Dashboard is built for the ESP32 integration entity names. The entity names in the Sunsynk and Solarman integrations are different so you need to either change the entity name in the card or change the name of the entity so that they match up.

Thank you for the great tutorial If done everything, step by step, numerous times. I event went so far to wipe off everything and startimg over, but I still get the error "Custom element doesn't exist: sunsynk-power-flow-card". Where do I start, how do I get past this error. I habe troef other people's tutorials as well but nothing.

Hi @hardusnieuwoudt1164 That sounds like a HACS error, are you sure that you have the card installed correctly in HACS?

Great Tutorial. I have the 16kW Sunsynk Inverter. It has 3 MPPTs. It seems that the card cannot be setup for 3 MPPTs. I cannot find sensor.sunsynk_pv3 under the developer tools sensors. Is there any way to add a 3rd MPPT?

Hi @hugosteyn4129, the integration by default only query 2 mppt's, there are however registers in the modbus register that can be queried to get the values from MPPT3 & 4 if required. Which integration are you using?

Hi. I have the Sunsynk dongle connected to the Inverter and I am using Gary Waterworth's integration. I am region 1. In the Template file I saw only see PV1 and PV2. To try and solve it I made a PV3 entry (copy of PV2 entry) in configuration.yaml file (but no luck).

Hi @robertcoetzee1705 you are definitely able to. You will need to create a second card power flow card for the 2nd inverter and put the entity values for your second inverter in it. I hope that makes sense?

Hello when I copy the "configuration.yaml addition" into the configuration.yaml then I get the error message: bad indentation of a mapping entry (31:3) 28 | ####pv4_v_115: none 29 | ####pv4_i_116: none 30 | 31 | - sensor: --------^ 32 | - name: "Sunsynk Daily PV 108" 33 | state: > Can someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Your indenting of the lines in the YAML file is not correct. Try pasting your YAML file into www.yamllint.com/ and it will tell you where the problem is and you can fix it there. Is a bit easier than trying to work it out in ESPhome

Later late in the evening I added "template:" without "" in the top line and it worked. I have no idea why because it shouldn't but it's going well. Sry, I'm a noob and can't explain it better.

Hi Neil, I have actually done a video on insyalling an ESP32 with RS485 for real time (pretty much) reading of sensor value's. It has the added bonus of being able to write settings back to the inverter. Check out the channel and make sure you are subscribed :-)
